Nice guess on no. 4. I had the same 3 letters on the third word, and I figured out 4 more possiblities to fill in those spaces. (And, I had already eliminated another one.)
Got it in "phew" only by using a word in no. 5 that used a lot of different lettesr.

I got this in 3 today.
This does not mean it was easy.
Got it in 3 tries and 9 hours.
Took me that long to think of a word that fit what I knew after 2.

I had a similar problem, I ended up playing a word bingo that I knew wasn't right, but it did help me fix letters in positions and led me to the right word

I knew that g was the first letter, and almost sure i was second, so I went through the alphabet trying things out in the third spot. I'm sure that, if I had just sat down and worked on it steady, it would have taken less time.

I'd worked out it had I, G and O, didn't know right positions but was working on assumption I was the second letter, stared at it for ages before I tried bingo even though I knew N wasn't in it, luckily it led me to the answer!

I knew that g was the first letter, that i and o were in the word, and that neither of them was the third letter, and that i was also not 4th. Seemed very unlikely that i would be last, so I spent a lot of time on the third letter. But, sometimes working your way through the alphabet makes thinks take a long time
