I know you may find this a little immature or childish or whatever, but I still play videogames. However you inerpet that, I decided to make an RP based on one of my favorite videogame series Ace Combat. It is a game where you play as a pilot in some conflict on an "alternate Earth". It involves piloting various aircraft in different missions. Right now, I want to see if anyone will sign-up for it before I post the actual thing.

Setting: This takes on what could be described as an "alternate Earth". I a lot of ways it is Earth, just the arrangement of landmasses and names of countries are different. This world also has a tinge of realisitc sci-fi in it too. Tactical Laser Systems are a recent development for aircraft, but still in a very early stage. Larger chemical lasers are set on a massive complex that uses the weapon to shoot down craft from anywhere in the world using satellites. Another one is being developed for use on a huge orbital spacecraft nicknamed The Ark Bird. Too, war and most military conflicts are centered around the use of aircraft, rather than ground forces being the brunt of a country's military. Otherwise, it is basicly Earth.

Backstory: It is 19XX, the country of Belka had been in political and economic turmoil, and in order to deal with this, they let some of their eastern territories secede. The world superpower of Osea saw this as a money-making opportunity, and assisted the seceding territories in developing a pro-Osea government. This was fine for a time. But then an extreme right-wing politcal group comes to power in Belka. This new set of leaders find out about vast underground resources located in a heavily contested area called B7R, better known as "The Round Table". To capture these resources, Belka lauches a blitzkrieg to recapture the territories they previously lost. Such an act prompts the countries of Osea and Yuktobania to join forces and repel Belka. Such is the beginning of the Belkan War...

Story: The RP is about the many mercenaries who were hired to fight for the invaded country of Ustio, and the many characters they encounter. (Your characters do not have to be pilots, or sided with Ustio or any other country.)

Post your profiles here if you feel like joining.

Here's mine:
Name: Asriel Kalister

Age: 26

Nationality: N/A

Job: Mercenary pilot

Call sign: Calibur

Personal plane: F/A - 22A Raptor

Description: Standing somewhere around 5' 10" and having a slim athletic build (along with that name), Asriel is not a very imposing figure. But he makes up for it in his facial features. He is a young man, but the slight creases on his face show his experience in battle and the stress it puts on a person. His brown eyes seem to have a tinge of red in them, almost expressive of what he is like when in the sky. Yet, they are understanding and welcoming to those who are on the ground. His hair appears to now be permanently in a slightly messy state from wearing and removing his flight helmet so much.

Personality: On the ground, Asriel is pretty friendly and talkative person. He has been told that he has a slightly twisted sense of humor, but he is kind of funny to most people. Now, whether they are laughing with or at him, is subject of speculation. Also, he has a tendency to forget about personal space sometimes, and occasionally grabs/touches people or people's belonging without asking. Despite this rather friendly attitude, he becomes something much different when in the air. Asriel rarely speaks when flying, usually no more than a "Yes" or "No". His focus and mind become almost inhuman, and has been described as a Demon on more than one occasion.

Yeah, dude, like are you EVER gonna move out of your mother's basement and get a JOB already? :p

Nah, just joshing ya. I'm into CivIV and Rome: Total War myself. I think those Celtic screeching chicks are hot.

Good luck with your game...sounds like an interesting concept.

Oh, dear God! I played Ace Combat 3 Electrosphere, Ace Combat 5 The Unsung War, and want to get The Belkan War! If I weren't leaving for Great Britain this July 2 I'd be jumping on this thread like a tiger on a rabbit!

Too bad. Sorry.

Maybe it will still be here when you get back.

Could I serve drinks in a bar? Perhaps leader of an undergroud resistance? (or follower of one. . .)

Most likely the bartender is a better choice. Since there was no underground resistance or whatever. Just send me a PM of your character.

Name: Miranda Santos

Age: 24

Nationality: N/A

Job: Mercenary pilot (ex-Ustio airforce)

Call sign: Grave

Personal plane: F-15 Eagle, painted black with a white rampaging pegasus on the left wing. No further markings or identifications.

Description: A willowy silhouette standing 5'70" tall, Miranda is hardly an impressive sight if you look at her in the muscles department. Still, her figure is easily tough like a bamboo stick, her youth apparent. Blonde, her hair is in a bowl haircut style. Her eyes are a steely ice blue, and her visage is grim. The whole aura surrounding her is one of death and sadness, and at the same time mystery.

Personality: Humourless, sad, lonely... all the makings of an ice queen in any legend. This somber appearance, like that of a weeping widow, is probably owed to her past in the disbanded Ustio airforce, but the exact details of it are unknown, and nobody dares ask. Miranda looks fragile, but in the air she is probably the toughest member of the mercenary force. Never gives up, always has the mission objectives clear in her mind, and doesn't stray uselessly from them. What she lacks in social behaviour, she more than makes up for flying skills.

I've never played Ace Combat, so I checked out Wikipedia and the timeline says the Belkan War occurred in 1995. You pilot an F-22. Does that mean that when I make a character, and choose a particular fighter, I won't be restricted by the design's historical production date?

In addition, how faithful will we be to our aircrafts? Will we have to adhere to their performance and armament when choosing them? Do we get some leeway when comparing speeds and maneuvers accounting for our pilots' skills?

No restrictions on fighters. Anything short of an X-Wing or a flying saucer is okay when it comes to Ace Combat. I mean, they had a plane that carried a laser pod about the third the size of the plane and had a giant laser during the Belkan War.

When it comes to performance, I don't really have any restrictions. You can of course use hyperboles to describe maneuvers and such, but be try to reasonable. Reasonable like you can't fly in reverse, make ninety-degree turns on-the-spot, or pull Gs that would kill any living creature.

Also, thanks for clearing up the date-thingy.

