30 Poems in 30 Days (Redux)

2-21 Captured in Stone

Picked by hands, with primitive tools,
Clever in conception, and chimeric when viewed,
Hidden from millennia in the Holy Land's dust,
It shows how love is a constant, or sex, or lust.

The hands that made you, lived a life that was tough,
Yet time was found to carve you, from out of the rough.
Amongst great treasures, you're now on display,
And for what you tell us about us, visible you must stay.

inspired by this.

2-22 Toxophilite

Arrows fly from recurve bows,
Fletchings swoosh through still air,
Thumping the boss.

2-25 Mothersday2014.jpg

In the nighttime gloom
Cream petals catch yellow light
The red teak floor
Forms a rich backdrop
As net curtains sway
In the evening breeze

Captured in time
This scene, frozen and shared
By one who knows it too well
With one who has not
Nor ever will
Witnessed it at first hand.

2-1 : Dust bunny

Dust Bunny

The entire thing rests,
Lifeless, quivering under
Each inhale,exhale,
Cells, strands of hair, your eyelash
Nail trimmings, saliva. All of it.
Silent scatterings
Clues and evidence
Gathered into a weightless mound
I am reluctant somehow, to throw away.

2-2 Kinshasa

Kinshasa

mkossa machine gunned words
camouflage shorts, weapons
balanced on tight hips
oil drum muscles ripped from shoulder,
back a sinuous river swelling, and
thick veined branches
clutching machetes

Here Cassius Clay consecrated Ali
pouring palm wine onto greedy earth
everything spoken in Congo river gurgling
over wet rocks and discarded tin cans
up and down
and up again
Kwasa, Kwasa

In neighborhoods of
rusted zinc held down with stones
young girls pop moves in the street
before the clouds burst
and their bare feet sink into
red earth.

2-3 Le Belge

Le Belge

sweat plastered red hairs
curling, unnaturally strident
Manifestations escaping
Collared bull shoulders
Hunched, brute concentrate
Ready to hump a black cow

But today preferring
Perfect Pomme frites, laid
On flemish porcelain
Fat fingers lubed with mayonnaise

Parce que ,ma pouce,
Pere Leopold did not
Intend for Congo
to be released by moutarde
Sans parler du Ketchup.

2-4 Chairman

Chairman

Used to be, chairs were metal
Made in factories
the bosses were white, yes
But there was work
you could sit
Solid, paid under
A mango tree, or on gravel
Waiting for expat catcats to purr
Gasoline fumes into your peanuts
You could sit solid.

Then the plastic chairs came
an army of wedding guests
Lining salons, on closed off streets
stacked in village warehouses
Cracked and dirty white.

You can still sit
But not solid.

2-5 Basket it all

Jump shots on a mottled lizard court
identical razor cut Asia-fros
foreign game, foreign country
away from the staring
fat mango silence
ready to fall splat

Its our country, our money

Hey, Bruce lee; steal any rare earth today?
How's your wife, sitting behind the store counter
Peddling plastic trinkets and bug spray?
How's the stadium coming along?
Give me $50, it's the weekend

whoosh.

2-6 Good morning world

Over my latte
I checked
My 500 friends

They seem
Stressed.

So let me share this:

To give hope
A YouTube

dog and cat,
Sworn enemies
Introduced

What happened next
Took my breath away
And will amaze you

4-1 Curmudgeon

"Can I give you a hug?"

He looked her over, again,
and his jaded eyes took in
more than her vivaciousness
and the way those endless
curves appealed to him in
ways nothing else seemed
to these days, A long "Hmmf"
of a sigh slipped through his
closed lips and mouth as he
pondered whether she could
or not.

She smiled while she waited,
all twinkling dimples and sparkling
eyes, shoulders back and arms open,
displaying her bosom more than
usual, and snickered a bit at the pause
she'd given him as he worked through
an answer.

He finally took in a deep breath, released
another sigh, as he felt himself betraying
his idols--shrunken hearted Grinch,
pre-visitation Scrooge, Grue before those
children came along.

Kids tended to screw up everything, after all.

She saw him nod and roll his eyes as his
arms opened for her. Laughter filled the room
as she clasped herself about him and within
his embrace in return.

"Don't tell anyone, got it? Ever."
