metal_minx said:yes i did know that...but since this place is about sex did you know that only two species have sex for fun? humans and dolphins....go figure![]()
riff said:
Actually, the bonobo chimpanzee has sex for pleasure too. They even have gay chimps.

Did you know that human DNA and chimpanzee DNA are more similar than chimpanzee DNA and gorilla DNA?
Draw your own conclusions....
LMAO (I amuse myself, yes...)
metal_minx said:
not quite...bonobos use sex as a way of maintaining social harmony and reinforcing bonds the way chimps use violence...just a different approach...interesting though they are the only other land mammal that has sex face to face though...as for "gay" chimps there are records of other species having same sex relations its not the same as with the human species.... female bonobos are the leaders of the groups and they often bond with sex just as the rest do...they have sex with juvenile bonobos, old, male & female...it has less to do with pleasure than social bonds

Seems to me that the same observation could be made for the human species! And how do you know why Bonobos have sex?

Then you should know not to anthropomorphize animal behavior.
metal_minx said:
ahem...all in spirit of the thread
and where did i anthropomorphize?
CoolidgEffect said:
I don't believe you can assign "fun" to an animal behavior. Anthropomorphize might be the wrong word, but fun or pleasure is something we can not accurately assess.
For example: the dominate female is having sex for fun with young and old, male and female.
How can you truly measure her "fun factor?"
More likely the dominate female is haveing sex with young and old, male and female to express/maintain her dominance.
metal_minx said:
i only said dolphins had sex for "fun" not the bonobos..i was arguing that and if you read on behavior in wild dolphins most scientists agree that the sex is for "pleasure" because the animals doing it are of all ages & ranks and dont follow any patterns of dominance when it comes to partners and they use more violent means to achieve social status..whether the sex as more or less to do with that i'm not sure but i do know that the research shows dolphins have sex out of season and several times a day, most likely to enforce social bonds but not dominance

Hey, your right! You'll have to take me out back and shot me. It was riff that said that Chimps have sex for fun. Oops I am sorry, my humble appologies.
Damn I wish I was a Dolphin.
Just think if we had evolved from them instead of the monkey tree. We'd all be peace loving liberals that have sex to bond friendship rather that enforce dominance. Plus we'd all be really great swimmers and have really cool boats.
