Just curious I see lots of Comic characters splaid out in sig lines and avatars.

Are you an avid comic book collector/reader are you still reading? Which comic book company do you favour and who are your favourite characters?

oh, yeah.
not a collector, though.
but i have a few titles im faithful to, monthly.

I've read comics since 4th grade. Not so much anymore, but I still have hundreds of them and pull them out every once and awhile for a good read.

I have a collection somewhere around 5000 comics and graphic novels dating from 1974 to current date though I buy very rarely these days mostly graphics. The first book I ever read cover to cover was a comic book my dad used to by them for me so he could read them before I could read.

Which ones ?
The Walking Dead is my current fave.
a couple Batman titles.
(that new All Stars by frank miller is so fucking lame. i doubt i will buy anything he does for quite some time)
Preacher, of course.
Remains is my new favorite minni-series. (obviously, i love horror books. particularly zombies)
Way of the Rat is good, too.
The Authority.
Global Frequency was fucking brilliant.

I probably have over a thousand. Mostly marvel super hero books. I have some graphic novels.

I collected a lot through high school and college. It's something I would love to get back into. There was no better feeling in the world (well, until I discovered the fun of pleasuring a woman) than finding that back issue missing from your collection in some little shop off the beaten path.

the warren ellis run of the authority?

pick up nextwave when you get a chance.

Someone bought me the Encyclopedia of Marvel Comics. He is an avid comic book fan. I love some of the backstories, though not a comic book collector. The Phoenix series of the X-Men is still my fav.

Are you English? Canadian?

Avid comic book geek but the habit comes and goes. The Wonder Woman re-launch left a bitter taste in my mouth so I'm not reading right now.

DC
Catwoman

Every now and then a series grabs my attention. The Invisibles was sheer genius. I like Sandman, too.

katiebarthedoor,
I loved PADs Supergirl run.

Frank Miller has been struggling for the last few years. Ever since he did the sequal to The Dark Knight Returns.

I used to buy comics, but I stopped in'89 for financial reasons, and never picked it back up again.
I'm still a fan,though,even though I don't buy them anymore.

I don't think a week has gone by since 1963 that I haven't read a comic book. I don't throw them away when I'm done, but I don't think of myself as a collector. I've rarely bought back issues and never bought more than one copy of a comic. When the number gets out of hand, I sell off the chaff. I have about six thousand currently.

Catwoman has been one of the few reliable DC titles over the past couple of years.

My all-time favorite:

I used to pick up Spawn,Rust and obscure titles (anyone remember Rock N'Roll Comics?). Not much else seemed intriguing. My brother has an insane collection of 5000 comics. You should see how much people spend on supportboards and bags.

i plan on it.
i loved the stormwatch: team achillies/the authority crossover, too.
the midnighter fighting juko was one of the filthiest brawls in recent memory.

i dont fucking get that. the PAD Supergirl was so popular, and actually so well written...they cancelled it? seriously. what the fuck?

DK2 had its moments, but a sophmoric book still.
i was a huge fan of his Punisher: War Journal stuff, and his Spiderman.
i dont know who the fuck he thinks he is now. its actually kind of sad.

also, forgot to mention hiroki samuras Blade of the Immortal. go get it now.

to answer the original question, i'm a big marvel fan, though i love some vertigo titles.

stuff i follow:

y the last man
ex machina
runaways (these are all written by brian k vaughn, tho runaways is being taken up by joss whedon soon)
fables
astonishing x-men
new avengers
the new ms marvel is a good read
the civil war run is pretty good

from Image
noble causes
invincible

if you loved Preacher, Garth Ennis has a new series that is HILARIOUS, called The Boys

ellis described nextwave as the Authority without plot lines, logic, and sensible characters. it's a fun read.

Not for a long time. Now I'm more of a comic book movie/tv show fan.

The husband got me into it. I read Thunderbolts and Exiles from Marvel.

PAD is one of my favorite superhero writers, but I never read his Supergirl. It was probably cancelled as part of some Crisis or other. From what I hear, Fallen Angel is basically a continuation of what he was doing on Supergirl.

The Boys got cancelled, in case you hadn't heard. DC freaked out. But it is going to be picked up by another publisher. I love it when Garth Ennis pisses all over superheroes.

So many of my favorites have been cancelled or changed beyond all recognition lately. For a superhero fan, it's better these days to stay away from the monthly books and look for the good mini series and specials. But I always read Justice League and The Avengers so I can keep up with what's going on in the Marvel and DC Universes. A LOT of fucked up shit going on these days.

yeah, i boycotted civil war for months because i didn't like the way they were fucking with the characters. i also didn't like the fact that it was a total stunt to hook in readers for more books...but now i'm quite stuck into it.

wtf! why did they cancel the Boys? it was awesome, no less offensive than Preacher, and i'd argue that would have pissed off WAY more people.

you can really tell ennis hates superhero comics, eh?

Everybody knows that Wildstorm is a subdivision of DC and that it does superhero comics. Edgy superhero comics for sure, but capes and tights and fights, just like regular comics. The Boys, despite its incomprehensible covers, was a superhero book from the company that brings you Superman. The book was just too too much. Like Tony Rocky Horror, they should have better known fuckin' better.

The Boys would have worked at Vertigo, I guess, but it didn't really fit the Vertigo mold. ( Don't they have some "no superheroes" rule at Vertigo? ) The
Preacher even pissed me off a couple of times, and I'm mostly unpissoffable.

The only thing that really bugs me about Civil War is what the Marvel Universe will look like when it's over. They're pissing all over my childhood. If the story was better, I'd accept it, but Civil War just doesn't work. It relies on beloved characters behaving in unrecognizable ways, a suspension of disbelief that would give Hercules a hernia, and a willingness to pretend not to see the glaring plot holes. It's a cool story, but it should have been a What If? miniseries or something. An unmasked Peter Parker, a Nazi Tony Stark and a terrorist Steve Rogers just aren't part of any Marvel Universe I recognize.
