okay, so, i dunno about the others, but i enjoyed the bleach thread i was in with Masume and...uh...is it bad that i can't remember who else was in it aside from Heartbomb, who played Orihime?

anyways, i was thinking of doing my own Bleach thread. i haven't thought about premise yet, though there is one possiblity in my mind. i just want to see who's interested, before i decide if i'm going to make it

I could try playing in something like that. Really I haven't watched all that much of Bleach, but this would be inspiration to go watch a few more episodes so I could get the feel for a character.

Bleach is an anime/manga series centering around a young man who gets killed or something, only to get saved by a Soul Reaper, and fights the creatures that did the killing. For a good idea as to the nature of the Soul Reapers, read the thread between Maid of Marvels and...uh...Steiner, i think...it's meant as a sort of prequel, i guess.

anyways, in Bleach, Ichigo, the young man, learns how to fight the creatures he's up against, as the soul reapers do, but he is NOT a soul reaper. in fact, his soul has to separate in order for him to fight (and we find out much later than the part that remains in his body is starting to become a Hallow, which are the enemy). at the point they are in the dubs, Rukia, the Soul Reaper that rescued him and trained him, is being held captive becauase Ichigo somehow absorbed her Reiatsu, her spirit power. they don't specify how, of course, but Ichigo and his friends enter the realm of the Soul Reapers to try to rescue her before she gets sacrificed/executed, or something like that. it's a good series, though i've not caught every ep up till now.

i highly recommend watching it. new english eps are coming on on Adult Swim on saturday nights on cartoon network.

hmm...maybe i should post the idea i had so far....

well, basically, as far as i've gotten is, some time after the gang is out of school (and on vacation) a Hallow attacks in a town in the US, far from the Soul Reapers. They have no choice but to take on the creature, but before they can, they witness a young man take a claw straight through his body. Ichigo, as usual, gets pissed off and starts changing, when they hear a loud crash, almost like an explosion. Uryu's the first to see the cause, as the young man that they had thought was dead managed to smash a chunk of concrete with a heel kick and pull out one of the iron rods used in rebar. Before he can shout a warning, the young man dashes past Ichigo, attacking the creature with the iron rod used as a sword. The attack, making full use of the young man's Reiatsu, completely destroys the Hallow, and then the young man passes out, hitting the ground like a ton of bricks. When he wakes up, the gang is clustered around him, confused as to how he was able to attack after taking the injury he had. More importantly, Ichigo, Yoruichi, and Rukia ask him where he learned to use his Reiatsu like that, to which, of course, he is confused. that's when they realize he's never been trained to use it, but rather, used it on instinct. More importantly, his Reiatsu managed to heal his injury on its own. It's then that they realize they should keep an eye on him (and that's as far as i've gotten so far)

I've watched every Bleach episode so far so I can help if you need to know anything and I may or may not join the RP after I get a look at it. Oh and btw it's Hollow not Hallow and they're Shinigami not Soul Reapers, I know it's nit-picking but accuracy is good :D And Shinigami are all over the world, not just in japan so you'll have to alter your story a little.

I take it the main plot-line would be revolving around this man who has incredible reiatsu but very little control over it? Maybe it could be that the fact that he has such large reiatsu attracts a great deal of Hollow and Menos (Higher level Hollow) who want to feast on him and the gang have to protect him and at the same time help him get to grips with these abilities, and perhaps there's some reason behind his abilities? Like an experiment by the Ministry of Technology in Soul Society.
Oh but if I was involved I'd like to play Ichigo =]

actually, Shinigami MEANS Soul Reaper

and yes, something like that, maybe. though i was thinking something a bit higher up. maybe some kind of deity from the old world's doing...though i suppose a Deity could really be just a really old shinigami

You must've heard different to me cause in Bleach and Death Note they refer to shinigami as meaning Death God. You might be thinking of Zanpaktou, cause that means Soul Slayer.

And yeah a grander storyline probably would be more interesting, maybe you could involve some higher level hollows in it, like Vasto Lorde?

no, think about it...Death God...Grim Reaper...Soultaker...Soul Reaper....now do you see where the US version comes from?

Yeah but that's the US version, it butchers alot of the translation.
Shinigami literally means Death God in japanese.

true enough....however, considering their task, i equate them with Piers Anthony's version of Death (from On A Pale Horse)

Shinigami is given to be Death god. Gami Or Kami Dependent on (I think) pronoun usage, is God.

Reaper is a different Word in japanese and has to do more with tool than anything else.

Shi - Death (Along with Four, and a number of other words.)

Gami - High Class, Or luxury.

Shinigami - Death (God of)

Reaper is Karite.

Soul being about 8 different words.

Which was an awesome series of books.

Now all of that is really REALLY flawed translation since it's from Japanese PINYIN instead of Kanji. So it's like a half assed english toe nglish translation, by pronounciation. But it's way to explain.

most online dictionaries have major mistakes anyways. I'll have to ask Mai, Mikomi, or Shukaku, as all three of them are fluent (two having been born in japan, one being part japanese)

i've only read On A Pale Horse, part of the War one, and the Nature one ....i haven't even gotten into the God Incarnations (God and the Devil, two separate books in the same series)

Shinigami (死神, Shinigami? lit. "death god(s)") are a fictional race of beings in the anime and manga series Bleach. In the English dub of the series, they are known as Soul Reapers.

In other words, if we are looking at it from the dub point of view, which Dragon is, they are referred to as Soul Reapers, while if we look at it from the point of view of the heavy fans who have watched up to episode one hundred and whatever on Youtube where the fansubs probably don't bother translating Shinihami, that answer would be the correct one.

In closing, it seems rather silly for this argument to even be taking place, since I assume everyone knew what it was that he was talking about, and which group of characters Dragon was referring to when he said "Soul Reapers" As long as everyone knows that Shinigami and Soul Reapers are the same thing, just different words (much like how Policeman, Cop, and Officer of the law, all mean the same thing).

i'll get to work on a glossary, unless someone else wants to take care of that....also...no gals yet?

hmmm...we need more interest, especially of the female variety...i think i'll advertise

also, for the record, custom characters are welcome (encouraged, even).

does anyone remember the term they use to describe people like Ichigo and his friends? i remember they used a certain term, in japanese, during the dub to name them, something derogatory, from the way it sounded.

The term you want is "rioka," though I'm not sure if I spelled it right. o_O;;

it would probably be spelled ryoka...thanks....*smiles*

okay, if everyone's still interested, i'm opening the recruiting on this again. we'll need some male and female players (more female than male, i think)

we have someone who wants to play Orihime, but we'll still need a Yoruichi, a Rukia, and several other characters.

i believe someone already said dibs on Ichigo, which is fine.

i'll be writing up the opening post for the IC thread, but we'll still need more characters. i'm going to have the name of this thread changed to something like "Bleach: Altered State OOC/Casting Call/Idea Thread" or something like that

whee, busty redheaded mortal goddess...erhm << >>

i'll get to work on the thread before i come up with a profile for my character.
