2nd federal judge blocks trump's birthright EO

Lawyers for the immigrant rights groups CASA and the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project that brought the case before Boardman have argued that Trump's order violates the right enshrined in the citizenship clause of the Constitution's 14th Amendment that provides that anyone born in the United States is a citizen.

Boardman said at the hearing that Trump's interpretation of the Constitution has been "resoundingly rejected" by the Supreme Court in the past.

"In fact, no court in the country has ever endorsed the president's interpretation," Boardman said. "This court will not be the first."

he's given a 60-day window for trump to appeal the nationwide decision though it's unclear whether trump will appeal. It all depends on if he can count on his judges in SCOTUS to refute what they've already stated in the past, a clever move by the fed judge pointing that out so publicly. Of course, trump being trump will likely want to bulldoze ahead on his pet project.

SCOTUS will uphold anything Trump does. Blatantly partisan and thoroughly corrupt

The U.S. Military Academy West Point ordered all minority cadet clubs to be disbanded immediately as crackdowns on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs set in across the country, according to a report.

All West Point clubs sanctioned by the academy's Directorate of Cadet Activities that highlight different cultures or marginalized groups were ordered to be "disbanded," while other clubs were ordered to "cease all activities" until their status could be reviewed, according to a memo shared to social media.
"This directive cancels all trip sections, meetings, events and other activities associated with these clubs. Moreover these clubs are not authorized to continue informal activities using Government time, resources or facilities," the memo stated, which has been authenticated by the Washington Post.

to be replaced by the trump youth, perhaps? I wonder which salute they'll be using...

the list also includes the Native American Heritage Forum and clubs 'centered around gender and the empowerment of women, including the Corbin Forum and Society of Women Engineers Club.'

The named clubs were ordered to "unpublish, deactivate, archive and otherwise remove all public facing content," which appears to have gone into effect as attempts by the Latin Times to view the clubs' information on West Point's website were met with an error message.

Again, as I've said before, this cannot do anything less than drastically harm military recruitment and retention. No person of color will want to choose a military career at this point; it would be foolish.

Have to get more white guys to die in Gaza, Panama, Greenland, and Canada.

people like him who voted for trump believed it could never happen to them, not after they were so loyal to the felon!
Chica that seems to be the norm with Republicans. They usually end up voting against their own good fortune when it all plays out.

Trump's freeze stalls federal firefighter hiring

Crews helped battle the deadly Los Angeles-area wildfires, and now some worry a shortfall will weaken response capabilities as fire season approaches

.The Trump administration’s federal hiring freeze has stopped the onboarding of thousands of seasonal federal firefighters, including those who work for agencies called on to help battle the devastating Los Angeles-area fires, creating a potential shortfall of firefighters ahead of the next fire season.

Even though President Donald Trump’s Jan. 20 executive order says the freeze does not apply to positions related to “public safety,” federal firefighters are not exempt, according to a person who works in hiring at the Bureau of Land Management.

on day 1, trump froze some funds designated for farmers to help them improve their infrastructure and some of that also included environmentally cleaner projects.
Farmers, who had signed contracts, went ahead with projects on the understanding they'd be reimbursed for some of the costs. Instead, trump has frozen this money and so farmers who had made changes such as new wells, fencing, improving their farm's water systems and so on are now left in limbo, having already paid out for materials and labour. There's no clarity for them about whether or not they will eventually receive the funding they signed contracts for.

Farmers report missing millions of dollars of funding they were promised by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, despite promises from the Trump administration that a federal funding freeze would not apply to projects directly benefiting individuals.

On Wednesday, National Farmers Union President Rob Larew testified before the Senate Agriculture Committee that the Trump administration’s sweeping decisions on federal funding were creating concern for farmers across the country.

“No one knows what funding will be available or if key programs will have the staff needed to operate,” Larew said. “Freezing spending and making sweeping decisions without congressional oversight just adds more uncertainty to an already tough farm economy.”

Skylar Holden, a cattle farmer in eastern Missouri, said he signed a $240,000 contract in December under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program to share costs on investments for his farm.

With the funding, Holden erected new fencing and installed a well. He had planned further improvements to his farm’s water system and spent $80,000 on materials and labor contracts that he expected would be partly paid back by the government.

It's also impacting Iowa soybean farmers who'd secured loans in '22 for a guaranteed 5-year period, and some 1,000 midwestern farms growing corn, soybeans, wheat and sugar beets supported by a $95m grant deal. trump, making America great again, right?

indeed

the farmers embracing the clean energy alternatives may not have been trump voters, though some may have, but if you include all those Iowa and 1,000 midwestern farms growing sugar beets, corn, soybeans, and wheat? I would lay odds that the majority are trump voters, being rural.

I didn't realize until today that the vast majority of sorghum grown in America is grown for export and the primary buyer is, yup, USAID. With the Elon Freeze on USAID, virtually every sorghum farmer in America is now, or will be soon, wiped out.

Murica! Fuck yeah!

I am fine with cuts to excess. These cuts are not thoughtful or considerate to our country.

CISA cuts started under the previous administration and now have accelerated. Anyone understanding the recent ramp up of hacks knows this is stupid and continues to be more stupid.

State and local governments should prepare for changes to CISA, cyber experts say | StateScoop https://statescoop.com/state-local-governments-cisa-changes-2025-kristi-noem/

During the first Trump presidency, I heard an interview with a farmer in the Midwest, sometime after Trump imposed tariffs on China and they retaliated by buying soy beans from South America. This farmer was going bankrupt because of the loss of his soy bean market and he was going to lose the farm that had been in his family for generations. But he still supported Trump and his tariff policies. That tells you something.

"No one ever went broke underestimating the American people."

yet another of trump's chaotic moves temporarily halted by republican (Bush) appointed U.S District Judge John Bates, Washington D.C:

By Brendan Pierson

(Reuters) - A federal judge on Tuesday ordered U.S. health agencies to restore websites that they abruptly took offline in response to an executive order by President Donald Trump telling them to scrub websites of "gender ideology extremism."

Bates ordered all websites specifically identified by Doctors for America in its court filings be restored by 11:59 p.m. (0459 GMT) on Tuesday. He ordered the government to consult with the group to identify any other materials that doctors rely on and restore them by February 14.

Bates wrote in an opinion on Tuesday that the immediate harm alleged by doctors supported an order restoring the websites, and that the health agencies had likely not engaged in a reasoned decision-making process about removing the websites as required by federal law. He said there was no reason the agencies could not work to comply with Trump's order while keeping the sites available.
"Finally, it bears emphasizing who ultimately bears the harm of defendants' actions: everyday Americans, and most acutely, underprivileged Americans, seeking healthcare," the judge wrote.

A large portion of Murican tariffs collected in 2018-2019 were used to reimburse soybean farmers for retaliatory Chinese tariffs on soybeans. The Department of Agriculture reimbursed 90% of soy farmer losses. Grateful soy farmer sued the Ag dept, they wanted 100% of their losses....their Disney World vacations were at risk!
