What are the topics for discussion?

I'd say it's a good spot for stories not being discussed elsewhere, "lighter" political topics, overflow from larger topics, and so on.

This one is interesting. Not sure how far the Dems really want to go with this...

The Quest to Bring Young Men Back to the Democrats

In the months leading up to the 2024 election, and particularly after the ascension of Vice President Kamala Harris to the top of the presidential ticket, Democrats found themselves particularly vexed about the best way to reach young men and bring them into their coalition. Their fears that they were falling short in this regard were borne out in November, when the majority of young men between ages 18 and 29 voted Republican. That trend cut across racial lines: Young white men supported President Donald Trump overwhelmingly, but young Black and Latino men swung toward Trump by an even larger margin than their white counterparts from 2020 to 2024—even as majorities supported Harris.

Those losses have precipitated soul-searching on the left, as Democrats wonder how to revive their appeal to young men who are struggling financially but intrigued by the machismo promoted by Trump and media figures popular on the right. Republicans are “exploiting grievances” by connecting economic pressures to shifts in gender norms, said Shaunna Thomas, the co-founder and former executive director of the gender justice organization UltraViolet.

All the Dems have to say is: “It sure as hell wasn’t a Democratic woman President that got the country (and the world) to the point it’s at today, it was UNIVERSALLY "MEN" - AND (besides Barack Obama) UNIVERSALLY WHITE "MEN" (the worst being modern day REPUBLICAN WHITE "MEN")”

😑

Also:

Maybe get more young "men” to do a little self-introspection and study the history of “MAN’S inhumanity to MAN” (and women)???

🤔 😑 🤬

Bottom line:

The only thing worse than American "men" whining, is white American "men" whining.

😑

The only way to enlightenment, as I see it, is via education; given the current administration's educational aspirations, dems are going to have a hard time of things and the changes will come, inevitably, via the slower route of the young people (fluent in "internet") replacing the current bulk of older voters. These kids (mostly) aren't having pink fits about trans people, are steeped less in religious mores, know that furry bathrooms in schools aren't a thing, and are more invested in seeing a reduction in wild climate events by some kind of political intervention. Of course, there are those who are just clones of their god-bothering, poorly educated, bigoted parents and I suppose there always will be.

I'm certainly hoping the younger generations step up.

My two cents: I refuse to pay attention to the whole Israeli/Palestinian issue. They both disgust me. Get your acts together and stop fighting. I was probably more on the Palestine side until the attacks, and there is no excuse for that whatsoever. Rape? F off you pigs. You're both awful and shameful examples for the human race.

The Democratic party is a party of Corporatist elites led by wealthy people with only the slightest interest in the concerns of working and middle class people. There is a major disconnect between the leadership of the party and the people they think "should" vote for them. Until they develop a programme, particularly economic and social policies which appeal to the voting majority, they will achieve nothing. The policy areas to prioritize are bread and butter issues, cost of living, housing , education, health etc - moderate policies are required, those of both the left and right scare the voters. And Taxation fairness which terrifies all parties.

Virtually all the past Primary contenders are either too old, carry too much baggage, or are just not good enough. - that includes Harris.

Reform of and new leadership of the Democrats is the biggest longer term political problem currently facing the USA.

Hegseth's Army Chief says we have a man on the moon

an army soldier, no less!

*blinx*

Driscoll said: “As young Americans across the country get to see all of the amazing things that the army has done, whether it’s helping with floods in North Carolina or wildfires in California, or, we talked to an astronaut yesterday who’s on the moon who’s a soldier.”
Since no American has been on moon since 1972, more than one X user replied, “What?!” Many are trying to figure out if Driscoll misspoke or if “he knows something that we don’t know.” And more are leaving snarky replies including, “‘Never left’ is the Moon Landing Conspiracy we’ve all been thirsting for.”

either he bolloxed up the interview and meant to say on the ISS, or he actually thinks America has a soldier on the moon. The latter is shit scary.
