Had an idea this morning that had nothing to do with vampires (girl starts spending time with a group of goblins, making love and having fun. The leader asks if she’ll invite them into her village. But it’s not a trick, she lets the girl know exactly what the goblins will do and when the girl is at her lowest point she invites them in)

But I like the idea of Vampires that need to be invited. There’s this wonderful bit of consent in that especially if the vampire’s target knows what the invitation will allow.

One idea:

Young mother is becoming dissatisfied with her life. Her husband doesn’t do his share and stopped seeing her sexually after they had their second kid. Mother in law belittles her and does too much of the parenting, to the point the kids wind up going to her with anything they need.

One day she meets a gorgeous woman, the type of free spirit she dreamed about being in her teenage years. They hit it off and even have an affair but MC breaks it off when she misses one of her children’s appointments. However this quick bit of maternal instinct quickly fades as reality sets back in and soon she finds herself seeking out the woman who she finds covered in blood walking along the road.

Woman is very open about it: she’s a vampire. She wanders around drinking her fill but she wants to have a partner in crime. MC of course is shocked and thinks she’s crazy but even covered in blood the woman ignites the feelings she had for her. She asks why woman just doesn’t take her and the woman responds: you have to invite me in.

Woman leaves and MC tries one more time to be a good mother but she slowly collapses again. She then tries to invite the woman in at hotels or have her sneak in through the backdoor but the woman clarifies: she’ll only come in once she’s invited through the front door.

MC finally gives in. She takes her kids to her mother-in-laws house, hubby is already out with his friends and she invites the woman in through the front door.

Edit:

2. Nerdy girl or guy is both intimidated and fascinated by a new person who moved into town. The new person is unlike most of the town, various other romance cliches, and MC can’t help but…well, stalk them would be a bit too harsh but definitely follows them around.

People start going missing and MC realizes the new person was around them before the disappearance. But a call to the cops does nothing. However new person starts noticing them. They don’t threaten but they do become flirtatious and possibly even seduce them, but when they come to MC’s house they ask to be invited in, which tips the nervous nerd that something is up.

I think it would be extra fun if MC lives with their parents and parents invite the new person in but the new person then asks MC if they’ll invite them in to their room. Maybe even have some dialogue like

“I mean, my folks said you’re welcome to treat our home like it’s yours.”

“Oh I know, I know…but I was to hear YOU say I can come in. It just makes things a lot nicer for both of us”

3. Cheerleader invites new girl to her home to help her with a class project. New girl is thankful and asks for a ride, which MC grants and then New girl notes how smooth MC’s legs are and asks if she can touch them cheerleader laughs and says sure, but then shivers as new girl runs her hand over her thighs.

While she should be shocked, she feels her blood racing and her own eyes are drawn to new girl’s figure. Eventually she has to pull off the road and they work on the project at the library. New girl slows down but she does get permission to touch cheerleader’s back and begins rubbing her spine in a way that doesn’t help things.

Project done new girl then asks if they are going to MC’s house. MC reluctantly agrees and drives there but when MC goes inside, new girl lingers outside. MC is physically desperate to want new girl to come in with her but is socially shocked about being openly seen lusting over a girl that just moved into town.

New girl then says “Can you invite me in, can I come inside?”

And lingers at the door frame, loosening a button on her blouse when she catches MC looking and moving her lips in close but not crossing the threshold and Mc swears she she sees fangs but her mind is focusing more on what she wants to do with those gorgeous lips

About the goblin one, goblins are sometimes considered fae, and fae can have weird rules. So it isn't too out there for goblins to need to be invited in. Heck, there is some lore about demons and devils that says that a possession can't happen unless someone has invited them in. So it's not just vampires that it applies to. It's just the most well known.

Hmm... It'd be fun to see a story set up in such a way as to have everyone thinking it's a vampire only to find out that it's a different kind of predatory being, like a demon or a fae.

To me at least, it would be funny to have the predatory fae think the accusation of vampirism hilarious, because "obviously" vampires aren't real.

I always assume that vampires drinking blood is a thinly veiled metaphor for taking someone's virginity. Having to be invited into a home is therefor a thinly veiled metaphor for inviting them into your pussy! Meaning they can't take you by force, but need to romance you, before sucking the life out of you.

I'm not sure if that has any application to this thread, but it seemed related!

Yeah, I stuck to more sapphic examples but I did realize that it could be consent for a guy (or woman or nb with a cock) to come inside

I don't (really) consider myself a vampire, rather a witcher werewolf (God's Dog, the kind that predates the vampire legends by many centuries and is rather connected to shamanism practices of berserker battle mages), but I'm definitely not baptized and I do employ this rule -- that I must be explicitly invited at door by someone inside -- to enter Christian church when that's in use for service or ritual.

That invitation at the door is ridiculously easy to obtain, even from complete strangers. In fact, in almost all cases it goes so naturally it's unnoticed by anyone, not even the person providing the invitation.

But sometimes someone do take notice. Once, it was a pretty girl who invited me in, noticed what she's done and giggled about it, that I might be a vampire. It became a conversation starter and we sort of dated for the next two years... while she was in sexual relations with no less than three men at the time, none of whom were me... but there was one stormy night at the end, right before she went off to college in another city. And years later she invited me to her wedding, to my astonishment, to take her down the aisle to a guy who turned out to be my friend from elementary school, not meet since.

On that note, maybe the main character knows the other is a fae/vampire/demon. They invite them into the house, to which the fae looks quizzical, not understanding.

When they dive into the sheets the fae finally stops, just before penetration. "Aren't you going to invite me in? This is the one door we can't go through without permission."
