300-character story excerpt?

When you edit a story's title/subtitle page, there's space for a 300-character excerpt.

Presumably this is the short passage that shows up (randomly? periodically? for new stories?) on the Chyoo home page.

Usually the excerpt on the home page seems to be in German.

Is the excerpt used any other way? Seen one for a story you recognize?

Usually the excerpt on the home page seems to be in German.

I think that it is only updated when Chyoo is updated. ie when new stories are added. The German quote has been there since Chyoo last updated on 24th September (I think). Before that it was something else.

Haven't seen any other use of the quote. A random one that change automatically every day / hour / whatever would be better IMHO.
