So despite the fact they are not sure if they are gonna have Halloween due to the opinion it is not safe for all the kiddies due to the debris from the hurricane, the sex offenders are getting spanked on Halloween anyways.

So if you are a registered sex offender, but not on probation and/or parole you have to turn your outer lights as well as turn off all lights facing the streets. Also a state issued large red sign you must put on your door warning people that you are a sex offender and not to knock on the door.

If you are a sex offender on probation, parole, or a standing conviction to be sentenced in court, you have to spend the night in the jail for the night of Halloween.

They tried to pass this through the whole state of Florida, but only the county I live in picked it up and made it mandatory.
I think it is right fucking on.

I saw it on the local news, I am searching for a link now.

Glad to see some one got ti right.

I think its bullshit and a total violation of civil liberties granted under the constitution AND Bill of Rights.

But hey.

Zieg Heil.

I think the sign on the door is a bit much. I can see trying to make them turn off the porch lights so the kids don't trick-or-treat there but beyond that I thinks it's going to far. Especially when you are talking about people that have not only served their jail time but also finished their parole and are working at being productive members of society.

But then again we have people that get stuck on our child sex offenders lists for having consensual sex with someone who happens to just barely fall under the age limit for being able to consent to sex. It fucks up the lists and not all offenses are equal.

Yee Fuckin' Hah.

I'm all for hurting the tender feelings of sex offenders.

Cattle prod, anyone?

Sieg Heil.

Go join the ACLU and I will be glad not as many kids are getting raped in the ass in Collier County.

The media here was encouraging parents to check the FDLE sex offender/preditor registry to check for places to keep the kids away from while tricker treating.

That was on the news here too.

I don't understand why this is really necessary. Adults should be accompanying their children anyway. Any kid old enough to go without parents is going to be with a group and not in any danger.

If I were an innocent sex offender, I would happily put a sign on my door to protect a kid from a guilty one.

What, to be protected from child molesters is a protection afforded by the constitution? Show me where? We need to protect the most venerable people in our society. Do you even have any idea what it take to get a conviction these days? Or how many repeat offenders there are? How week the sentencing is? It is fine to ruin a persons life, and cause unmeasurable harm the the substance of someones being, and you are concerned about them having their feelings hurt. Give me a fucking break.

May not be what they attempt to do to tricker treaters mano a mano, but depending on what the modivations of the sexual offender/preditor are, could do things to anything they are handing out.

A case of better informed and warned.

I'm certainly in favor of keeping kids safe at all times, but these efforts seem like publicity stunts to me, unless someone can show that there really is more child molesting occuring on Halloween than on most other days. Cities seem to be trying to outdo each other in shows of phony "toughness".

I'd rather any show of toughness at all than apathy.

I think the list and levels could be refined to make it more fair. I agree with that. However, I see no problem with protecting children. None Put up the signs.

Okay, after reading this three times, I think I've translated it.

1) People tampering with Halloween candy is an urban legend. There have been about 2 cases in history, and they were actually cases of parents poisoning their own children.

2) Sexual offenses and tampering with candy are two totally different crimes. How are they even connected?

Ya and if parents could watch their kids 24-7 there would be less sex offenders. You saw the vid of the girl being abducted. She is was my daughters age.

I'm sure the highlighting is because cities & counties in Florida have or are in process of passing laws which restrict where sex offenders/preditors live in relations to places children are. The more they keep it on the mind of parents, the more likely they are to support the laws.

You may be correct. They should have to keep the signs up all year round.

No, I don't know what video you're talking about.

And that doesn't change the fact that on Halloween, parents should have their eyes on their kids. They should never be more than ten feet from them! How could a child molestor possibly take the kid into the house? The signs are unnecessary.

From things I witnessed growing up, not a rural legend, but is rare.

yes, different offenses. However, if their brain is skewed enough to consider using children as sexual objects, who's to say what else their mind may consider appropriate behavior.

Only 3 times to translate? I must not be a tired I I think.

A 13 y.o. kid with a group of friends could be taken advantage of as a 6 y.o. could.
As well as unfortunately, not all kids have responsible parents.

The truth about Halloween candy: www.snopes.com/horrors/poison/halloween.asp

And sexual desire for children is completely unrelated to homicidal behavior. That's like saying if I steal, I must be an arsonist as well, because both are harmful to businesses.

The 13 y.o. girl abducted outside of a carwash in Sarasota last year while walking home in the afternoon from a friends home.

may not be a matter of them taking the kid then. However, preditor gets to have potential prey come to them.

If they can have DUI convicts have a bumper sticker on their car identifying they are a DUI offender, I don't see why sexual offenders can't be identified blantantly.
