The official 2012 Heisman finalists will be announced to the media on Monday, December 3rd at approximately 6:00PM.

Until then, and with the regular college football season now complete...

...who gets your vote?

Long, long ago (January), before the 2012 season began, odds makers ranked their favorites (name, position, school, odds):

Matt Barkley (QB USC)7/2
Montee Ball (RB Wisconsin)5/1
Denard Robinson (QB Michigan)5/1
Landry Jones (QB Oklahoma)13/2
Geno Smith (QB West Virginia)7/1
Marcus Lattimore (RB South Carolina)10/1
A.J. McCarron (QB Alabama)15/1
Tajh Boyd (QB Clemson)20/1
Taylor Martinez (QB Nebraska)20/1
De’Anthony Thomas (RB Oregon)25/1
Rex Burkhead (RB Nebraska)25/1
Robert Woods (WR USC)35/1
Tyler Wilson (QB Arkansas)35/1
Aaron Murray (QB Georgia)35/1
Sammy Watkins (WR Clemson)40/1
Keith Price (QB Washington)50/1
Tyrann Mathieu (CB LSU)50/1
Giovani Bernard (RB North Carolina)55/1
Isaiah Crowell (RB Georgia)60/1
James Franklin (QB Missouri)75/1
Kenny Stills (WR Oklahoma)75/1
Malcolm Brown (RB Texas)75/1
Henry Josey (RB Missouri)80/1

An unofficial assessment of Heisman favorites now at the end of the regular season might resemble a list similar to this (in no particular order):

Manti Te'o, LB, Notre Dame
Collin Klein, QB, Kansas State
Marqise Lee, WR, USC
Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M
Jordan Lynch, QB, Northern Illinois
Braxton Miller, QB, Ohio State
A.J. McCarren, QB, Alabama

If your choice is on that list, vote for them in the poll above...

...and if your favorite isn't on the poll list, just vote for "Other" and then cite him in your post.

The announcement of the 78th Annual Heisman Memorial Trophy Award will be made on Saturday, December 8th, 2012

Me?

I'm going with Johnny Football to be the first freshman to take it home...

Aaron Murray of Georgia has 30 TDs and is the only QB to average more than 10 yards per pass.

He gets my vote.

Here's how the USA Today Sports Media Group Survey of its 37 electors currently looks:

Rank. Player / 1st place votes / 2nd place votes / 3rd place votes / Total points

1. Johnny Manziel / 22 / 9 / 6 / 90

2. Manti Te'o / 13 / 16 / 3 / 74

3. Collin Klein / 2 / 7 / 12 / 32

4. Braxton Miller / 0 / 4 / 9 / 17

5. Marqise Lee / 0 / 0 / 4 / 4

6. Jordan Lynch / 0 / 1 / 0 / 2

Other votes: Ka'Deem Carey, Arizona 1; AJ McCarron, Alabama, 1; Geno Smith, West Virginia, 1.

Not an Aggie fan and reluctantly voted for Manziel. I think he's had the best year looking at the defenses he had to go against.

looks like Penn State may be okay....football wise

yes, i think you are right. I am so proud of the team and while it was cold that day, watching them beat Wisconsin in person was priceless.

And then there were three...

Finalists for this year's Heisman announced today:

Colin Klein - Kansas State

Johnny Manziel - Texas A & M

Manti Te'o
- Notre Dame

Winner will be announced this Saturday...

...if it's Manziel, he'll be the first freshman to win it.

If it's Manti Te'o, he'll be the first defense-only player to win it...

...the only sure thing right now about Saturday is that Klein has absolutely no chance of being the first K-State player to take the Heisman home.

Klein was named today as this year's recipient of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award...

...won by the nation's top upperclassman QB.

If Geno Smith had gotten any defensive help at all, it would be his.

As it is, this guy deserves consideration. He's produced some of the most amazing plays I've ever seen, and he makes it look almost routine.

No, Geno had too many games that were average at best

after looking at the stats, i am saying it should be Johnny football, freshman or not

I'd like to see a non-QB win it for a change. I don't think that will happen as the Heisman is, essentially, an award for the best QB.

I do know what you mean but i agree. A defensive player wont win it because i feel they dont impact their team as much as a QB. not saying he cant alter a game, but over a whole season, each and every game?

It wasn't even close...

...here's how the vote went:

Manziel - 474 first-place votes - 2,029 points

Te'o - 321 first-place votes - 1,706 points

Klein - 60 first-place votes - 894 points

Former Heisman winners and a panel of media members do the voting...

IslandMan didn't vote in here yet made a new thread about the winner?

You and him on the outs?

Congrats to him. I think based on his numbers and beating Alabama late in the season, he earned the trophy. His parents raised him right

Ryan TDawg of the Dolphins grinning now...

:D

Poor dude fancies the space between his ears resides on some higher intellectual plane...

...ie, your common utopian.

BTW:

While no doubt disheartened by finishing 2nd, Manti Te'o has collected an unprecedented 6 national awards since the end of the regular season and still has a very big trophy now garnering ALL of his attention:

"I'm relieved that it's over, I'm excited I get the chance to prepare for 'Bama," Manti Te'o said. "I'm telling you guys — Heisman Trophy or national championship, I'll take a national championship 100 times out of 100."

And...

...what better way to end this thread than:
