A projected 7% drop is pretty good.

I wonder if anyone correlates the drop to a possibility that under Obama there was a huge amount of unrest in the populace which manifested as murder (and other crimes).

A language that has an American Association of Suicidology could push me to the edge.... they must have a problem maintain subscriptions

At least it's mostly a male, mostly white issue.....and thus non-issue.

Especially sharp rise in the young ones 15-35 .

I think we should continue to raise young white males in the USA to believe that they are inherently terrible because of the fact that their nation and culture is the worst thing to happen to humanity since the black plague, masculinity is toxic and their skin color oppresses others.

Very healthy, top formula for success and progress.

I hate it when people describe suicide as being 'the cowards way out' - said by people who have never faced demons and who prize the status quo above the level of a human life. I think it takes courage, of a sort, to take your own life. Leelah Alcorn had courage - the strength of her resolve to be the person she was, come what may and so if it comes to taking your own life, if there is no other choice, then so be it. It was the people around who were the cowards: too embarrassed and too locked into their small minds to accept her - they still are.

The trend has been down for the past three decades. In fact, during Obama's administration, the murder rate was also falling until the last year (2016):

There is still no consensus on why murder rose nationally in 2015 and 2016, though various theories have been proposed, including simple randomness. Similarly, a projected drop in murder in 2018 would not have an obvious cause.​
