A congressman doesn't have time for dating. He figures he will eventually meet someone after he retires, but he wants to be prepared for that time. He wants to know how do people find and choose their life partners. He's a policy wonk, not a charmer. He starts a subcommittee with public hearings on C-SPAN.
Back in my toddling days, a GOP-led US Senate saw need to investigate comic books twisting the minds of USA youths, and the 'indecency' of garbled song lyrics. Minor matters like racism, sexism, and impending nuclear holocaust took a back seat to moral probes. What better diversion from pandemic and toxic chauvinism than committees looking into dating systems?1. the government has solved all of the other pressing problems of the nation and don't have anything else to do to earn their paychecks...

America's weird. Over here in the UK, our politicians got rid of things like racism and sexism years ago. I think it's because we make a point of only electing honest politicians who have the public's interest at heart.
Most failed marriages are amidst serial divorcers having fresh weddings every couple years. Sure, half of my marriages have failed so far, the first lasting only 7 years, the second (still ongoing) is at 42 years. So I'm statistically normal.Something like half of all marriages fail and for "relationships," it's a lot higher than that.
I doubt we actually have a fixable problem here. European occupiers of North America have had high divorce rates since colonial times. So it's a tradition, not a problem IRL.It would take an entirely different kind of society to fix that, which probably is way beyond a political problem that Congress could deal with.

Think of relationships as test runs or recreations, often with several going simultaneously, like back in my promiscuous L.A. days. First marriages can be training exercises too, when we learn who not to partner with. Or as the wisdom saying says: Ya gotta kiss a lotta frogs before ya find yer prince.

But a political investigation can seed a good LIT story. Legislative committee sends staffers out to solicit dates. Hilarity ensues, especially when a hard-driving pol claims on TV to have a list of 39 (or maybe 69) known predators. Their rivals must now produce lengthier lists. What happens to those named?
