❓ Am I The Only One...

Am I the only one who hates "IRL"/"RL" when people refer to "online" and "offline"?

Like, hello?! I AM REAL. This is REAL. FFS way to go to invalidate nearly 80% of my life. With working remotely too...am I not real if I can't be seen in person???

🙄
I only really use those to clarify outside of Lit (family, daily home stuff) and the interactions I have here. It's just a shorthand I guess.
My friends here are as important to me as any I've physically met. This is my main place to generally socialise too

Absolutely there are degrees of meaning, but I hate it especially when it's used to justify poor behaviour online.

I use it as shorthand as well.

Except for when I dated 100% online for a while last year. The situation made it such that we both knew it was partly fantasy, and could never become reality, it was something we could not forget. Friendship was real though. And many other friendships here.

But I'm the same person. Like @Cat , cannot be bothered to try to be something else. One Finnish songmaker put it (though the translation is awful):
I don't envy those who are made to live a double life
Sometimes I feel like I can't live even this single one properly

BTW, AITOO stressed about starting the next week way too tired, weekend not being even nearly enough rest?

I used to use this exclusively but that was when I thought that real connection couldn't be found or happen online. I have since changed my opinion-expereince is the best teacher-and have learned a lot about myself. I sometimes still refer to irl for offline but I mean that as a reference to my physical in person intersctions versus my online ones. It doesn't mean fake versus real for me.
This is making me rethink that use though. My goal is not to invalidate anyone and of using irl for offline does that ill happily rethink it. Maybe OL and IP...
How do other folks differentiate? And I'm not wondering talking about being different people km the same in person and online but there are times when differentiation makes sense.

Honestly there is no easy way unless we make the transition to "online" and "offline". I personally say "in my online <activity> group", which is a mouthful but is also clear.

I've always assumed that "In Real Life" meant the meat world, the lives we lead in person. On Line can certainly bleed into the meat world. But when it does it still may not be part of the truth we present those around us.

Oops, I use it, but it doesn't bother me. There's my Lit life and then there's my daily life with work/family/etc. Those very rarely intertwine as my family/friends are super judgmental, so saying "I met them on a sex site" would further cull my friends list and dig me deeper into a hole with my family. 😂

🙋🏼‍♀️

Me!! I hate it, big time!

It’s real to me. My friendship’s etc are real. I’m no different here than I am in my face to face interactions. But there are so many people who see it differently and they are very different in their day to day life. Or people who have a different persona on/offline. So I suppose it depends on that, maybe?
I can see that with some, but I'm the same person here as on social media and in person. There's a few here that can vouch for that. The only exception is what I mentioned above... with my Bible belt friends/family... I'm freer to be the real me here. I can say something dirty without someone using my middle name.
Third! 🙋🏼‍♀️

For me, there is online communication and offline.
- I am the same both places. (Maybe a different name..🤫)

But this is just as real as offline relations. ❤️

The whole "Different Persona" - well, if that is what gives some people an escape, who am I to judge them?
Personally, I am the same. (Honestly, I cannot be bothered trying to create a new Persona... Too lazy and more importantly; I am pretty much satisfied with my own personality, granted it is skittish and flighty.. but also merry and content! I do not wish to be another "me")
You would never need a different persona as you are delightful as you are. 😘

AITOO who gets annoyed when they find something cringy? Like I hate feeling judgy but some things just give me the creeps.
I find it hard as I consider myself a nice and tolerant person. So when something bothers me, in a what I consider an unreasonable way, but I can't help it... yeah. It bothers me.
But only for a little while. 😉

Am I the only one who screwed up basic addition for xemself?

How it should be done: 3+6=9.
How my weird brain does it: 3+6=36.

...and no, I'm not joking, but I really wish I was.
