I am really curious about using electro-stimulation in our Play. But I am totally confused about what all you need vs. want and just what exactly do these things do and how they feel. There are leads and pads and gel and stimulators and clips and probes and......what all do you do with them?

I would GREATLY appreciate "stick-figures" on making a purchase (like a list of Must Haves for this thing to work) and would love to hear about others' experiences.

THANKS

Well, just how curious are you? ALL of the electro stuff is quite expensive, unless you know somebody that is going to sell something to you , cheap. I'm talking about $200-$300 for a good double pole TENS unit, and probably somewhere around $100 for any of the good attachments.

Clips are cheaper, but not the most fun without a good modulating TENS. Probes are expensive but worth the cash, if you ask me.

Then, there's the violet wand...which usually comes in a kit with some attachments for just over $400.

I think all of this is worth the money if it's good quality, but it is all very expensive. Are you still curious?

Still Curious...

Thanks for the reply...

I know it's going to run quite a bit - while I won't say "money is no object" I realize that several hundred dollars will be invested. Looking for the experience, not so much "economy".

So what do I need: a sending unit - leads from the unit - what kinds of leads - things the leads attach to - a remote control thingy (?) - gel(for everything??) - a medical degree(??) - are there things one *shouldn't do* with one of these units? And, are there things you should ;) do with it?

Would a wand be a good first time novice device and if so, what brand? Thanks.

If your starting out new to the Tens UNIT I would suggest Stim - 4 Its a totally self contained battery powered unit smaller then a pack of smokes. It has two seperate channels, each channel varies intensity seperately. Variable pulse frequency, continuous burst, ramp settings, ect ect. It has the unit, batteries, 2 leads, 4 disposable pads, instructions carry case ect. We sell these I think for 104.00
You can purchase more expensize items but I dunno I always tell people to go cheap what if you use it and hate it, then you have wasted only a couple of hundred instead of a few hundred.
Ok from here, you will need more disposable pads, each time you use the unit you need new pads, You will need electrical conductive gel, and you will probably need a mentor to teach you how to use this item SAFELY. It should never ever be used on people with heart problemes EVER, we also do NOT recomend it being used above the waist on ANY people.
Adaptors ohh man we sell electrified pinwheels, electrified scapels, electro cock band,, cock rings, forceps, gloves, insertable eggs, butt plugs, all electrified. So its essentially what you are looking for. But I do suggest for this type of play..a mentor is a good place to start.

Hope this helped

The most popular electoplay toys currently, are a TENS unit, a violet wand, and then the electric bug zapper has evolved into the scene, in the last few years. There are more devices out there, but these are the most popular.

The TENS is like an EMS unit that would be used by a chiropractor or physical therapist, dealing with muscle spasms and such. There are sticky pads that are attached to your body and a low-level current of electricity is then applied.

The chiropractor would keep the current low, thus only causing a tingle with the current level. And, that's also one way of using it in BDSM play, too. But, it can be turned up, depending on the type of play someone is into and then pain is increased, too.

There are a lot of interesting TENS units out there, and some aren't cheap. Attachments are plenty, also, and you could check out different online stores such as the electro stim area of JT Stockroom or Huse & son for the various TENS stuff, as well as violet wand stuff.

A TENS unit usually runs on a battery, although some large ones actually run off of AC current. The two basic types are single pole and double pole. The single pole is the first type that came out and you should never use one of those above your waist. People like to attach the wires to nipples and with a single pole TENS, that can kill you.

Your heart beats because of a small electrical impulse and putting a single pole TENS on your nipples will cause the current to flow from one nipple to the other and that will also be going through your heart. That can disrupt this little impulse your heart uses to beat, and I'm sure you understand that your heart needs to keep beating to stay alive.

Just like the EMS people use one to restart your heart with those paddles on your chest cavity, it can also stop your heart. So, because of this, it's a standard thing to NEVER use a single pole TENS above your waist.

