███████████ Impeachment Proceedings On Donald Trump ███████████

Trump's attempt to protect himself among Republicans by pulling Pence into his crime (he did it all too with Ukrainians, so if you throw me out, you have to throw Pence out, and you get left with Pelosi as president) can be used by the Democrats as a path forward (and no less by any Republicans who want to save their party). Impeachment is a political issue; it can be invoked or not, as deemed advantageous. I'm sure Pence can see that Trump's trying to throw him under the bus.

Democrats can do a deal with him and the Republicans in Congress--Trump has made you impeachable. We're impeaching him definitely. You get to choose if we impeach you too. We can just not do so and let you take the presidency for now if 1. More than enough Republicans in Congress vote to remove Trump (which they'd really like to do anyway); 2. You don't pardon him for anything; 3. You replace Barr with a professional; 4. You give some cooperation on moving legislation for the next year (which should suit most Republicans too and put them back on the road to acceptability among the electorate); and 5. You don't run in 2020. That leaves the Republicans free to come up with a "recovery" slate for 2020. Some combination of Haley/Weld/Romney maybe and start to put Republicans back on the road and return Congress to a normal balance of power condition--and not leaving them entirely out in the cold if Democrats take over both houses.

None of us win if the Democrats just take over Congress and act like Republicans have been doing for years. A deal can be done to get us beyond the Trump nonsense era. Most Republicans can just disown him as a bull-in-the-china-shop interloper.

The last fishing expedition (which, not incidentally, is still limping along in the House, mortally wounded) took two and a half years. Dumbs are going to ask every human being who has ever talked to Trump or may have talked to someone who talked to Trump, or lived near someone who may have talked to someone that talked to Trump every single thing they can think to ask. The point is to scream, "OBSTRUCTION! It's not the (non)crime, it's the coverup!!"

Again.

"You're gonna need a bigger boat."

Nobody that matters, cares.

hillary's emails and benghazi seyz wat?

I don’t entirely agree, but it’s not a terrible strategy. Don’t forget protecting our elections.

I think there needs to be some sort of reckoning for everyone who brought us to this point — a group which BTW includes Nikki Haley, who served in the freakin' Trump administration. Why she's always lumped in with those who aren't complicit has always been a mystery to me. "Former Member, Trump Administration" should be a scarlet letter attached to their names for the remainder of eternity. America has to have a second sane major party, but the Republican Party as we have known it is a threat to democracy and needs to be burned to the foundation.

There is going to be a lot of pressure put on Democrats to have a Kumbaya moment and let bygones be bygones after all this is over. I think that would be a mistake in both a moral and a political sense. I think back to Obama's early days as president, when the decision was made that in the interest of "unity," we weren't going to talk at all about what/who caused the financial crisis and what sort of punishment was merited. The result was that the tycoon class hated Obama anyway, and that the populism that always flares up during a depression became rightwing rather than leftwing rage. Obama played the media's "you must heal us" game, and spent the next 8 years paying for it.

The post-apartheid truth commissions in South Africa are a good model. We can talk about forgiveness after the criminals have confessed.

I don't see where Haley let herself be tainted with the Trump sideshow corruption and criminality. Maybe it's there. But I think she kept herself pretty clean with voters and left early and on her own terms.

Dumping Trump as I outlined leaves him completely open to all of the ongoing legal investigations and charges. And, yes, he should be drawn and quartered. Then pretty much everyone else but Pence will be open to "whatever" prosecution too. Certainly Barr and others for contempt of Congress as the minimum. Pence would be belled and if he started being obnoxious, the lingering Trump association charges are always there waiting in the wings. I think his goosed is cooked anyway.

It simply isn't going to be a "go," though, for Trump and Pence to be cleared out and Pelosi get into the White House. Any scenario of getting rid of Trump is going to have to include succession to Pence (or, Agnew style, Pence going first and a less-tainted VP appointed before Trump goes) and Pence nominating a VP standin until the 2020 elections. The Democrats must look to some accommodation short of Trump/Pence going together that brings the country back into a "well, that's not too bad" state.

Given that there's precedent for this actually happening, this may be the most accurate thing you said in this thread.

Presumably, you are referring to the impeachment of Bill Clinton. There is neither similarity nor connection. Everybody in the country knew Blow Job Bill had committed a felony, and the question was whether or not that crime constituted a "High crime or misdemeanor." Personally, I thought it did not, and the Senate also thought that way.

In the case of Trump, there is doubt as to whether he even committed a crime, let alone a "High crime or misdemeanor."

The point is, news like this upsets Deplorables like you, and that's good for our country. :)

I’m not upset in the least. Just pointing out that opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. In your opinion I’m a deplorable and in my opinion you’re incapable of independent thought, just another authoritarian socialist comrade.

Yeah, if they can get their hands on the server, which is only supposed to have national security not political stuff, they’ll probably find lots of gold.

If they can't = obstruction.

No-win scenario for 45.

This is one of the reasons you sometimes hear people chanting "Lock her up" when referring to Silly Hilly. :(

Dems still haven't voted to begin an actual impeachment proceeding yet? Why nit?

Because they don't spend their time on a porn board being second-guessed by Deplorables.

Also because the House, on the whole, is on two-week recess. Could Conager get any more stupid?
