Oh, it started off so well but then went really weird at the end. The author, Theodore Dalrymple is a rather waspish ex-doctor and I am afraid ambitiously mediocre. As for myself I am quite happy to be mediocre without vaunting ambition. It is surprising how much you can get done, quietly whilst the ambitious are ripping each others throats out.
