I freely admit that this is a phenomena I have not yet experienced, or at least I am pretty sure I have not. I think it's one of those "You will know it when it happens" kind of things.

I read references to it all over this forum and feel like I have missed the boat, in a big way.

It almost feels like a rite of passage to me and I am looking forward to the experience. Is this a topic anyone would like to address? Could we discuss it?

You're not alone in this Rose...I had a similar thought, well really exactly the same one. (In fact I was going to do a search to see if this had already had a thread of its own in the past.)

I was just talking about this with a friend during the week. And neither of us had a clue.

I'll be interested to see the responses.

I ,Too would really like to know

what this "subspace" is really all about and am looking forward to the responses from "the exprerienced ones".. perhaps I have already achieved it and dont even know it?
Great thread topic Sis Rose and so nice to see you also Perse..:rose:

Oh goodness.
This is a toughie.

Tough to describe anyway, and do it justice.

I will attempt to describe it as I experience it. (Now where the heck is cym or quint or anyone who has a much better way of expressing themselves when you want them?)

I liken it to flying!

For me, time seems to stand still.
It is almost as if I have left my body and am just hovering around.
I can still feel sensations - but I couldn't really tell you what each individual one was.
My pulse is probably all over the place - but I wouldn't be aware of it.
I can hear His voice - but can hardy understand what it is saying, or if it is a whisper or a shout.
I am unable to make any sounds above an animal type grunt or the smallest whimper.
Orgasms run into each other - sometimes lifting me bodily off the bed.
I am unable to move a muscle without help.

Hmmmmmm ... its ... indescribable really.

(Help any?)

Hey Dream. :)

Okay, well -- I just did a search for "sub space" -- and looked from the last result forwards...(I figured the oldest ones might give me a post that already addressed this...)

What I did see was, what I think cym refers to when she's mentioned the monster thread that is now locked. It's a l-o-n-g thread that personally I've been meaning to read through. I would think this might have come up there.

But, I see no harm in its having its own thread as a subject.

Well........... I am amazed and not so embarrassed afterall. I thought I would be about the only one here who had not been there and done that. Thank you all for your posts and support.

But Willow's description makes it all the more tantalizing to me.
Beautifully written.

I am assuming that Dom's also experience this? All the references I have read were submitted by subs.

Thanks for the link morninggirl!

I just read through that whole thread -- gives me a much better idea of what people are talking about.

It's interesting to me because it reminds me exactly the way a "runner's high" has always been described to me. And I've yet to experience after 17 years of running, lol. But that's because I don't do more than 3-4 miles at the most -- runner's talk about it more happening during long distances.

And that seems to be some of the key -- pushing past a certain endurance point and just being within the moment, completely. Obviously brain chemicals are at work. But the person is in a state of "flow" -- they are one with their body, breath, mind, and soul.

Interesting, people talk about similar states happening with those who practice meditation. Particularly those who do a sitting practice regularly every day and for long periods of time. I think meditation can be as difficult as a sport, lol. So much concentration and yet so much letting go at the same time. But I understand the experience, even if I haven't quite gotten there.

Glad we're all discussing this. :)

*edit: Rose, if you look at the thread morninggirl attached -- Shadowsdream brings up the topic of dom space. And if you do a search -- there's an old thread that is just about dom space.

Thanks Rose.

I believe that Dom/me get a similar rush ... and call it top space?
(ohhh I bet I have it wrong)

It doesn't happen to me everytime - but when it does ... it is simply ............ simply breath taking.

Coming down from subspace can take me all night too.

Thank you, Perse and Morninggirl. I will read those threads mentioned.

Runner's high does mean something to me, description-wise. Good correlation, Perse.

Thank you all for your input. I think this could be an interesting discussion for many of us.

Oh Boy Howdy, Willow. You make it all the more intriguing.....

I've only been to subspace a couple of times and it is a spectacular experience. I think Willow described it pretty well, at least from my memory of it. I will say that nothing else existed except the senstions and the pleasure. I don't think we get to go there often, but I am eager to return.

ahhhh geeeeeeze Des

You lucky woman. Just one more reason I envy you, pal.

I guess you could call Top Space a sort of runners high. Sub space is more of a fifth of Jack Daniels high.

Route 66 maybe?

Now that I have an idea, WHAT it is and feels like, How does one get there? I am speaking of Subspace, not deadspace, by the way.

Wow, Willow referenced me and cym in the same breath! That's gonna keep a huge grin on my face all day! And actually, Will, I heard that the dominant equivalent is referred to as Dom space, but I'm sure it's interchangeable.

My one contribution thus far: This was the day I had determined to lose my anal virginity, and in preparation I had to take the large butt plug. Definitely new experience. I got about half of it inside my ass, breathing extremely deeply, relaxing to the best of my abilities, and when I neared the widest point---no pain. Only a feeling that there SHOULD be pain, and a floating exhilarated euphoria. I probably babbled quite a bit.

(Actually, it reminds me of the times I've gotten a concussion. Everything seems to be standing still, and I repeat myself a lot because I'm so very impressed by myself and my situation and I'm sure I look quite ridiculous to the people not directly involved.)

It wasn't really orgasmic, more post-orgasmic. I got the tingles and the giddiness and the hyper-sensitivity. Unfortunately, I'm excruciatingly difficult to get off, and so I didn't see any difference in how THOSE felt, but it was still all sorts of fun.

Damn, I want to go back there. Ehhh...another month. I can survive. I'm strong. *sniff*

I would be in DEADspace after half that.

My friend, you wouldn't care if you did enter deadspace.

They are, basically, exactly the same thing, Perse. So you're dead-on. It's an endorphin high, created and controlled by the Dominant partner. (I posted about the endorphin process behind it on the thread linked by mg, above.)

It doesn't come very quickly, at least not until one is trained to begin releasing the endorphins (by getting nervous, excited, anticipatory) very early in a scene, which takes time to built toward. But, with extended duration of a scene, even a complete neophyte who's never *heard* of sub-space can reach it. Unlike most things, biochemistry doesn't play favorites. *wink*

It's better than drugs.

Oh, and to answer the original question: "Where is it for you?"
For me, it's right outside Las Vegas. :D

Thank you all

but can you give me some idea how one gets to this place?

Is it describable?

It's different for every person, Rose. It depends upon what makes you scared & excited, and your body's level of sensitivity. The anticipation of being blindfolded and bound can get your adrenaline flowing, start putting you into an excitable place.

Then, a long slow flogging, starting soft and building to the sting. Now your whole body is awake, all points are feeling sensation, and it's starting to be hard to tell where the blows land.

Maybe now your Dominant changes to a new kind of sensation, putting on clamps, playing with fire and ice, using a more directed sensation/percussion toy like a light cane. Always, there are voice commands, possibly verbal cues to set a mental frame (like verbal humiliation), and some words of soothing to follow down the rabbit hole.

Soon, the world narrows to the voice, the sensations, and the hands and body that deliver both.

Thank you Risia. I do believe this is one thing I am very much looking forward to experiencing, at least once in my life......
