Yuri
Yuri stops outside ethe chamber. Princess catalina's horrible screams and shreiks of pain cut through him like a blade.
"Idiot!" he thinks to himself. "He will be the destruction of himself and our whole dynasty with his sickness for pain and degradation! What he knows about women must occupy his mind as a pea fills an empty wine barrel."
Catalina screamed again, her cry ending in pitiful muffled sobs, as if the King had stuffed his burly fist in her mouth. Yuri resisted the urge to cover his ears lest the guards still loyal to the thuggish King saw his dismay. Guards stood by the chamber now, leering with their idiot mouths at the Princess painful humiliation.
"The boy has the subtlety of a hog in a trough of swill." Yuri thought to himself. "He is not fit to rule and never has been. It is I and who kept the Kingdom together, who collected the taxes, raised the army, who designed the system of alliances and treaties that has allowed us to get what we have today. And now I am forced to stand by and watch him throw it all away."
Yuri looked down at the roles of proclamations he had brought for the King's signature. Well, he would just have to forge the King's mark to them as he had to all the other. The Kind was apparently involved in his torture again. He couldn't be disturbed. Not while there were innocents to be flayed alive or virgins deflowered.
He needed fresh air. Even up here the palace stunk like from the overcrowded dungeons.
He walked out on the battlements, breathing in the fresh air in deep lungfuls, trying to rid himself of the stink of the iunconscionsle, senseless cruelty inside the palace.
Oh, a little torture had its place, of course. After all, a man is a man and likes to show his strength, and Yuri hadn't yet met the maiden, serf or princess, who didn't respond a little more ardently after the whip, the nipple clamp, or a night in the dungeon. It added spice to the relationship and brought out the passion is the most frigid girl. But this kind of thing was beyond the King's understanding. Where a pin was needed, he used a spike.
It would have been so easy. All he had to do was show the Princess the least bit of respect, the least glimmer of humanity, and, in the desperate position she was in, she would have had to marry him. That would have put the Kingdom of de Jura in their pocket, legally as well as in the hearts of the people, freed up the troops to bolster their armies on the frontiers and opened up a new source of recruitment.
But now that was past doing. Word of the beloved princess' vile treatment had already spread through the populace,of da Jura and kindled an unquenchable rage in the population. Factions were forming even now, and bands of da Juran rebels roamed the hills. Two of the King's food tasters had been poisoned by the very food intended for the King's mouth, and now only captured De Jurans cxould be used for this task.
While the King played with his hot pincers and piercing needles, the rebels were threatening the very palace.
It was obvious to Yuri that the Princess could have been easily satisfied. She wanted nothing to do with a woman's touch, so what was to be gained by forcing her into a lesbian relationship merely for the young King's amusement? She had even offered herself to the King, making the ultimate sacrifice, but he had wanted to make her suffer more. he was a m,an who felt nothing but the joy of hurting people. He made Yuri sick.
But there was perhaps a chance. Yuri didn't worry for himself. He knew Mariana would speak for him should the rebellion get this far, and he intended to be far from here before that should occur. Anyhow, the Barons were on his side. They were not happy about given their daughters for the King's enjoyment either.
For now, Yuri had two concerns: to preserve the life and sanity of Princess Catalina before the King drove her mad or killed her outright, and to see what her reaction would be to the secret rebel message he knew was being smuggled to her even now by her sympathizers in the palace. The King might have agents, but they were all like him, cruel, vain, without sophistication. Yuri had agents too, and they didn't make enemies of whomever they dealt with.
He stepped back into the palace.
Yes, there were limits. Even a master's slaves must love and respect their master, or the house falls apart. They just will not serve.
