this one's for the chit chat and encouragement. the other one is for POEMS ONLY.

:)

Ok, I like the idea, but even if the poem is about Christmas, does dark(er) poetry get ruled out?

no, so long as it relates and keeps to your selected christmas theme, it is welcome.

edit: sorry  wrong thread. I'll edit again with my new Christmas poem later.

I'm sorry, WSO! I got confused between threads. *ditzy here*

look what I found...

It says the words from this song first appeared in a book
titled Mirth without Mischief. That book came out in 1780
(or 1783) in England. The tune apparently dates back much
further and came from France. That 1780 book describes
"The Twelve Days of Christmas" as a "memory and forfeits game"
played by children at that time. The leader recited the first
verse, the next child recited the second verse, and this
continued until someone missed his or her verse and had to
pay some kind of penalty in the game. "The Twelve Days of
Christmas" became popular at the "12th-night parties" that
took place in the Christmas season.

The Twelve Dames of Christmas??? oh Art i'm killing myself laughing. this is going to be insightful to say the least. :D

as for what you found... i didn't realise it went so far back. the 1780s! wow.

i would have been one of the kids that kept the penalty corner light shining.

;)

i think i need those candy canes via intravenous means, please.

no chance to write this morning. i'll aim for this afternoon, or, by my monday, i'll have two poems up anyway.

I think this will be a fun set to write <smile> looking forward to this

...change those candy canes to gin and tonic with a slice of lemon and i'll be in.

i love the info you found, by the way.

i don't know about being fun to write, but yours is looking like it's going to be fun to read! :D

okay, i'm in! :D i've figured out a 'theme' and well, don't blame me if what you see coming from me is a little on the unseen Christmas side. i just love being different. lol

for being such a sweetheart

I am feeling better this morning and will catch up on my part of the 12 days <grin>

sorry i've been lame in the support this time. family stuff going on that's taken some time from me.

welcome Tess and Man Ray and well done for hanging in there MET.

i'm enjoying this theme approach to writing. i'm learning lots and having fun too.

keep up the great writing!

:rose:

ditto wild...

following the same train of thought is not as easy as I would have expected <grin> I would guess that writing it in one sitting and submitting at different times may have been easier <grin>

hey ee thanks for adding a great poem to the 12 Days of Christmas thread. you've only got 11 more to go!

*wicked wink*

:rose:

wso
ps do you really say scones so that it rhymes with Jones? that's very English, methinks.

no, no, no, that's definately cheating!

mind you, i wouldn't be sitting here now with a Blank Page, if i'd done them all in the first few days.

I don't know that I could do it in one sitting <grin> I am startin' to get that creative flow back finally, shaking off the haze and ready for bright blue days <grin> and a muse for 7 more ways <smile> to complete the 12 days of christmas

i swear there should be a 'daze' in there somewhere, but on one hours sleep i can't figure out where.

i need help too. i haven't begun my next one and it's due now. i have to go to work but i'll be back 3-4 hours.

i think it's my cat that's putting me off writing.

he's sitting beside me all snuggly and happy looking. i swear he just knows i'm sitting here wanting to write.

how's it going Art, managed to make some sense there?
