At the time it was written, it was a highly popular song between a man and his wife. They would sing it at the end of the party to let people know it was time to leave.

In today's world, the lyrics do sound a bit off. But then, in today's world we have people getting married to "Every Breath You Take" which was by definition a scary, stalker song.

I have always thought this was a cute, fun song, ever since I heard it about 70 years ago. There are some people who feel they must take all the fun out of life. :(. There are some versions where a woman is the aggressor. I wonder if those have been banned too.

Now, that's a great idea and long overdue.
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way, there is overwhelming proof that bans like that doesn't work. While censorship can reduce accessibility in public space, privately people keep make and hold collections of banned items even under direct treats to life. And eventually even the most zealous censorship can be gamed to get the message through, at least for finely tuned receivers.
