But if you read the story without seeing an author’s name until the end, would you react to it more positively or negatively according to whether the author claimed to be male or female?

Just wondering,

SophiaK
If I read an author before and added to the favourites, then I would read anything they write, no matter the gender. I was talking only about authors that I know absolutely nothing about, which is like 99.99% of Lit.

My reaction to a story... If I make it to the end and like the story, then I like the story. In that case I could not care less who the author is. If I did not like the story then yes, I would react differently.

I have no problem with alts for pen purposes and that’s not necessarily about gender - if you write both soppy romcoms and hard core non consensual stuff you might want different IDs so your audience knows what it’s getting... but if those alts go into the boards and start connecting with people it’s a different kettle of fish...

I’m with Justa on that - if someone claiming to be a woman contacts me, and I find out they are not, it would bother me... I share quite a lot and I am very open on here. I don’t expect everyone to be the same but if you come at me with a deliberately fake persona I’m immediately suspicious of your motivations. I’ve had ‘women’ contact me before who send me face pics... interest dries up quickly when it’s apparent I will not reciprocate... always leaves me wondering whose picture I actually received...

Interestingly I’ve never considered writing a story from a male point of view... I am far more invested in what’s going through the female leads mind because that’s what interests me personally. Do lots of folk write from the alternative gender? Perhaps I should try it...

I am speaking about Stories and Novels in general, I don't want to read about a woman's first time experience from some hairy guy. Most times the male writer can't capture the thoughts and emotions of a woman and make it feel 100% authentic. It's like reading MY LIFE AS A SLAVE written by Tom Cruise, how the fuck would you know lol. I also don't want to read a book, about the struggles of becoming a better man by a female author.

Only few authors who do research, listen to the opposite sex and openly hear their POV, can provide some sense of authenticity to the story. All authors don't put in the the time and hard work, to truly capture the experience, so the reader can feel like this actually happened to said Author.

If I become a fan of an Author, after reading some of their amazing work, then I might want to read anything they branch out to.

When I watch lesbian porn, I could automatically tell if it's a male director and they usually fuck up the scene.

I am a bit (a lot) jaded by the apparent inability of people to discuss issues rationally. That's why I avoid the political discussions around here. I don't have a problem discussing real issues (more people should do this), but I don't want to get automatically called a Nazi or a Libtard. I am a real person who holds a wide range of views that anyone who files them-self as a "Insert Political Party Here"would find contradictory. I foolishly expected people on a sex site would be a bit more open-minded.

Wrong.

I also find it amazing that people prefer not only photo-shopped distortions to real people, but also that people prefer airbrushed edited pics of models over those of real people. Don't get me wrong: I look at those other pics too. I for one spend more time on AmPics pictures than threads with internet pics. As interesting as some are, I appreciate real women who find the courage to post nakey pics of their naughty bits. (You all know who you are).

Interesting discussion on the topic of, let's call it "gender voice" in writing. A friend challenged me to write in a female voice. I wrote two stories in a female voice. It was an interesting exercise. I recommend it to any writer as a challenge. (If you're interested they are called "His Dick" and "His Reward". The link to my stories is below.)

Just sayin’

My favorite author here is a man, and he writes in a first person woman, often and well.
He writes from a male perspective, too, as well as third person.
He’s very straight.
Pretty much every story he has written is rated 4.7 and above.

You should. And so should Annie. Just to challenge yourselves. I’ll bet you can. I would love to read what you both write.
Your AV is beautiful, BTW.

Thanks lovely, I thought I’d lost that pic when I killed the thread but a friend had saved a copy and I’m glad - that’s a very happy pic for me. I felt quite kickass at the time... I wasn’t trying to create anyone else’s idea of what sexy should be... it feels a little more me than some of the carefully considered angles that I normally focus on to make sure my snaps are good enough for anyone else. When I took that I didn’t care, I was taking it for me... still makes me smile now

Has there been anything in your life that's left you jaded? What about Lit specifically? Can you break out of a jaded mindset?

In real life, many experiences have left me jaded to the point that I am really careful now. I'm extremely jaded over religion although I wish not to share why.

Lit has jaded me because of the different things I have dealt with over the years. It's one reason why I pop on sporadically now and why I'm not as huggy anymore.

Breaking oout of a jaded mindset can be done, but it's a bunch of work.

I'm late to the game; life leaves you jaded about life. And you should be somewhat jaded, otherwise you're giving a Nigerian prince your SS#. Lit just makes you be more careful about revealing yourself. Stay jaded my friends

I think being jaded (or cynical or overly cautious) is a two-edged sword, though I don't think they're all synonymous.

It maybe that I put to much emphasis on the importance of pushing the edges of your life and taking chances. I just holistically doubt the value of being jaded as a default position. If your default position in any new encounter is "no", it can have negative impact. There is a fine line there.

I draw that on knowing people who are very jaded and consistently miss out on the strange and good things hidden in the folds of life because, when they appear, they just don't trust them.

Summer Music

What song just feels like summer to you? What's your summer jam? What genre of music do you prefer in the summer?

Bonus points for links.

Christmas music is the only seasonal music i don't listen to year-round.

I am just as happy to listen to The Beach Boys or 'Pontoon' in January as I am in July.

Good music is good music.

That’s an easy one... although this was used some years back in a drink driving awareness ad which marred the song a little for me... my brain now goes to that screech of brakes...

Its one I often sing in the kitchen on a very sunny day...

Not sure I prefer any particular genre during summer months though...

I have no such thing as summer music. There is Christmas music and music. Of course, I live in Florida so the season are average, hurricane, Christmas. I guess Rock You Like a Hurricane is considered a Florida hurricane song and is traditionally played after the first alcohol emergency prep, during the hurricane party, after making jokes about its name, before the 2nd emergency alcohol run as the hurricane party wiped out the emergency supply before the hurricane. Other summer songs depend on the name of the hurricane.
