Trump threatens freedom of the press in leaks crackdown

Satirists have repeatedly drawn on the similarities between President Donald Trump and Middle Eastern and African dictators, for installing his family in senior advisory positions in the White House as much as his excessive self-regard and his respect for military tough men. Now critics can tick off another point on the autocrat checklist following Attorney General Jeff Sessions's announcement Friday of a new crackdown on leakers that will include a Justice Department (DOJ) review of policies governing how the department deals with media outlets that publish leaked information.

Trump allies accused a “deep state” of security officials of orchestrating the leaks in a bid to unseat the president. Trump has railed against leakers, and placed Sessions under pressure to prosecute more of those who disclose classified information. He has also attacked what he has called the “fake news” media for publishing “illegal leaks.”

In an escalation of the administration's campaign against what it claims are hostile branches of the media, Sessions announced that part of the focus of the new anti-leakers crackdown would be the press.

It is not the only way the Trump has threatened to muzzle the press, pledging on the campaign trail to open up libel laws to make it easier to sue publications. Former chief of staff Reince Priebus and press secretary Sean Spicer have also indicated the administration was investigating ways to review the First Amendment laws protecting press freedom.

And so begins the 29th Weak of the Trumpanzy with an assault on the Bill of Rights!

Write your Congress Critters, this shall not stand! Fuck Trump and his evil elf!

Trump impressed by Stephen Miller’s ‘Rainman’ skills and may have him replace Scaramucci

Citing multiple “top Trump sources,” Mike Allen reports that White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller is under consideration to be the communications director.

The position has been vacant since Anthony Scaramucci melted down and was ousted just 10 days in. Sean Spicer held the position twice and Mike Dubke once.

Miller “has a ‘Rainman’ ability to recall immigration statistics,” Allen noted.

Allen also reports that Trump “dug the performances” of Miller on TV.

On Wednesday, Miller had a shouting match with CNN’s senior White House correspondent, Jim Acosta. Miller claimed the Statue of Liberty wasn’t about immigration.

“Steve Bannon likes the idea of Miller for the job, and Miller was the hero of the West Wing after he attacked Acosta as a ‘cosmopolitan’ for his views on immigration,” Allen reported. “When Miller finished that press briefing, his colleagues high-fived him, according to Sebastian Gorka, a national-security aide who’s a favorite of the president’s for his over-the-top TV hits.”

Trumpanzy picks the "best people?" Another Dick pic?

The statue of liberty is not about immigration???

Where do they get these people?

Academic and/or political success is never a measure of intelligence.

Mueller team zeroes in on Trump financial crimes because they’re faster to prosecute: CNN

CNN political reporter Pamela Brown said on Saturday that new details have emerged in Special Counsel Bob Mueller’s investigation of President Donald Trump and his connections to the Russian government as well as individuals in that country’s criminal underworld.

“Investigators are delving into financial crimes including some unconnected to the election,” said Brown. “Investigators have combed through the list of shell companies and buyers of Trump-branded real estate properties. They’ve scrutinized the roster of tenants at Trump Tower in Manhattan — reaching back several years.”

Brown said that investigators are zeroing in on financial crimes because they present “a more concrete path to prosecution.”

She also said that “even investigative leads that are not connected to Russia but involve Trump associates are being referred to the special counsel to encourage subjects of the investigation to cooperate.”

I wonder if they will also look at who got money from the Russians other than Trump. Mitch got a whole bunch of Rubles from the Russian Oligarchs, Miss Lyndsey and McCain too! Bob could wipe the Rethuglicans out if he presses the law fairly.

I drank the kool-aide at the acid tests in the 60's.

I bothered not with kool-ade, and went straight to sugar cubes and blotter paper. The trails, man! But I didn't hallucinate. The effects were more like visual intensification (I saw all the details from far away) and cross-sensory pattern recognition (that poppy looks like a G-major chord). I mostly learned guitar whilst tripping. Does it show? [/me shreds a few licks] Oh wow baby, that flatpick is awesome...

White House Tries To Shut Down Speculation That Mike Pence Is Preparing For 2020 Run

:D

A spokesman for Vice President Mike Pence on Saturday downplayed speculation that the veep is preparing for a 2020 presidential campaign in case President Donald Trump doesn’t seek re-election.

