11 Year Old Boy Suspended For Bringing Tiny Swiss Army Knife On School Camping Trip

Stop the madness…

Via Todd Starnes:

A 10-year-old California boy was suspended and threatened with expulsion after he brought a Swiss Army Knife on a week-long school school camping trip.

Tony Bandermann told Fox News that his son Braden was on a science camping trip with his class at Garden Gate Elementary School in Cupertino, Calif.

According to a school incident report, the boy showed the small knife to other students who then reported him to teachers. The incident report stated that law enforcement was also notified. However, no charges were filed.

Bandermann, who was out-of-town on a business trip, said he received a telephone call from the school’s principal informing him that his son had violated the school’s weapons policy. The punishment, she told him, must be immediate and severe.

When I was in scouts we carried hunting knives, pocket knives and even knives to school.....Never a problem with misuse.....I believe it now boils down to lack of home training, bad company, drugs etc. We even had rifles or shotguns in autos to go hunting after school. Also my mom and pop kept up with my where abouts etc and met me and friends when in from school. Also no such things as gangs in all my places of living. Also teachers had control over students instead of students over parents and teachers!
I really think a picture of a gun etc and getting expelled or a cup cake with a military man on it etc is plain wrong. I also think places not allowing American Flag to be displaced is a sign of what's wrong. I could go on and on but I won't!

Would it have been ok if he had a licensed gun?

It is really sad that we in the United States are sterilizing society.

A few weeks ago a teacher in Idaho was reprimanded for using the word vagina in a 10th grade biology class because it was in the text book.

A couple weeks later a teacher in upstate New York was teaching the children about WWII and he (or she) told a group of students to argue pro nazi, irrespective of their beliefs. The group was supposed to be new recruits in the army and their lives depended on it. Nothing wrong with that exercise. I know kids in Europe do the same exercise. No issues or problems. But parents here in the US have a problem when somebody tries to teach their children to think.

When I was a kid in school there was hardly a boy around who didn't have a pocket knife on his person. Course we all had dads who would kick our asses if we misused them too.

Part of the problem is people forget that discipline at home helped them growing up. I have talked to my children about rules @ discipline v. go with popular culture. They generally feel that the rules help them. They had an advantage. They did spend a lot of time traveling and seeing how people in other countries and cultures lived.

It is easy to pass the buck. Between the parents, the schools and the legal system. Everybody is a worker bee. Nobody has the authority. The moment somebody seems like they are doing something right, there will be a group of people to strip him or her of the authority.
