It is important to have the etiquette sorted out before you go any further than just talking about it.

When you have a set of ground rules worked out, that you all agree on, you will have a good basic understanding of what is expected and wanted by all sides.

Of course that is only going to affect you if you care at all about the other 2 sides of the triangle.

Totally agree..you have to have the rules up front especially if there is a couple there with an ongoing relationship..