There are now double pole TENS units available, that look very similar to the single pole, but the difference is the wires. I won't go into detail here about the double TENS. That could get confusing.

And, some people still don't trust a double pole TENS and don't recommend they be used above the waist, just like a single TENS. I do trust them, when the unit is working correctly and the user is educated in how to correctly use them.

I think most doctors and physical therapists should have double TENS units. My chiropractor has one. They are safer and a lot more adjustable than the single TENS. And, they have more knobs on them, for a LOT more adjustments on the sensation provided. I've actually gone to sleep while my back muscles were being stimulated with a double TENS.

On some of the more expensive units, there is a modulation knob that does some very nice things to the current (again, I won't get into the technical detail) so at the low settings, a TENS can be a very enjoyable feeling for sure. No, electro play isn't always about pain. There are also some pretty advanced units that use different types of waves to produce even more variations of stimulation.

A violet wand produces static electricity. Although static is the safest form of electricity, you should never use any kind of electro device on a person who has a pacemaker or any kind of heart problem. DUH!

Violet wands are a little different type of toy than some. On these online stores, you can see how they look and at least on the huse page, you can see how they look when in use.

The basics are this...there is a control unit and it has an intensity knob. The basic attachments are glass globes. These globes look somewhat like strange light bulbs and they have a gas inside. The gas inside is such that it will glow when the current flows, and the violet wand has Argon gas inside, I think. There are other gasses that glow a different color, but the first and most seen I think would be the violet...hence the name violet wand.

When used, the violet wand will produce a visible spark. Inside the globes will glow, and on the inside AND the outside of the glass globe a small charge will jump from the globe to the sub's body and produce the shock. The smaller the globe, the more concentrated the static current it, and the more potent the shock would be.

There are also attachments for the violet wand that are not glass. They are mostly solid metal or at least the part you want current flowing though is metal. Anything metal will work as a violet want attachment. A fork, a knife, etc. are some possible homegrown wand attachments. To use these as attachments, you would use what is called the body plate.

This nice little attachment fits against your body and makes your body the electrical probe. So, you can send a spark with your finger, your whole hand, or anything metal that you are holding. If you are into knife play, this can be a nice variation to that. All you need is a butter knife (always use a dull knife for this), the wand and the body attachment.

By putting the knife-edge against the sub's body, it can feel like it's cutting into the skin, when it's only the static current being felt. The current is concentrated on the edge of the knife and then transferred to the sub's skin.

It's difficult to explain some of the feelings a wand can produce. And, with some experimentation, someone who is educated in the ways of electrical current can have a lot of fun.

Because a wand produces an actual spark, it can be used as an igniter for fireplay. And, because of that visible spark it produces, it should not ever be used around flammable liquids, without proper precautions being taken.

I could go on with what a violet wand can do, and also with what a TENS can do. The more educated someone is with one of these toys, the more sensations that can be produced. And speaking of education...these toys should never be used without the proper knowledge of how they work.

Although they are very safe when used correctly, any electrical toy has the potential to harm, when used incorrectly. It's not a bad idea to have someone demonstrate how to properly use a TENS and a violet wand. These can be great fun toys, but inexperience can be your worse enemy, too. But, with the proper understanding, there is just nothing quite like electoplay.

I hope I didn't put you to sleep with this. I hope I didn't scare you off, either. I also hope I gave you something to think about. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Oddly enough, I have a TENS unit, but no ideas on how to use it pleasureably. Can ayone advise on locations for the electrodes?

you might try the JT Stockroom link and the Huse.com link in my above post (fourth paragraph). I think most TENS units use the bananna plug type of connection. Both of these sites seem to have pretty good pictures of what you're buying so you might be able to see what you need, that way.

If you want to go locally, you might try some hospital supply store or even call a hospital and see if they will tell you where you can get the leads. Of course, if you are looking for the kind that are kinky, going the hospital route might not work. If you are just looking for the kinky attachments, online is your best bet, if you don't have a local adult store that is big enough to sell them.

