Yes, and? We observe this moment of silence even in New Zealand. Though our official 'holiday' of rememberance is ANZAC (Australia New Zealand Army Core) Day, March 25. The World Wars were harsh on the whole world.

It's been quite a pleasant change for me too. But I think it's the appearance because they are well spaced, more than anything. And I suppose being given teh opportunity to observe them makes a difference too. Lol, my last job was 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. Except Christmas day.

Anyway, it gave us something to whine about in high school.

We have anywhere from 8-12 depending on where you work (and maybe where you live)

New Year's Day - Jan
Good Friday - April
Easter Monday (for some) - April
Victoria Day - May
Canada Day - July
civic holiday Aug 1st - only for some
Labour Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas Day
Boxing Day

Some places also get Remembrance Day and Heritage Day (Feb), but not all and schools are open for both.

I think I'm missing one but I'll be damned if I can remember which.
