is there a quick and painless way to resize photos for posting on the board? I have kodak easyshare and photoshop but, am not very familure with either. Any help would be appriciated.

I use Irfanview, you can search for it and download it, free program.

In Photoshop:

Look for the heading "Image"
Scroll down to "Image Size"
Change the Width and Height of the Pixels to 150
Save

That should do the trick.

Good luck.

If you want to use a file to post otherwise, it needs to be uploaded somewhere, you can try "Putfile.com", register there (instant, free, only needing an email) and put a link to it.

The 150 x 150 is for an avatar picture.

There are lots of software apps out there for free, as others have noted. Just a matter of finding one that works well for you (ie you understand how it works without having to read an aircraft manual)

Personally, I recommend Picasa to friends - its actually an image organiser and free from Google - try picasa.google.com

You can hunt through one or more folders of pics, selecting ones to operate on, then click the 'export' button and you get the option to resize (a slider lets you select preset sizes or you can type in one), and copy them to a new folder - great for keeping originals and producing a new set for sending by email etc.

I'm not sure the size for posting to Lit (haven't done it yet) but I think the people talking about 150 pixels are referring to avatar pic size. The other pics look more like 500 ...
ah - why not find out for sure - good excuse to go and look at some pics - the first one I saw was 567 pixels - is there some automatic resizing happening when uploads are done?

The size limits for attachments are 800 pixels wide, 600 pixels tall and 102400 bytes (100KB exactly)

Those are singular limits -- a 640x480 picture is fine, but the same picture in a 480x640 orientation is "too big" because it's over 600 pixels tall.

Photoshop is the better of those two, but you'll need to export to JPeG format to attach images to your posts. Irfanview is much simpler and faster than Photoshop for resizing images and like Picassa it can convert from Photoshop to Jpeg and in batch mode and resize in batch mode.

When resizing, remember to check the "constrain proportions" or "preserve aspect ratio" options so that you can change one dimension and have the other dimension automatically adjust to prevent distorting your images.
