Erotic Fantasy art, so what?

Instead of going and getting a life this weekend, I did this instead.

Actually I just drew it. If I had actually DONE it I guess I would feel quite accomplished... I would also be a trio of differently moraled blue fairies.

My question is basically: so what? It was sort of fun to do, fun to look at for a couple of minutes but what makes it worth a weekend? How do I use it to pay the bills, increase my feeling of self worth or find and woo my soul mate? It seems in quite the wrong direction for any of these things.

WARNING: The content is lesbian ravishment so don't view it if you feel it would be injurous to you in some way.

It's beautiful. If I had drawn it I would definitely feel a boost in the ego department.

Do you sell any of your art?

I can't really comment too much, it's Sunday, the end of the weekend, and all I've accomplished is clearing the dishes.

Thanks, that helps :)

No its just a hobby. Not really sure where I would sell it. I suspect fantasy art is as hard to get published as a novel, but I have never investigated.

Anyone have any info in that direction?

I'm not sure why you feel that way. Didn't you get any sense of joy or fulfillment from creating it? If you did, then it was worth your time. Art need not be lucrative to be worthwhile.
When I write the stories I post here, I don't expect any great reward for them, I am happy if I get even a small amount of praise. The main point of writing them is that the process of doing so puts me in touch with a part of myself that goes unexpressed otherwise. The sense of self discovery I get is worth the effort. I can't imagine that you didn't feel a bit of that yourself.
Look again at your own work. Why did you pick the subject matter, and what does that choice tell you about your feelings about women? about your own sexuality? Why did you choose each pose, each color. Think about these choices, where they came from, and what that might mean about yourself. That is the path to fulfillment as an artist, I believe.
In any regard, thank you for sharing. If you have more art to show us, you will find an appreciative audience, I'm sure.

That is some kick ass work bud ever give tattooing a thought..You are definitly very talented:)

What a lovely pic! The coloring job is gorgeous. Accolades!

If I ever publish a fantasy novel, I'm going to look you up to do the cover!

If you build a portfolio of similar work, I'd think you've got a good chance of finding a niche as a cover artist for fantasy/Science fiction novels. Finding an author that likes your work and can push to get you for the cover artist/illustrator would be a bonus but inquiries to publishers about cover art should give you an idea of what your chances are.

Quite an amazing bit of work. Beautifully balanced, great composition... Any more to show us?

Want to illustrate a book of erotic poetry?

You probably have a life.

I got a couple of hours of fulfillment out of it.

I know what the picture means because I always paint the same one on some level, at least when it is for my own tittlation. The central character is as overwealmed as I can draw her. The others are fixated on her beauty and her helpless pleasure. I am between voyeur and the woman being ravished. As voyeur I get confirmation of women having a sexual side that is not shown in real life. As woman I am somehow a valuable commodity that I am not as a man. Even my pleasure is somehow a commodity. The non-consent implications remove any need to fumble through asking for what I want from disinterested or distainful people and also implies pleasure so exaggerated that you have to be held against it.

The fairies are totally in control. they cannot be hurt deliberately or by accident. Saying the wrong thing will not traumatise them. Scary yet loving rather than delicate and judgmental. They will force me to trust and finally admit love for them...

It is a reversal of reality and does not change because I am not growing in real life.

Yes, I have already psychoanalized it all.

Sure:)

It would be fun to get something published. That is something I have not done. I could be enthused to do it for free, or just for enough money that I could say I was paid for it.

Exploring other peoples ideas (eg for illustration) also interests me although I suspect I am often just looking for people that think like me.

Possibly, but I am not good at commitment. ;)

I had a site for a while. All black and white and mostly rough pencils. This is the the only other finished one.

I did it for the homepage of someone called Cat's Sara and is based on their Julia tale. They redesigned their site recently (less blacks :) ) and are no longer using it.

Thanks. It is severely cropped although the rest of the picture is just getting darker above and bluer below. I had to fit it into 800x600.

The blue background is to make the faries fit in, and they are blue falsely implying a coldness of personality that is denyed by the action.

Peterpan,

Your work is incredible. I love erotic artwork! It wasn't really something that would turn me on, but as a piece of art it was great. Everyone else has already given specifics, so I won't go into them. BTW the second one was really interesting too

Exceptional work, peterpan. What program do you work in?

Would be great to see more samples if you have them.

Wow

That's incredible. You really ought to get that published somewhere... That's really just as good as a lot of professional stuff I've seen. I'm sure you could get paid to do book covers or comic book art or something.

Sigh. Yeah, not really the way to impress a girl on a first date, more a matter of how late in an honest relationship should you admit it. (but you noticed the second one :) that separates you from the 90% that go straight from the header to the reply. congrats! ;) )

Both were done in photoshop, Tropism.

It is probably difficult making money in illustration, because so many people do it for fun. But does anyone here know any good people to approach?

Or advice on finding a soul mate :)

Hmmm, yes, perhaps I should give that a proper investigation. I am not seriously interested in making a living this way, but it would be a feather in my cap.

Interesting.

I am afraid you will never win me over on that one. After all, is it worth me putting another ten hours into it so that you can tell me it is 'nice'? I don't think so.

Thank-you, and no problems.

There is also another image, falldownchair.jpg somewhere in this thread.