The speculation began in earnest after The New York Times published a story detailing how Pence has engaged in more political activity than vice presidents typically do: He has has created his own political fundraising committee and has hosted Republican donors and activists at his residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington.

Pence advisers have also indicated to party donors that the vice president has plans to run if Trump does not, the Times reported.

Or is he preparing for Trumps removal? Bob or the 25th?

In Afghan review, Trump’s frustration carries echoes of Obama years

Since taking office, U.S. President Donald Trump has shown an affinity, and perhaps even a deference, to the generals he has surrounded himself with in his Cabinet and at the White House, save one exception: the war in Afghanistan.

More than a dozen interviews with current and former U.S. officials familiar with the discussions reveal a president deeply frustrated with the lack of options to win the 16-year-old war, described internally as “an eroding stalemate.”

The debate carries echoes of the same dilemma Barack Obama faced in 2009. Then, as now, odds are that Trump will ultimately send more troops, current and former officials say.

“It’s the least worst option,” one former U.S. official familiar with the discussions said, speaking on condition of anonymity, while acknowledging that with Trump, a pullout cannot be completely ruled out.

Bring the troops home and put them on patrol at Ft. Bliss. 16 years and "A Trillion Dollars" is enough!

But if we don't have our war on, big military budgets won't be needed! The Pentagon and lots of contractors would have to cut back. Bad for the economy. No, we need our useless, endless wars. Just ask any armaments executive.

Even Republicans think they’re losing under Trump

(Don't bitch Box, it's a Newsweek story.)

Donald Trump once vowed that the country would win so much under his presidency that they would be tired of winning. Yet, more than six months into his time in the White House, even his own party thinks they're losing.

More Republicans (46 percent) believe they are losing than winning (42 percent), according to a poll from the Pew Research Center published Friday based on a survey conducted between June 8 and June 18.

“I think there’s a level of frustration,” Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) told The Washington Post. “It’s more like a football team that knows that it can be good but is fumbling and committing too many boneheaded errors.”

A team that thinks it can score but it's quarterback can't put his helmet on the right way. Pro tip, the face guard on the front! Donald.

‘He’s less orange than I expected’: Trump stuns guests at his NJ golf club after he crashes another wedding

Move over Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.

President Donald Trump used the first of his 17-day getaway vacation to crash a wedding being hosted at National Golf Club in Bedminster, NJ.

According to the DailyMail, shocked guests raced to their social media accounts to share photos and videos of Trump hopping out of his golf cart and searching for the bride and groom to offer congratulations.

One particular guest had a starting revelation, noting the president was ‘less orange than expected.’

Earlier in the day, he tweeted the time away from the White House will be filled with meetings and calls, suggesting its not a real vacation.
:)

--And much fatter

He can be less orange from day to day because, if people haven't noticed, his hairstylist has been jumping back and forth in trying various shades of orange and gray--on almost a daily basis. The gray seems to work best.

Are all guests pre-vetted by the Secret Service when he's on the grounds? If not, isn't that a major security hole? Assassins with innocent-looking weapons could infiltrate all Tromp resorts on the good chance he'll pop-up like a whackable orange-ish mole.

OTOH who would bother assassinating him? He'll do enough damage if left in place.

Oh, now, why'ed you have to go and leak those plans?

Maxine Waters: Trump is the one who should be watching his back around Mike Pence

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) said on Saturday that she isn’t particularly concerned about Vice President Mike Pence’s rumored designs on the White House, President Donald Trump, however, should be watching his back, the Hill said.

In a conversation with Joy Reid, Waters — who has been vocal in her belief that Trump should be removed from office — said that rumors are swirling on Capitol Hill that Pence is waiting in the wings to take over when Trump is removed from office.

The dismissals of longtime Republican National Committee (RNC) stalwarts Sean Spicer and Reince Priebus from the White House has fueled speculation that establishment Republicans are preparing to rein in Trump.

Last Sunday, Waters tweeted that Pence is practically measuring curtains for the Oval Office.

Could it be that the Rethuglicans are planning a regime change?
