1895 Kansas 8th grade final test

Congratulations, Assmeal. You now have me crying and stamping my feet.

Once again, you went and pulled another one of your patented temper tantrums right before I could publicly predict it.

Damn you. Damn you straight to hell.

Nope, that was directed at me. I went and looked it up is all. I found the answers on some oddball site somwhere. Apparently, the test is real, but according to truth or fiction, the test is real, but it said who it was intended for was not proven.

http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/a/1895exam.htm

I do not think I did anything wrong here.

Oh cut out the friggin smileys. You ain't the first person who's pwnaz0r3d him.

On the other hand, you do appear to have set a record for doing so...
Honestly Loving Tongue, I don't set out to do it. I am not on here that often. I hate for someone to fuck w/me like that. And I aim to fuck em up.

BTW, WHAT record? And who have you spoken to concerning ME discovering alts?

Hmmmm.........

Nope, you didn't do a thing wrong.

The thing is, when Assmeal is getting his ass handed to him, he always
a) Calls his new lord and master "an LT alt"
then
b) Puts 'em on ignore.

I knew it was coming but I failed to call it before he did it. I'm gettin' slow in muh old age...

The funny thing is, I was homeschooled... heh

I have nothing against Ish, or anybody else.

I meant, you either broke the speed record for hanging Ishmael his ass once and for all, or you came purdy dernt close, pardner. :) And by accident, no less.

Looky here. A gaggle of idiots talking to themselves. Gotta love it.

*Source - this exam information was sent to this author on February 12, 2001 by OkieVan@aol.com, a reader of this Grandfather Economic Report series. Another confirmation regarding authenticity > Sept 2003 email from Dionee Schwenke of Cape Coral, Florida (Dionees@cs.com), who is writing a book about her teaching career and researched the above exam: "I know the test reflects what was in the textbooks of that era, and that it is similar to the test my mother had to take in the 1920s before she could be certified in Nebraska. I confirmed the authenticity of the test you mentioned by the old fashioned way, picked up the phone. First to Mary McIntyre at the Smoky Valley Genealogical Society & Library, 785-825-4624 (got that info from a query to the Salina newspaper). Ms. McIntyre assured me the test was fact, not fiction, and told me it had been written by J. W. Armstrong, the superintendent of Salina County schools in 1895. They even have on record the names of students who took the test--and the answers--but they can't divulge that info because of privacy laws. Then she gave me the name of his granddaughter, Mary Laas. 785-825-5140. Mrs. Laas was fun to visit with; told me about growing up across the section from her grandfather; how the family still has the hand written notes her grandpa made as well as a typed copy; how his family once nursed Buffalo Bill back to health. . . I asked about needing permission to include the test in my book and she said go ahead, it is public property now that it has run in the newspaper. They have had a lot of calls in Salina, not just at the Laas home but at the Genealogical Society as well."

Another good reference is the Smoky Valley Genealogical Society's (Salinas, Kansas) web site > http://skyways.lib.ks.us/kansas/genweb/ottawa/smoky.html. You will note on that site a link "1895 School Exam" which takes you to the test shown above at > http://skyways.lib.ks.us/kansas/genweb/ottawa/exam.html

(other sites commenting on this exam are at http://www.snopes.com/language/document/1895exam.htm, which does not question the exam but questions validity of the test questions for today's world, while also showing an exam in the 1870s - - and, http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/1895exam.htm, which appears to add proof of the existence of this exam while questioning (without proof) if perhaps it was intended for other than 8th graders).

Exam answers: Since some readers of this page asked me (Michael Hodges) for the answers to the above exam, on 3 March 2005 I wrote to the Smoky Valley Genealogical Society in Salinas, Kansas (Towneranch@aol.com) as follows > "I would much appreciate your pointing me to the answers, if available, to the 1895 8th Grade Exam. Thank you, Michael Hodges." I received this reply > "Someone has attempted to answer the questions on the 1895 school test, and they are posted on the internet at http://www.barefootsworld.net/1895examcomp.html There is an error on the answers. In the math portion of the test. The answer to question number 9 should be 160 acres with a value of $2,400." Shirley George Towner SVGS Salina, KS

Fuck you idiots. :)

Ah, so the sources I found were not correct.

I stand corrected. I apologize.

Actually I'm not LT. Just watching a circle jerk.

The record that was broken is the one LT uses when referring to Ishmael.

He has another broken record he uses when referring to me.

Ishmael gets it right for once

You're right on the mark with that one. The problem is you're the one in the center.

While I tend to think that the youth of today have had the education system 'dumbed down' for the sake of such things as emotional health and emotional IQ, and never leaving anyone behind (which I think is garbage, by the way... people sometimes need failure as a motivational tool), I also think that young kids today are brilliant.

When my mother graduated from high school, it took some effort, but only classes, to graduate with honours.

When I graduated, graduating with honours required not only 95th percentile and above, but also a million extra-curricular activities, non-school related volunteer work, evidence of hobbies outside of school, etc. School was simply not enough anymore. We had to excel in EVERYTHING.

There's a lot more pressure on kids to be above average nowadays, even though the system seems easier. We might not know how to properly define a verb (or whatever), but I don't necessarily believe that that's important. Language has changed, it has evolved. Words have changed meaning, the structure of sentences has become more loose (perhaps as a result of the internet and chat-speak, but perhaps not), etc. I think that kids tend to look past the simple things, because the most validation they get is from mastering the extraordinary. And that is not their fault, but ours. It's not enough, nowadays, for children to be average. It's not enough for kids to be just 'good' at something. They have to be great at it. I don't think that's fair.

Okay. I got ya. I did it to 2 others yesterday. And was right on target. And don't be so sure if it is an accident. I pay attention to certain little details at times. And sometimes I observe w/out actually interacting. An idealist is extremely dangerous to certain people once he/she decides to take action.

This guy used to use "Phrodeau's daughter" as his title.

That's absolutely true.

Which is to say that when your mother graduated they expected the best from everyone and when you graduated they expected the best from no one.

I applaud your efforts. Congrats. But I can't help but think of those that just 'cruised' and what they could look forward to. And then I think, "What in the hell are we paying for?"

It's free you fucking idiot! Take your "I am greater than thou" attitude and go do some thing useful. Like, find your little dick an take a piss where we need to kill some insects.

At my school, they expected the best from everyone, and did everything in their power to help students reach that best. We had one of the highest averages in our district. Peer tutoring programs (three of which I ran), teacher-led tutoring programs, help dates, etc. We worked hard to do well. Our school was held to much higher standards than public schools, and was run much the same as my mother's.

Tax-payers dollars pay for kids to go to public schools.

My school wasn't free. It was private, and somewhat costly.

Which is in conflict with your previous post. Ya know?
