Delays with story postings this week?

I submitted a story almost a week ago, and haven't gotten a accept/reject yet - was wondering if anyone else was having this happen (maybe there were a lot of stories submitted?) or if it got lost in space somewhere and I should poke them in a day or two.

Anyone?

At this point, you're lucky if you've even gotten any views on it. I've had one submitted for five days and not a single view. Just means they're backlogged and it'll be a while before many/any new stories go up.

The standard wait, last I heard, was a week and a half to two weeks.

A week and a half to two weeks? Jeez - most times mine post within 4 days-ish. Thanks for the response, though. I was just worrieid my story had been eaten by the internet monster or something. Hehe.

Usually I wait until one story has posted to submit another, if they're this backlogged maybe I should submit the next one now... hehe...

I shouldn't say that two weeks is the standard, but it seems to ebb and flow. Things also slow down when the site hosts a contest and we're smack dab in the middle of the Nude Day Contest, so it's probably contributing to the slow down.

If I were you, I'd just submit whatever you had and not wait for each one to go through. As far as I understand it, they go through the stories as they arrive, so it shouldn't matter if you have several in to them at once.

It's hard to wait, I know, but I don't think your stories are floating about the boundless connects of the internet world. I think we're just stuck waiting and biting our nails.

p.s. Welcome to the Author's Hangout. I haven't seen you around before. Stay a while and enjoy!

Hehe, waiting and biting nails indeed.

The reason I like to wait between submitting is so that I have a little time to catch feedback and mull over the response to each story individually, otherwise it sort of blends together in my head.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been submitting stories for quite a while but have only been on the boards on and off, and never came around here. I'm thinking of getting more serious about my writing though and maybe trying to get published so I will probably be lurking quite a bit more.

*grin*

Well this is the place to de-lurk and get some info if you're looking to get more serious about writing. Several AH regulars are published authors and are always quite helpful at answering questions from the up and coming authors in the bunch.

Bust onto the scene and get to know everyone. It's a great free resource with a pretty friendly attitude and has helped me immensely.

If you're looking to get some hard core critique and ideas on how your writing is received, you should check out the Story Feedback Forum as well as the Story Discussion Circle.

Yeah, I've been around the story feedback board a few times.

As for getting serious about my writing, I'm a student, so summer is the time... hehe... I happen to have landed a job where I can sit around and write for most of the time, so it's ideal.

Bedtime for me - thanks for the info :)

I've seen other threads about this same phenomenon, and it happened to me as well.

I hit the pending link and found myself looking at the submit a story page, complete with the little check box for agreeing to the posting terms.

I scrolled down and clicked the submit button again, because I had had NO views at all, and I suddenly had the conviction that the thing had never actually been submitted due to a malfunction of the "submit" button itself.

When I did that, it developed 6 views in a day's time or less.

So I guess it hadn't submitted.

The NEXT story still has zero views. I hit the pending link and submitted again after two days, and it STILL has zero views a day later. Late tomorrow, I will "submit" the thing a third time.

I have PMed Laurel about the difficulty, she says she believes it to be a tech problem at this time. She has referred it to Manu, she says.

If this is the difficulty you are referring to (and it sounds that way to me), you may wish to re-submit in the way I describe.

In the meantime, it's been reported, once. Perhaps you ought to take the time to report again. Mention a specific story for which the problem exists. I'd suggest Manu, rather than Laurel.

I had zero views as of yesterday morning, but then was suddenly surprised to get feedback, and found that my newest was posted later in the day. It only took about five days. Other times it takes seven. I have never had a problem with waiting longer than a week. But perhaps I simply submit at the right hour, if there is such a thing?

Who knows :D

The stories I have submitted usually take between 5 to 7 days to get published. My last submission had 0 views after 5 days, and I like others, was wondering if it had gotten lost in the internet jungle . . . lol. It was published on the 6th day. I'm guessing some delays are due to the large volume of stories being submitted.

got the solution

The "SUBMIT" function mis directed the stories.

The problem should be a thing, literally, of the past:
originally a PM from Laurel, snipped for clarityHi again!

Manu and I think we figured things out. We seem to have had a glitch around the 4th or so that caused another problem. It looks like that glitch also affected a number of stories that were submitted during that time frame. These stories, though the author hit "SUBMIT", weren't actually pushed into the pending queue where I could see/approve them - hence the delay and the lack of views.

The problem was fixed, and seems confined to the stories that were submitted during a specific time period about a week or so ago. If your story is one of those, please try opening it and hitting SUBMIT again. This should register a view. If it doesn't work after a couple of tries, let me know!

If you could pass this on to anyone else you know who has this problem, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again, and take care!

There's another thread in the Story Ideas board, and I'll repeat this there, as well as start a new thread with it. Stay cool.
