25 random things...

Thanks for the link Sir_Winston, but not having learned how is ok by me. I have a problem with my fingers constantly being injured, & cramping, as it is, so, better that I don't attempt to learn at this point. :rose:
Wiki is such a wonderful thing... here is a Wikihow set of instructions how to snap your fingers, including a 3.5 minute video of a guy explaining and showing how to do it.

Good to know. Some chick vamping it up would have just pissed me off.

Erm, you mean because it would just be a big tease? I don't get it. I really wouldn't have known how to "vamp" it up at that point in my life, and I can't imagine that anyone was pissed off by a bunch of skits.

The women who taught us actually struck just the right tone, in my mind. They weren't like car show models or porn stars jerking off a banana. They were really funny and direct and accessible. Very matter of fact. And our show was kind of similar. We used humor to make the topic of safer sex less taboo, and also provide information about how AIDS and other STDs (now called STIs, apparently) are transmitted, prevention and where to get condoms, STD testing done, etc. I thought the whole thing was a great experience, and something that everyone in the school enjoyed because it was informative but also damn funny and entertaining.

what? no hug with the ?

ps - what ever happened to X's and O's? In a few years no one will remember signing a love letter

My husband and I used to use xoxo in emails a lot... now we use <3

My email doesn't have little smilies so rarely use any :emotes:

1) I have an addiction to books. Any and every kind.

2) I’ve taken care of my mother since I was 13 and she was diagnosed with manic depression. I still take care of her. Some days, although I would never admit it in the real world, it is physically tiring and can be pretty soul destroying for me.

3) There are only 3 times I’ve felt completely and utterly at peace – once driving out to the lake at 3.30am in the morning dressing in my oldest pjs, my slippers and a blanket, and watching the sun rise. The second driving down a highway in Texas, the top down, the sun beating on my face, my bare feet up on the dashboard, singing my head off to old tunes. And third, looking up at the Coliseum sipping a take away espresso and just knowing that was exactly where I was supposed to be at that exact moment.

4) I left high school a year early because I hated it. I never went to class or had a private tutor and taught myself for a year.

5) I am a qualified nurse.

6) I’m a published author with four books in print and one short story in a popular UK women’s magazine.

7) I’m kinky and I love vintage lingerie and clothing even though I can’t afford it.

8) Most of my friends are many years older than me – apart from my best friend who is younger by a year.

9) When I was around seven/eight my parents were approached by a modelling scout who wanted me to be the next face of a big child makeup line that ran for Avon back in the 1980s. My mother refused. There endeth my modelling career.

10) I was born out of wedlock and have never been christened in any faith. Shock horror!

11) I do not subscribe to any religion, yet I believe in a higher power the guides us all. I also believe in vampires, werewolves, faeries and things that go bump in the night.

12) I can be very opinionated, judgemental, quick to anger and slow to trust.

13) I love cross stitching. It’s one of my guilt pleasures. The rhythmic up and down calms my mind.

14) I'm a history geek. I have a passion for terrorism and politics. Terrorism specifically. Counter-terrorism to be precise.

15) I have an affinity with cities such as New York and Rome . Both make me feel content.

16) I took a class at university in which I was the only girl. When split into teams, the leader of the opposite team publically berated me because I was a woman…and what does a woman know about war…he was extremely harsh and physical to the point I thought he was going to slap me. I came top of the class. He came second. What does a woman know indeed…

17) I’m terribly competitive.

18) I’m highly organized to the point of OCD. Plans and efficiency keep me calm.

19) When I love, I love completely and fiercely. Sometimes it can be overwhelming and smothering to the other person.

20) I could happily spend my days working with books and be content for the rest of my life. Everything from the paper, to the binding, to the typeset fascinates me.

21) I adore classical music.

22) I didn’t have sex for the first time until I was 22.

23) I’m a hopeless romantic.

24) I’m addicted to tv shows like Supernatural.

25) Not many people know I’m submissive. They all believe I’m a Dominant.

Hmm, who to nominate who hasn't already done it...

Kaykat, Wicked Doll...

Pretty much, yes.

What is the significance of less than three?

Is it a "you and me against the world" kind of thing?

I find comfort knowing I am not alone in not understanding that thing...

Guys, the symbol "<3" is a text-based smiley that equates to a heart, like this: . No doubt it's meant to be capable of symbolizing the same things as the pictorial heart smiley: love, affection, etc.

My niece ends all of her emails from college with a smile that she "draws" like this:

:)

So I guess I should have known to tilt my head one way or the other.

But even with tilting, I'm not sure I would have guessed heart. Thanks, MWY.

thanks

*sounds of Shank attempting to resist the urge to make a yankee pot roast reference - it might be lunch time*

I play a lot of online games so you have to figure out the emoticons. I did not understand the heart at first... but now I use it a lot. I tend to shy away from BB type smileys :)wink:  etc) because they don't work on every BB or in every chat program that I use.

I like some of the smiley faces that you dont have to turn your head for ^.~ and -__- etc

You know, I argued with the tattoo artist that it was a "less than three"...

Yes, I am a dork

thanks

Ha ha! Best comeback ever!

(oh wait...there was that one line about panties not ending up in soup (or stew).

MWY 1....Shank 1

Tie.

And ITW....your HS sex-ed experience threw me. In multiple ways. The banana?!! Never mind for now.

I'm not sure of when I'll have a Porsche, but I'll surely call you when the day comes. In the meanwhile, I have a Porsche keyring, does that count? :D
.

No.

I would offer more than a keyring.

(I need a hot car).

If it makes you or shank feel better, I'm the artiest artfuck with more hours in art than MD's in anatomy and I STILL didn't see it either for the longest time.

What kind of online games need emoticons? I've heard of people playing online chess and monopoly and such - is there conversation that gets typed alongside?

And the translation for those two non-tilting "smiley faces" is ..... ?

I appreciate the thought. :)

JM,

I keep seeing you as the most recent poster in this thread and think to myself, "finally! he has posted his 25 random things." But no...you keep moaning about emoticons.

Squint your eyes and you might see the meaning of the no-tilt emoticons.

Not moaning, just trying to follow the conversation. Think of this as asking for the definition of a word in the absence of a dictionary.

I'll pass on the squinting. Since the only thing that matters is the intent of the one who tried to express the emotion in shorthand form, asking seems more sensible than guessing to me.
