In his case, we don't have to speculate that he would look for armed security if he was faced with any sort of actual threat because we know exactly what he did when a small black woman asked him for money. He felt that there was some implied threat because there was a big black man nearby. On the basis of what was going on in his fevered imagination about big black men he decided to go seek out the first white man with a steel penis substitute that he could find.

He specifically mentioned in that story that the Goodwill had hired an armed guard because it's in a less desirable neighborhood. It wasn't happenchance that he happened to hide behind an armed guard he specifically flood to hide behind a guy with a gun.

And he and Rory posture as if that isn't exactly what they would do if faced with a threat.

I said at the time that that wasn't an unreasonable thing to do. In fact I went so far at the time to suggest that even if he wormself* were carrying and carrying concealed it probably would be reasonable to remove himself from that situation and LOL Arm Security that's being paid to deal with that sort of situation deal with it.

Exactly how is it that bashing someone's head in with a baseball bat when you are presented with a threat is "the right thing to do" but firing a round (or two) into the center of mass is not? In saying that, to me as an outsider it seems that, unlike Australia and NZ,
Pandora's box was opened long ago and it's too late for the States.

If one disarms the population - indeed, that will prevent many school or Las Vegas types of shootings. But on the other hand criminals and home burglars who will hold on to their guns.

I sometimes envision a dystopian future for the US :
in which one can only enter cities or city centers after going through a metal detector point. Kind of like in "What happened to Monday."