All I have into account when posting about my Eagle, is the armament it can carry, and a fast comparison between its performance and my opponents'. Fuel and radar, I tend to ignore.

All this info, I get out of Wikipedia.

Okay, thank you, Rahzgriz, Katamari Roller! I hope this character is acceptable then.

Name: Luisa Sta. Vianna

Age: 22

Nationality: Ustio

Job: Mercenary pilot (ex-Ustio airforce)

Call sign: Snow Angel

Personal plane: JAS-39C Gripen, painted two-tone, low visibility gray, the darker shade on top, lighter gray on the bottom. The canopy and windshield are black-lined and the top of the fuselage features a black stripe all the way up to the entirely black tail, which is adorned with a white, haloed griffin on both sides of the rudder. Her name and former UAF rank (Did it really matter anymore? Honestly…) are stenciled under the canopy, in the black border above the intake, in white lettering. The paintjob is brand new.

Description: A healthily tanned, long-legged woman, the 51.7 kg Luisa will never be mistaken for “chubby”, but that doesn’t stop her baggy flight suit from hanging off her body. She stands 1.72m tall, her mischievous green eyes peering out from an unruly mop of brown hair so dark it looks black under certain lighting. Her hair is cut, unevenly, to just below her collar, openly flirting with regulation length.

Personality: Perpetually cheerful, chronically irreverent, Luisa tries to find the bright spot in any situation. She makes friends as easily as the smiles appear on her face. However, this carefree, rebellious, seemingly airheaded façade hides a tortured, anguished soul. She is haunted by the deaths of those she knows, the loss of people she loves, and the horrors of war.

She had enlisted enlisted in the Ustio armed forces to pay for college. She had chosen the air force because she had loved flying since the first time her father had taken her up in his old Piper Cub. She considered suffering through the dogfighting and bombing training a necessary evil, an objective to complete so she could move on with her military career, serve out her contract and receive her discharge. That all changed when the hostilities broke out.

The worst part? She had always been ranked near the bottom of her class. That had kept her from choice postings, posts which had been taken out early in the war and nearly crippled the UAF. Inwardly, she cringes at the thought her country’s future rests on the shoulders of a below-average pilot.

Oh man, haha.

This is an amazing coincidence! I, too, still have an insatiable desire for videogames - and believe it or not, for Ace Combat. I actually tried to create a non-SRP thread and an SR thread - without much success.

I would certainly like to make an attempt at this thread, if it gets more players. Specifically, the lady players. :p
If the current thread players (and thread creator, of course) don't mind, I would like to put my character info down - and if you're interested in another RPer, lemme know!

Name: Ramen Grier

Age: 29

Nationality: Belkan

Profession: Belkan Air Force, 7th air division / 13th tactical fighter squadron (Currently AWOL, deserter)

Callsign: Raven 2, "Rook"

Plane of choice: Su-47 'Berkut'; Craft is painted a simple black with a blue nose, and blue on the tips of wings/fins. The squadron emblem is still emblazoned on the fins: a fearsome-looking raven sitting atop a flight helmet with its claws gripping it.

Description: Ramen is teased for his relatively short stature: 5'7", though more than makes up for it with his combat experience - and whom trained him. He was often dubbed as part of "Huckebein's Prodigal Sons", as he was one of the last students of Wolfgang Buchner AKA "Huckebein the Raven" before "Huckebein" defected to Allied forces. His loyalty was always to his teacher more than his own country, which aroused suspicion among the higher-ups in Belka, and prompted an investigation to Grier when Buchner defected to Allied forces.

He kept his dark blonde hair short, and left it uncombed as it always seemed to more or less find its own way to "comb" itself. Light hazel eyes were generally hidden behind his signature pair of mirrored 'aviator' sunglasses, though before he was reported AWOL, he had been seen without them - leaving some to wonder what was happening with his character.

Little is known about him, though some have said he is now working for the Allies - possibly with his former mentor. His last transmission was as follows:
"This rook is no longer contempt in taking part with Belka's games."

Question.

When does this RP exactly take place? Before, or after the nuclear bombs detonated? A month after the start of the war, more, less?

I'd say before the seven nukes are set off. And relatively near the beginning of the conflict.

Well, I was asking because of The Apparition's character. Either he is describing his future personality or story, or he got the wrong idea about the time this is taking place in.

That said, I don't think there is no reason for him not to play a Belkan pilot. There is still some roleplaying that can be done in that sense, and I could even volunteer some ideas.

Well, not really... Huckebein fled Belka before the seven nuclear detonations - if I remember correctly.

That said, however, if there's any confusion - I can portray as having wavering feelings for Belka, before becoming a deserter.

Yeah, he fled before, but I think it was inmediately before. Wasn't he carrying a nuclear bomb when he decided to get away? I'm not sure about that, though. If he was not carrying a nuclear bomb, then yes, he escaped some time before the nuclear attacks.

(but he did know about them, and it would have been a secret operation, so I guess that would not have happened more than a day away)

All in all, I think you are better off defecting right-out.

(Sssshhhhh! Shuuuuuuut uuuuppp!)

:cathappy:

Anyway, yeah... Ace Combat is a bit Cold-War-like. Only this one is a hot war. No nonsense about nuclear deterrement, this is about planes launching missiles all around and tanks and rocket launchers owning the ground. And of course you have your secret super weapons...

Well, six less tanks are owning real estate. ;)

Okay, just a slight update on my character:

He will still have been a pupil of Huckebein, but Huckbein's desertion will not be a factor of my story (unless we get to that point or something). Instead, I will have "Rook" defect early on...

I'm working on my initial post, so as not to sound completely confusing for any of the readers. Or any of you. :p

My timing could have been better at posting, but I've only finally gotten the time to sit down and create an introduction that I was mildly pleased with and I didn't want to forget it. :p
