Ok - am *hugely* excited. After 10 months the fiance and I have finally been deemed responsible enough <pulls responsible face> to babysit the nephew! All by ourselves!

Anyway... he has top and bottom teeth, so what food is safe for him to eat? What might he enjoy?

I want him to have a lovely time with us :)

<claps hands and jumps up and down>

Cheerios. Just the plain ones. Babies love them, and it's fun to watch how they pick them up using their "pinchers." Ok, so we're easily entertained here.

Oh, I dunno, I got great entertainment from watching the poor little lad try and get my woolly hat off his head <snicker>

Will upload a pic for you :D

Ask the mum about food. My neice is still only eating thoroughly pureed food or she throws it right back up. I'm sure the mum will give you a supply of whatever you need.

My ten month old granddaughter likes bananas.

We give her a third of a banana to hold, and feed her the rest on a spoon.

The cat, hovering around for any dropped scraps, does not appreciated mashed banana in her fur. She likes scattered lumps of risotto, chicken, and fish but banana sticks like glue.

Og

PS. We have a wipe-clean high chair and a vinyl floor. Even so, the mess one ten month old can make with a meal is amazing.

His mother gives him high-sugar caramel flavoured yoghurts, chocolate and biscuits to keep him quiet and food from jars the rest of the time.

I wouldn;t feed an animal like that.

Not that I would *ever* mention a word to her or the fiance...

Chopped up softish fruit is good then?

Yes.

And not-too-spicy adult food, mashed, not liquidised.

Our granddaughter like grated hard cheese - cheddar, red leicester, gruyere and others as a topping to pasta or rice based meals.

Soft bread and butter's good.
Streamed until soft veggies; pasta, mooshed up meats ... damn, it's a long time since I've fed a tiny tyke!
Just watch out for choke hazards.
Yoghurt's good.

And damn they can spread cake a long way :D

I know it may sound strange but at this stage, my babe was wanting anything she could get her newly forming teeth into....ie: something hard!

She would chomp for hours quiet happily on a denuded chicken drumstick bone..... and when that wasn't available, a suitably clean engine exhaust valve! (not a great deal of nutritional value, I grant you, but she could hold it, it was cold therefore easing the inflamed gums and it certainly wasn't loaded with sugar!)

I would check with the parents as to whether the infant has had any adverse reactions to any foods especially anything with nuts, eggs, dairy and seafood. Avoid artificially sweetened, preserved and coloured foods - fresh and home prepared are best.

In general terms, she ate what we did... suitably mashed to avoid choking hazard and to ease digestion.

Have fun!

Best appliances to associate with child that is beginning to feed him/herself are a shop vac and a pressure washer.

Don't be offended. It's really hard to let them go sometimes, especially if he's their only child.

S'not that. Her mother babysits all the time <sigh>
Just feels a bit personal.
