Yes, I know, fantasy football just ended about 16 hours ago and now we're already getting started on baseball. Honestly, I've been enjoying the off season here so much with stuff actually happening in a good way for the Pirates that I was ready to start this thread a few weeks ago. I tried to be patient, but since I've already been getting questions about this I thought we'd get this rolling.

Right now the purpose of the thread is just to give people a place to talk about the upcoming season and to give those who are interested in joining this year's league a place to let me know they're interested. We had 16 teams in last year's league and I'm more than willing to go to the full 20 that Yahoo allows for baseball.

Of the 16 that participated in last year's league, there's 11 of us I definitely expect to back this season, a couple that I'm not sure if they'll want to participate, and a couple more that either stopped participating during the season or who have disappeared of the face of the Lit earth. I think the 11 is a definite starting point as those are people who are pretty much in every Lit league that I do and then that'll leave a max of 9 more spots available for this season.

If the respone is there, there may be the possibility of a League 2 much in the same way we did football this past season. That would be a surprise to me, though.

The 2006 league will be a Plus league. More than likely I'll do something similar to what I did with the football league and send out a paypal link with the invites where you can make a contribution if you choose to. The one change I'll make is that I'll set it so you can contribute an amount of your choosing and not a set amount like I did with football. Yahoo charges $124.99 for the Plus league, and I know there were enough of us that purchased stattracker last year that contributing that amount to me thru paypal will more than cover the cost of the league.

The one person I don't want to see a contribution from is Lilly. As part of her prize as 2005 Lit Fantasy Baseball Champ she gets a free ride on the Plus league.

One thing that will be different from last year is trades. There will be no voting this year. I will review and approve all trades as quickly as I possibly can.

We'll get into more details as league sign ups get closer.

Right now you just need to post here if you have interest. I'll keep a running list of those who are interested.

And of course feel free to start discussing the upcoming MLB season here also.

I can appreciate starting the thread now. As a Blue Jay fan, it's been a terrifically exciting off-season and at about 6:30 today it'll get even more so.

Anyhoo, I'm interested in joining the league.

I guarantee you, Red sox fans have had a more exciting off season than you guys. In a Tums and Excedrin Migraine kind of way.

Yes, but you guys always have exciting off-seasons. The last time we had anything close to an exciting off-season is when we signed Roger Clemens.

I could use a nice quiet off-season. One without gorilla suits and nationally publicized haircuts and all that stupid shit.

Enjoy your fun off-season. :)

You'll be happy to know I won't be taking part this year.
Why not? That doesn't make me happy at all. :(

Count me in Lash.

Did anyone have Stattracker last year? I was thinking for baseball it really doesnt matter.

I didn't exactly participate last year. My spot should be used by someone who wants to play.

Its not so bad.

But yeah I think the Red Sox for sure lost out this off season (so did Baltimore).

Blue Jays, Mets, Dodgers the winners.

I love it for baseball. It's almost addicting to sit here watching you're season go down the toilet when you start off the season 3-27 or whatever the fuck happened to me last year.

Off the top of my head I know me, islandman and ssk had it last season. I'm thinking there were more, too.

Suggestion:

Make waivers expire at midnight ET. Waiting till 3am (midnight PT) to pick up a guy is a bitch and hard on my sleep habits.

Other than that, I'm in.

I had to run out when I was typing that up earlier. I'll start my list now.

Here's the 11 I'm expecting to be back this year:

Lasher
Lilly
Rimmy
jerseyboy
TFG
Liontamr
SSK
Chef
Romial
islandman
Big and Tall

Interested new people:

Drinking Cap
sylph one (correct me if I spelled that wrong)

I wish I could. Yahoo's based in California and they run on West Coast time. Plus a lot of games aren't even over till 2 am ET.

I'll give you a lot of credit for giving it a shot last year. Our league's here might not be the best for your first fantasy sports experience, but thanks for at least trying.

Good luck with your Sox this year. This off season has to be a killer up there.

The timing wasn't great. The league started just as I was starting a major upheaval. Baseball took a backseat for a bit.

Thanks. We will need the luck. Some bad shit is going down. I feel impending doom closing in.

Please take Damon back. Please.

Pretty please?

Its more than I don't think he's the second coming of Wade Boggs in pinstripes.
Which is why we wouldn't pay more than what he was worth.

I liked Damon, but I'm ok with him going.

I'm more concerned with the seeming unrest in the front office and all the fucking holes we have. And nobody seems to be working real hard to fill them in.

Theo! Theo! Wherefore art thou, Theo? -chuckle-

This sounds interesting.

How does Yahoo's fantasy baseball work? Is it similar to ESPN's?

Do you play head-to-head or rotisserie scoring?

He is not, but he is a vast improvement over Williams.

And Restless is right, there is something very wrong in the Redsox front office. I am not sure who is in charge of that team anymore.

Yahoo gives you the option and we go with head-to-head scoring. I'm still not pleased with how that works, but I still like that option better than rotisserie.

We go with 10 stat categories: batting average, runs, home runs, RBIs and stolen bases for hitter; wins, strikeouts, saves, ERA, and WHIP for pitchers. I had been toying with the idea of dropping BA for on base percentage and dropping home runs for slugging percentage, but in the end decided to stay with what people are used to. In the end everyone's playing the same rules anyways.

Each week of stats is a game. So if you win 6 of 10 stat categories in the week it's more like you've gone 6-4 for the week, and that's the part I don't like about Yahoo's head-to-head. I was in a league a few years ago where each game was 2 days worth of stats and that 6-4 would've been the score of the game and you would get 1 win for that, regardless of the score. Unfortunately (unless it changes this year) Yahoo does not give that option.

I've never done baseball on ESPN (and loathe their website so probably never will) but I'm guessing it's very similar.
