I saw an interesting sight yesterday walking through my local Wal-Mart. No this time it wasn't a "pervertable" ;). There was this young couple; probably older teens to early 20's dressed in their punk/Goth get ups (you know the look...LOL). She's wearing a collar and has these two short chain and leather leashes attached which he's holding onto, as they strut and prance around. They are both grinning ear to ear and giggling about the reactions they are getting.

Now as they pass me, I just look at them with no reaction, so I'm no fun. LOL. But I was thinking if they only knew, this 40ish woman they just passed, who looked them dead in the eye was wearing a collar that meant WAY more than the showy one she was wearing I'm sure. Plus they had NO idea what was hidden under the plain, everyday, unassuming clothing I was wearing.

They did raise quite a ruckus here in small town Tennessee. I found it much more amusing to know that the same people that were shocked by this couple's behavior would never know that the "necklace" I wore was actually a collar and I'm probably much more kinky than that young couple ever thought of being. LOL

Now here's the only problem I do have with their behavior, the setting they chose to "show off" in. Wal-Mart is a place where people take their young children to shop, so I felt that they were subjecting innocents to things that were not appropriate to be seen. Things parents shouldn't have to explain to their small children just because they took them to Wal-Mart.

If they wanted to go out to a club or party like that, No problem. Or even some other all adult venue, No problem. Well... ok maybe no problem... Thoughts?

They sound a little immature, but then I also find I think that about some who are in the 30's and 40's + age groups who discover BDSM or whatever blend they choose and become a little drunk on all the possibilities before they actually gain much knowledge and/or understanding. I find they are also the ones who do not usually stick with it once the novelty has worn off. Perhaps this couple fit that criteria, though I have found more and more from the goth community are fascinated and seriously interested in exploring our lifestyle for themselves. Like everyone, some take it seriously, some think of it as something new and naughty to use to raise eyebrows.

Catalina :rose:

That's my take on it too Catalina. From observing this couple, it appeared to me that they were out for the "shock 'n awe" which for me is a total turn off. Don't get me wrong, we've "played" in public, just no one but us knew it was going on. :D

Thanks for joining me. :rose:

They just wanted see how many "NORMAL" or what they perceive as normal people they could shock. They probably spent the whole night talking about the reactions and giggling. I could bet they have never had a crop wielded expertly upon soft pink flesh. ;)

Actually, it's a good object lesson for the small child and excellent teaching opportunity for a parent. "That is why i won't let you wear your [insert dress-up costume of choice here] when we go shopping. There are times and places for such outfits. Their parents either didn't teach them very well, or they ignored their home training."

You are probably right. That was my thought too. LOL.

While I agree it can be used as a teaching opportunity, most parents wouldn't be thinking that quickly on their feet in that particular situation I suspect. Most parents would be very upset that their "little ones" were exposed to such "perverted behavior" in the first place.

What gets me is that morons like these two cast a bad light on those of us who do practice this for real. They are the image that people see, and therefore make their judgements of BDSM as a whole based on what they perceive from the misinformation out there.

LOL I know what you mean. I've got this friend who's . . . well he's not the norm. He's got tattoo's on every available spot on his body. Spiders, black flags . . . etc. He's a sweety, though. One of the nicest guy's you'll ever meet. I often wonder what his reaction would be if he knew . . . I know he thinks of me as a typical suburban, stay at home mom. Maybe someday I'll shock the heck out of him.

I've shocked quite a few friends :D I always say, don't judge a book by it's cover. ;)

Same here. Frankly if someone looked at me and my friend I know who'd they guess is kinky, and it wouldnt' be me. But he's not. Frankly I don't see him much cause he developed on heck of a crush on me while K was basic, and I didn't want him to think that I was at ALL interested. (He's got a girlfriend now - thank God.) But if I were single and all that I still wouldn't have been interested, cause frankly he's sooo 'nilla, and he's entirely too nice for me. He's a good friend, though.

Too right, I know exactly what you mean. I have to wonder about the depths of human shallowness when people just have to throw themselves like that out to the general public. It's all a case of style over substance, I suppose. and to be honest, I would be more intrigued with the 40-ish year-old woman and her unassuming necklace than the two poseurs walking through Wal-Mart.

Good friends are good to have too... even if they are 'nilla ~shudders~ LOL.

Exactly! I wonder about that myself.

my biggest problem with this behavior was the place the two people chose to be. Walmart is a place that is visited by high schoolers, seninor citizens, adults, and children. i dont think that parents should be put in a position where they have to explain what is happening to a child before they are ready. i'm an Elementary Education Major, and also a submissive ,and i find this kind of disregard for others and lack of responsibilty on the part of the two people involved disgusting. I have nothing against public play a long as it is kept age appropriate and doesnt negativly affect or bother anybody else in the area.

That was one of my big problems too. However, I'm sure that these two were probably in no way BDSMer's but rather a couple of Goth and/or Punk wannabe's out to shock as many people as possible on a Saturday afternoon at the local Wal-Mart. Judging by the young "lady's" behavior she was the farthest thing from being a submissive as you can get, and the young "man" didn't ooze Domliness to me.

Ok Ok I'm being ugly now. Sorry. However, it royally upsets me that THIS is the images that vanilla people get to see and associate with our lifestyle. Not the reserved housewife, who'll turn into the wanton slut in the bedroom for her Master and beg for more when He uses a crop on her ass.

just a side post, not trying to hyjack your post...

the collar you wear everyday.. does it look like a steryotypical collar or like a necklace or something else seemingly vanilla?

Oh no problem, here's a picture of my collar. It's all leather.

edit to add: It looks like a necklace when I'm wearing it.

And....... who would that be, exactly? :D

I used to wear an anodized aluminum collar for everyday (until I developed an allergy to it). It doesn't look like a necklace, but it was still more understated than a regular collar. I had people ask me why I wore it, and I just told them that it was like a "promise ring" between me and my SO.

I agree with everyone who has posted so far. I see these types all the time (I live in CA, and work in retail). I sometimes laugh at the "BDSM" apparel that the teenagers/young people choose to wear. It brings out the stereotype of what "BDSM" supposedly is. These people probably have no clue what it is all about.

That is so gorgeous. I got a necklace to wear as a collar when need be, but I can't wear it all the time, it's not solid silver and I'm allergic to anything but silver, gold, or platinum. Since silvers the cheapest of those metals I wear it a lot. (I'm even allergic to surgical steel - it has nickel and nickel gives me SUCH a rash.) It's a double stranded choker with a blue butterfly hanging from it. It's gorgeous.

my Sir made mine. Its a charm in the shape of a heart that is made out of layered peices of metal and etched on the top. in between two of the pieces of metal he wrote "property of ***his name***". copper wire is twisted aroud the heart, forming a cage for the metal inside. i never take it off.
