1930s Question

It sounds like good fun. 1930s dress is optional, but I've decided that I want to do the girlie thing and get completely dressed up for it. I know my hairdresser can probably help me out with the 1930s hair, but I'm completely stumped about 1930s make-up and women's evening wear.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Rent a copy of the Maltese Falcon and/or Casblanca -- both are set in the 1930's. The Maltese Falcon would be better because it has the example of what is approriate for a dame involved in a mystery.

The most important point to remember is that pantyhose didn't exist yet, and stockings had seams (and were made of real silk, but you can probably get away with seamed nylons.)

It's not until the end of this month, Joe. I'm definitely going to go, though! Thanks everyone for all the ideas and advice. When I get the outfit together, I'll post a pic!
