10 steps towards a fascist society

The pieces are all falling to place as I type this.

Our criminal and illegitimate government is staging instances of violence and false flag terrorism to be exploited for political purposes, namely repealing the 2nd amendment and disarming all American citizens.

You do realise that fascism is a far right doctrine. It always amazes me that right wingers equate fascism with Obama who is as centrist as they come.

Seems like self inflicted wounds repeat themselves.

Fascism and communism are both totalitarian.

To be more correct, I should have called this thread "10 steps towards a totalitarian state."

The disturbing political developments in our country is tantamount to the fact that the United States of America is a closing society.

All of these things are already happening in the United States.

Interesting - those conditions or very similar existed more around the Macarthy era. I must have missed the Fascist state take over in history class.

The author cites Thailand as the clarion bell example. Are you serious? Mussolini and Hitler are also used (predictable) with no reference to the Great Depression or the fall out from the end of WW1.

In fact, is there any reference to economic & social upheaval in the article? (truly starving people are motivated people).

And you base that on this article? Or do you have some substance apart?

Ah yes, Namoi Wolf.

Here is her lecture in video format.

Evidently this poor woman is on every single government watch list that exists.

I'm going to make your day. Wolf considers herself a leading feminist. People stand in line to kiss her ass and tell her what a great feminist she is. Personally, I think she's full of shit. Alternet, most of the time is a decent alternative news source, but just like any news org they have some quacks who appear educated. Additionally, for her to try and put anything in historical perspective, especially as she has the historical perspective of a knat, is a joke. Of course, these are just my opinions.

Do i read a "but" ?

I mean, feminists are always problematic, as feminism is a kind of extremism, so what do you expect from the leading feminist? She doesn't get that position with being moderate, I think.

i haven't found a point to disagree with her positions in what she wrote there.

And for Mikeys news quality standards, this is high-end.

My point is that I wouldn't put a lot of stock in what she says. She makes a few good points but she's biased. People may consider feminism extreme, and my guess is it's extreme to many men and women, but like any group or movement it has its nuts who think they're speaking for everyone. Another alternet example is Frankie Schaeffer, who incidentally is a feminist. His latest article there is a rant on conservative Christians. Until recently I enjoyed reading his articles and I've read several of his books. And I agree with a lot of his points in his articles..However, if he wants to persuade other Christians to consider his pov's, especially those on the right, he isn't going to do it by calling conservative Christians idiots.

Americans are too individualistic to support any sort of totalitarianism. What is more likely is a partial restoration of the last quarter of the nineteenth century. This is the time period between the end of Reconstruction and the beginning of the Progressive Era.

During that time there was nothing equivalent to Social Security, Medicare, unemployment compensation, and minimum wage laws. The government restricted its intervention in the economy to tariffs, business subsidies, and the violent suppression of trade union activity. Blacks in the South were restricted to second class citizenship, and subdued by the terrorism of the Klu Klux Klan.

Hey, River...

Before you make a fool of yourself again, do some reading at the local library.

Fascism is neither a far left political doctrine, nor a far right one. It advocates state control of private business. It is its own brand of weirdness.

Read about it here and here.

feminism is not extremism

some feminists are extremists

so are some vegetarians.. does that mean all vegetarians are extremists?

I'm a feminist.... I dont ask for handouts, I demand to be treated with the equal respect of men, I believe I should have the same control over my body as man has over his

does that make me an extremist?

No, you're a moderate, independent, modern woman, that wants gender equality. A position that even men can support.

Although some women tend to call this feminism - it isn't. Those feminists I know are simply man haters. They support women, not equality. They want more. They think of men as born bad, unable to overcome their women supressing behavior.

I would call myself a feminist, if it would be different.

Actually it is... just because you think it's not, doesnt make it true

there are dozens of views on feminism , its not a monotheistic dogma

I'm a feminist and I think men are great, I just think women are just as easily great

your opinion was your OPINION on what feminism is... and it's very similar to one I used to hear from LT

you probably know dozens of women that are feminists but dont call them as such.. that's because our culture is still male dominated and tells us that feminism are man-hating harpies.. and they dont want to be that

Sarah Palin for example decries feminism and its evils.. yet capitalized on it at every single opportunity she could

she may have hated feminism, but in the end she couldnt have gotten to her spot without it

if you blieve women should be treated the same as men..you are a feminist, and feel free to call yourself one

Revealed: how the FBI coordinated the crackdown on Occupy

The forces of corporatism are all around. We're going down the shitter because we won't hold our leaders feet to the fire.

I think mike just need to get laid.:)

Yes, the US federal government is 100% wholly controlled by private industry and corporate special interest. Public interest has been completely removed from the equation and replaced by placating the needs of multinational conglomerations at the social and economic detriment to the American citizenry.

The purpose of the government now is maximizing the profits and stock values of the corporate state and further consolidating wealth, power, and opportunity.

Mike, I thought of this thread when I read this article today:

"Naomi Wolf has for many years now been claiming that a fascist coup in America is imminent. Most recently in The Guardian she alleged, with no substantiation, that the U.S. government and big American banks are conspiring to impose a "totally integrated corporate-state repression of dissent." Many of her arguments rely on what she styles as rigorous historical research and analysis of current events. But if you compare her characterizations of the historical sources and current news accounts that she cites with the sources themselves, it is possible to discern a pattern of egregious misstatements and errors in her political writing."