And, you could google the name brand of the TENS to see if you find anything that way. I've emailed JT Stockroom before with questions. They are pretty good about answering them, too. If nothing else, email them with what you have and see if they can fix you up.

Oh, no, I meant locations for electrode placement. It works fine, but all I've managed to do with it is make dull tingling sensations and painful shocks. How do I use it pleasurably?

are you male? of female?

What do the electrodes look like?

I'm male (for now...)

The electrodes are pads, but I can easily make whatever shape would work best. It's just wire.

I have never used pads, I have other attachments & probes- but on first thought I might try to place one on my cock head and the other some place toward the bottom of my balls - or even between my balls and ass-hole. Start out with all the settings at 0 and work each up just a little till you get a feeling, then just a little more. before long you will find the settings that work best.

Take your time.

This is a good idea, but pads on a male are difficult to place. You might put one just above your cock, but there is probably hair there. So, try it right at the base on the top of your cock. Put the other on your taint. The taint is the area right between your balls and your ass hole.

Like Shankara20 said, start at 0 and slowly increase the level. Ajust to your pleasure.

Now, for a male, I'd think attachments would be best. Depending on your desires, there are scrotum rings, cock rings that give off certain intense feelings, but I think the best one of all would be the anal probe. This isn't a butt plug really, although that might be a good choice, too.

But, an anal probe will go deeper than just a butt plug and cause sensations deeper inside your ass. And, if you have a double TENS, you can get a butt plug that gives sensations to your asshole as well as deep inside your ass.

A double TENS and this type of butt plug will alternate the sensations, and with some adjusting by you, I bet you'll be in heaven before long.

If someone else was controlling the knobs, that might also help with your sensations. There's just something about laying there, while someone else does all of the work. And, if you're submissive, the thought of being in their control while doing this can be quite powerful (no pun intended).

Attachments are not cheap. And, if you have just a single TENS, you are also limited to what sensations it can produce for you. But, think of it as an experiment. The current will flow from the plus wire (proabably the red one) to the negative wire (probably lthe black one). Placing the pads so the current flows through your genitals or the area around them or your asshole is your best bet. Trying different pad placements for the desired effect is your best idea.

If you have a double TENS, you will have more pads to place and you'll be able to modulate the current though those four pads, giving you even more sensations. Still, attachments are best for the most fun. That, and a friend.

Now, if you are mechanical or crafty, and you know enough about electrical current flow, you can make your own little self-stim attachments. It takes some skill and knowledge, but it really isn't that difficult. Think before you create, though. You will need to think about safety, repeated usability and depending on where you place (or shove) this home made attachment, you will also need to think about clieaning it.

Existing butt plugs can be altered, if you have the crafty skill and existing cock rings and such can be altered, too. You just need to have those necesarry skills to make it work. If you have those skills, you might check a few web sites that sell attachments to get some ideas.

But, I didn't tell you any of this, if you end up frying your cock and balls off, or sizziling your asshole shut. Remember, they are the only ones you've got. Don't get carried away.

i have used a tens for about 6months, i use sticky pads, i shave my balls and dick every 2weeks, if u dont shave, the hairs hurt like hell when you remove the pads,i have 2 slots, i put 1 pad at the base of my dick (belly side ) 1 on my cockhead, i use a long pad to cover both my balls, and my last pad i insert just a bit into my anus, you must use a lubricant or you will burn,my settings go from zero to 15, i have trained myself up to 8. the feeling i get is fantastic, i have only managed to orgasm 4 times hands free i cant descibe how it feels when i cum as i nearly faint with pleasure. i am looking about to see if i can get some sort of rod that i can use in my anus, rather than the pads.anyone who feels like trying the tens should. but please use lube..ps, i am a straight hetro male, and i found out about estim on here so i decided to give it a try...
