hard candy :

watched this today ... a very disturbing and well acted film which opens with some of the most uncomfortable 15mins of film i've ever seen

spoilers

without spoiling to much the plot is a 14 yr old girl entrapping a pedophile ... the start of the film is so uncomfortable because its starts with the 14 yr old and older man meeting and flirting with each other the guy seems fairly normal ... and it's done in such a way that it isn't trying to be creepy ... but because of that it's even more creepy

after the edgy start though the film gets even more interesting and more confusing having sympathy for the alleged pedophile isn't a nice feeling and i'll say one more thing ... audition :)

other films i've seen recently

imagine you and me :

a lesbian romanticom ... i like this film ... i think more films should encourage women to leave their husbands shortly after marriage and find a lesbian lover ... and remember just because you think you're happily married if you didn't have a mind blowing love at first sight moment you could be dumping your husband at any moment for another woman :)

da vinci code :

all i will say is surprisingly i thought it was ok and it was about a million times better than the book which sums up how poorly written the book is in my opinion

I wanted to see it bad, just never had the time when it was out here.

This one's on my to do list. I am looking at a gift certificate right now for a movie rental place around the corner.

i hated hard candy!

i knew someone would ... care to say why? ... i read some of imdb discussions (god what a horrible place) and what they came up with was they thought it wasn't realistic a 14yr old girl acting that way or they didn't like that the girl wasn't a nice person

it is probably overhyped a little ... it does have faults ... but it's still very worth seeing

.....

I enjoyed Hard Candy.

It was a complete psychologically thriller.

I rented Imagine you and me, but didn't watch it yet! LoL.

Isn't that kind of spoiling the biggest surprise in the movie?

One of my indie favorites was Me and You and Everyone We Know, with John Hawkes and Miranda July, who also wrote and directed it.

no really it happens within 15mins and it's implied on the cover and explained in the synopsis and showed in the trailer... i assume if you haven't seen the film and you don't want to know anything about it you'd not open the thread

it's kinda terrible but i really enjoyed it as a guilty pleasure ... and it probably is a bit better than "kinda terrible" :)

I actually didn't see it coming at all, so I think it's a surprise to a bunch of people who see it. Just a friendly suggestion: Maybe put "Spoilers" in bold just before the first post starts in. Whaddayathink?

Hard Candy...yeah it looks disturbing and alluring at the same time, like a car wreck you can't turn your eyes away from.

i added the spoiler tags but i still say its very unlikely someone would watch it without knowing that

i love Sam Shepard and Jessica Lange in Frances. they met on the set and are still together.

Hard Candy is worth seeing for sure, but it's a little bit like going swimming in the local pool. In other words: Don't eat within an hour of seeing it.

Yep, but what's the harm, right?

I can do you one better:
"The Woodsman"
This is a story about a pedophile and rapist who served his sentence already, and has been rehabilitated, but he's judged by society too harshly, which interferes with his job, marriage, and just generally his life.
Throughout the film we see flashbacks of past victims getting raped or molested in disturbing explicit detail.
You begin to feel sorry for the character, than you're angry at him, and your emotions conflict throughout the film.

This was a controversial short story which turned into a play that was almost never made.
Things were cut from the play, but they were brought back for the movie.

I didn't see it, but would side with the former pedophile.

yeah i've heard about that film ... it's one i've kept off my rental list though :) ... if i heard some really good recommendations though i'd watch it ... but if i'm going to watch something that is disturbing and difficult i like to be rewarded with something that is very well written and acted

I was wondering about this one. I just saw Broken Flowers. It's themeatically similar, no?

Oh, and The Woodsman - is that the one with Kevin Bacon?
