Do you share with friends and family that you read, post, or write for Lit? Or do you keep it mostly to yourself?

Currently, no one else knows that I do this. Sometimes I would like to share, but I also like the private and anonymous aspect of it. I couldn't imagine my friends or family reading about what's in my dirty little mind!

How about you?

You might be suprised, all the friends I have told have asked for the address, including my wife who is 1500 miles away at the moment and coming for Xmas!

I know some of my friends have looked in, can't identify any as having posted, yet.

My wife knows. Our friends, their daughter and her boyfriend know. I don't think anyone else does . . .

Yes, no, kind of.
It's not like I bring it up in casual conversations. She knows (well, duh), some friends or ours, one who is trying to write her own stuff now.

And those who know know me well enough not to mention it to those who would erase me out of their will if they found out. ;)
 
Nobody

Nobody knows I do this. Not even the wife. I haven't figured out how to broach the subject. I don't think she'll have a problem with it, but she can be a little closed-minded at times.

First we need to get our sex life back to normal. She just had our first baby (yay!) and is nowhere near normal. It was a very rough delivery so it may be 6 months or more before we are back to normal, and I don't want to spring THIS on her until then. I don't want her thinking that lack of sex is driving me way from her, you know?

Other than her, I don't know who I might tell. I'm the sickest person I know, and I'm not that sick. All my friends are way too straight-laced. I'm left with yu people for support. :)

When I was in the military, I held a clearance. That was when I learned the concept of "Need to Know." I only tell those that "Need to Know." Besides I write for me. Sometimes I share my poetry. But not very often.

My brothers and sister-in-law know and are glad for me.

My sons do not know.

My closest friends know.

My priest friends do not, though I told one Franciscan monk.

"Mum, you know how I used to love writing years ago? Well I've started again.. and guess what kind of stories I write?" :eek: , I've already managed to make her go grey prematurely, telling her I write dodgy stories would send her to an early grave.

My bf knows but I've sworn him to silence, I'm hoping it stays that way.
 
Some of my friends and my wife know that I write for Literotica.

None of them have been told what my Lit name is but some have guessed.

Don't be too sure. I could be your brother and you wouldn't know the first thing about it. If you don't tell, assume that there are others like you....

I'm with you, this stuff is a need to know thing. I use it occasionally for conversation shocker with some of our old school friends, but for the most part it's not something I talk about it.

All my friends online pretty much all know, but only one person I go to school with knows. A few of my family members that would go and vote know. My mother-in-law knows (hard to explain why you won't let her edit your work anymore if you don't tell her why, LOL). Besides that, it's a need-to-know clearance.

I have a rep to protect... ROFL

No can't tell a soul, I'm typing this in the garden shed and I have tin cans on string outside to warn me if anyone comes near the place, unlikely because I had it built in the middle of a field, but you never know. Blodwyn's also standing guard with her friends.:D

Ok I'll come clean, I think the wife knows by now, my two boys certainly know almost everything, 21 & 19 yr old's they helped me with encouragement and proof reading during NaNo. Our 13 yr old daughter knows I play at something on here by the way I minimise the window the instant she comes near the screen, it's become a game, 'see if I can creep up on dad unheard'. Little darling knows about NaNo and I let her read a few less spicey paragraphs to shut her up, bless.:D She's all proud of me for completing it by the way.

We don't do many secrets in our household, secrets lead to big fallout when the truth eventually comes out, as it always does one day, forewarned is forearmed.

Several friends know and approve, two remote family members know and approve, the rest don't need to know and probably wouldn't be too interested anyway.

I too was involved with the military and signed the official secrets act, we quickly learned it caused less hassle if you let people know just enough to shut them up, if not enough to wreck anything. Much quieter life without someone looking over your shoulder trying to catch you out.

Some more than others

My hubby proofreads for me. His sister thinks it's great. I've told my favorite cousin about the website and that I post here, but not what my penname is. I'm afraid to tell my half-brother, because he might get the wrong idea and go wierd on me. My parents have seen me scribbling madly in notebooks since I was 14 (16 years ago). They know I write and post my writing on the net, but not what I write about.

I have friends who I would loose forever if they knew my mind contains what it does. I have other friends who know and don't approve, but still love me anyway. Then there are the people (men) who would love to know, but would ask too many questions, and end up going strange like my brother would. So I tell anyone who is interested and wouldn't be bothered by it, but guard my words otherwise.
 
As I'm sure Perdita knows,

Most priests and people in holy orders know human nature quite well, and are not surprised by much. Priests hear things in confession that would probably curl our hair, but it's part of their job to stay calm and non-condemning.

Perdita's friend may have been a little surprised, but I doubt he freaked out.

I hope you're not angry that I took the liberty of expounding on your post, Perdita.

Probably mostly because I think people may go all weirdo on me. Just because I write a fantasy doesn't necessarily mean I want to do it in real life, so don't want it to be taken the wrong way.

Also, this is very new to me, and finally just worked up the courage in feedback area to post a partly written story for feedback. For the first two stories I posted them and thought to hell with it, love it or hate it.

So, eventually may build up the courage to mention it to a boyfriend ...
 
Hmmmmm, not many

My wife know's, she reads everything I wirte and usually enjoys it. (I think she's glad I expend some of my energy here and not in bed.:devil: ) Other than her? One of my co-workers. He's read several of my stories, including those that aren't here. He's more open minded than most though. (He brings them home for his wife to read as well, then usually comes in the next day looking pretty worn out.)
 
Well, my husband knows; he reads all my stuff before I submit it, and it can...ahem...lead to things. He's not all that thrilled with the Feedback I get though, especially when I had my picture posted too. My boys are too young to know (6 and 7); they'll probably always be too young to know - ha!

Two of my good friends (female) know; one knows the website and my pseudonym; the other knows neither. One of my male friends knows; I directed him to the website but won't tell him my user name.

My two sisters know I write erotica and post it on the web somewhere. I wouldn't tell them about Lit or my user name. I wouldn't tell my brother anything.

Nobody is too surprised; they all know I'm an aspiring romance writer and I'm a tech writer, so basically I'm writing all the freakin' time!

But that's as far as the circle is gonna go!
 
Thanks for all the thoughtful responses everyone... all the different perspectives are very interesting.

There are definitely times when I want to tell people about it... like my friend who is interested in writing. I told her about NaNo and she asked me where I'd heard about it, but didn't want to tell her about Lit because she is pretty conservative. I also find myself wanting to talk about my online friends a bit (for example telling my mother that I know someone who loves Colin Firth as much as she does) ;) , but then I would have to explain "where" I know these on-line friends from. :rolleyes:

I could probably tell my husband and may someday... he would probably enjoy the stories, even though they are not about him. But part of me likes having this anonymous persona all to myself...

Some of my friends know. Some of them don't. I'd be less inclined to tell those that would be shocked by my AmPics thread. That's the main reason why more of my friends don't know.
