Many emotional disorders were first identified as being specific to the female gender, hysteria being one such disorder.

In recent years, environmental illness is a disorder also primarily found in North American women between the ages of 35-50.

I've always thought that health is related to happiness and that women prone to bouts of irrational, hysterical behavior are simply unhappy with their lives.

An elementary theory, but when you look around Lit, you can pretty much ID the unhappy bitter women without too much trouble, which leads me to believe that bitchiness is a symptom of an unwell female psyche.

What are your views?

Equal opportunity

There's plenty of bitter unhappy men around, too. It's hardly confined to one gender.

My opinion is that going to the dr's office should get you vibrated to an orgasm, just like they did in the olden days to quiet the so called "female hysteria".

And just how often would you need to be "cured" ;)

My views are the women were so suppressed by men that their dissatisfaction and lack of options manifested itself in ill health.

Now, I see more men who have that problem and women who are going out and taking the world by storm.

Of course there are all those men who are pissed that women found themselves and try to keep them down. I think in many cases they are called Doms.

Female hysteria leads to communication that seems negative.

Male hysteria leads to violence - sometimes outrageous violence.

I'll take the female hysteria in our society anyday.

Sometimes I want to have hot lesbian sex with ksmybuttons.

I am riding this bandwagon.:D

Really? Such as what? Most medical researchers didn't use women until recently. I'm not doubting you - I'm just surprised.

Sometimes being is bitch is all a woman has. (great quote from a great movie Deloris Clayborne)

I blame it all on hormones myself. I've never had PMS, never even believed in it. I thought it was just a bunch of whiney women. Then pre menopause hit. There are days when I NEED to carry a gun. That's all I'm saying.

Congrats! That's the most stupid and ignorant statement I've read on the boards for a while!

For the record, they're called chauvinists.

I think ksmybuttons was responding "in kind" to Lance. Lance used his typical "let me test their trigger" tactics. ksmybuttons simply responded in kind. To point out her statement like this without addressing the lunacy that was Lance's post is a bit contradictory, in my opinion.

It also exemplifies that it is a trigger topic to you. Now that you realize your reaction when you see others pointing this out, maybe you can understand why others on this board may not be completely 100% rational and sweet on other occasions.

If you relate this behaviour to menstrual cycles, then you may have a point. I am not so sure about hysteria, though...depression - yes...bitchiness - yes...but bitchiness cannot always be equated with hysteria.

BTW...have I told you how happy I am lately...does my hysteria seem less pronounced now?

First of all, whether or not she was responding "in kind" to Lance is not certain, as you yourself had to preface your post by stating "I think." Therefore, the correct way to respond is by addressing that part of her post that I disagreed with. I did not address her entire post as there was nothing as ignorant about it. I chose to refute the part that I disagreed with, ableit, with some degree of sarcasm.

There is more than enough ignorance on the topic and I think pointing out the ignorance of her post was better than letting even one person think that is what BDSM is about.

I had a similar situation on Svenskaflicka's marriage thread. I didn't see the need to bash women just because I thought she was bashing men. To me, that is an immature method of debate.

As for it being a trigger topic, you're absolutely wrong. I love discussing the topic of BDSM. Her ignorance was the trigger, not the topic. How many times have you jumped all over Frimost for his Chauvanistic posts? Is Feminism a trigger topic for you? If so, Now that you realize your reaction when you see others pointing this out, maybe you can understand why others on this board may not be completely 100% rational and sweet on other occasions.

*shrugs*

Lance is just being manipulative again. Whoopee. If he had any actual interest in this as an actual topic, there would be some thought behind it instead of his usual misogynistic blather.

Aren't you cute, LP. Freud would love to throw you onto his couch.

Reading Lances threads is like going to see the Beach Boys. Maybe they dont sound exactly the same but its the same songs year after year.

Unhappiness

Yeah, well... In men, the condition sometimes manifests itself as the disgruntled postal worker syndrome. I'd pick hysteria anytime.
