Five Guys Burgers and Fries topped a new survey of favorite burger chains, leaving bigger chains such as McDonald’s and Burger King in the dust.

Market Force Information questioned 7,600 consumers, calculated the fan favorite based on total votes and then factored in the number of locations for each chain.

In every region, Five Guys led the list. Overall, In-N-Out was second, followed by Fuddruckers, A&W and Smashburger.

Dairy Queen ranked last in the group of 16 chains considered. Burger King, Hardee’s, McDonald’s and Jack in the Box rounded out the bottom five.

Five Guys ranked best in categories including food quality and taste, service, cleanliness and atmosphere. The only category in which it failed to rank No. 1 was best overall value; In-N-Out won that category.

Smashburger, a newcomer in the so-called better burger industry, ranked second in every category except overall value.

McDonald’s and Hardee’s shared the bottom rankings for overall value. Jack in the Box was last in the food quality and cleanliness categories. Hardee’s was deemed to have the worst service, while Dairy Queen’s atmosphere was voted as the most lacking.

“Five Guys does zero advertising, but by delivering consistently great customer experience, they’re able to build a word-of-mouth buzz that continues to bring new customers through the door,” said Market Force Chief Marketing Officer Janet Eden-Harris in a statement.

In another customer survey this summer, McDonald’s came in last for customer satisfaction. The American Consumer Satisfaction Index found pizza chain Papa John’s the most fulfilling, followed by Subway and Little Caesars.

Burger King and KFC also left patrons wanting more, according to the survey.

Burgers, fries and peanuts in the shell while you wait. What's not to like?

You forgot any and all toppings at no extra charge. Plus the bonus fries just thrown in the bag if you ordered fries.

We don't have Five Guys around here. Give me a plain flat regular cheeseburger at McDonalds.

Never heard of the place

The fries are fresh cut and the burgers are fresh ground beef not frozen paddies. The beef is very lean to the point of being a bit dry. I think the place is a bit expensive for a burger joint. I have not been in one for some years but the ones I were in I was disappointed with the cleanliness so much so I called their corporate .

This is a growth chart, obviously. 5 Guys is about 1/50th the size of McDonald's so as 5 Guys continues to expand it will have huge growth rates percentage-wise in the number of franchises and revenues.

But the chart should be inverted for the real "Top".

In BDSM terms 5 Guys is a bottom but wants to become a top.

5 guys & a heart attack. we have them and its okay. I like their fries but something I would only eat one maybe twice a year. empty calories...if I'm going to be bad, give me chocolate

still good for those guys for building that company up. I think the "owners" are serial entrepreneurs?

It doesn't say its a growth chart...way too much information missing there for it to be of any use....pffft

ps...wtf is a whataburger:rolleyes:

It's a preference chart, I believe. Nothing to do with growth or size.

There's no comparison, except on price, but one 5Guys cheeseburger is worth a a half dozen McDonald's cheeseburgers.

A Southern hamburger chain. Started in Corpus Christi, Texas over 60 years ago.

Never seen that problem in my local one. Doesn't mean your's isn't dirty.

The only American chains we have here are BK and McD. Seems our assessment of BK as "slightly less bad" is agreed upon.

Not that I can't get a good burger mind you. But every franchise in these parta does indeed suck.

I'm not a fan of chain store burgers. The White Spot, Tommy's Burger Stop, the Arctic Roadrunner, the Long Branch, etc. are all great local places to get a burger if a burger is what I want.

Where are you located?? Hurry, I want to buy that franchise. Five Guys sold out their US franchise rights, amazing....

I dont think they're serial entrepreneurs, just a guy who opened up a burger stand in northern va.. Somehow it caught on and he expanded quickly.

Five guys is great. The best part about the last job I had in DC was not the benefits, it was the fact that there was a Five Guys franchise in our building. They're opening up a franchise around here in a few months.
