Attention all Blafro Americans

And yet, it is a white guy who found this "two black coach" thing thread worthy.

Dumb fuck.

"National Act Like A Cunt Day" is next Sunday.

Listening to talk radio this week and reading some football-oriented forums, it's obvious that the attention given to this topic is pissing off an awful lot of white guys. I see it as a test run for the "why is everybody making such a fuss over Obama being black" comments for the coming months.

People can say all they want that it's really no big deal, but the fact is that if there had never been widespread disbelief about the ability of black coaches to succeed, this wouldn't be happening for the first time in 2007.

I've been watching the NFL for years. I can't even remember who the first black head coach was, and I think it's absolutely stupid to not pick the best person for the job.
But you mentioned a "test run." Condi Rice was the first black Secretary of State and it generally evoked yawns among the fourth estate. Compare that to hubbub for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

I just know that Art Shell was the first of the modern era back with the raiders.

A big thing is the "Interview" which is why the Rooney rule really was so important (and should get the guy hall of fame accolades as an executive)

Mike Tomlin this year and Lovie Smith before him credit the fact that they HAD to give one minority an interview a chance to present themselves.

The problem with the interview is that it is so subjective so when some 70 year old rich white guys who group up during segregation think "Intelligence...Leadership...." and all those other things they want in a coach, they pick guys from their own comfort level and inner circle.

Jerry Jones is an interesting position.

He should have hired Marvin Lewis years ago and really seemed suspect when he didn't.

Technically he fulfilled the Rooney rule when he interviewed Todd Bowles but he got a lot of flack for granting Mike Singletary a "token" interview.

I'm hedging bets though that Ron Rivera will probably get the job now.

I've nominated this in Poppy's greatest insults thread.

Thanks. But alas I have her on ignore for the crime of Boredom. So I am unfamiliar with the thread. You can accept the award for me if I win.

I didn't know how to label this. If you are black, Afro-Americans or just prefer to be called Americans and you are black, this question is for you.
A couple of weeks ago I was watching the playoffs with some buds. When the Bears won the announcer pointed out that Lovie Smith would be the first black to coach a Super Bowl team.
My friends and I looked at each other. What the fuck? What the fucking fuck? Could this be true?
Well, yes it is true. We were all surprised by that news.
I don't know about my friends, but I don't sit around and think about black coaches, brown businessmen or female astronauts.
So my question to all the fabulous blacks, Afro-Americans and Americans who happen to be black on Lit is: How big a deal is it that not one, but two black head coaches are pacing the sidelines at the Super Bowl today?

I guess Dungee doesn't count.

More than that though. I've watched the media make much of this over the past two weeks. A regular fucking orgy of 'blackness.'

These two men have achieved the best record in their sport. They did it by being the best at what they do. Damn hard work and smarts. To focus on the color of their skin is to diminish the very real accomplishments they've made. Media racism at it's best, or worst. There is NO reason to celebrate the color of their skin. Celebrate their accomplishments.

And should the Colts win tonight will the headlines tomorrow be, "First Black Coach Losses Super Bowl?"

No, the headlines will be, "First Black Coach Wins Super Bowl." (That one is sooooooo easy to call.) All other press releases will be forgotten.

The message being sent is simple. These men excelled in spite of their race. I also heard a message sent regarding the efforts of Bill Walsh to start a program to 'mentor' black coaches. Laudable to be sure, but it implied that these black men needed some special classes to learn to coach. Special consideration based on the color of their skin. Horse shit. These are men of quality and talent. They didn't need any race based handicap to excel.

And they're both devote Christians. Kinda a mixed blessing for some I would think.

If you have her on ignore you should have a contract out for Ham Murabi's life by now. The dude hasn't had an original thought since Scott X won a writing award.

Bill Walsh "Mentoring" black coaches is laudable.

Josh McDaniels is a good example. When he first came to the patriots he was an intern but Belicheck taught him.

One of the reasons blacks have been stunted is too few coaches have reached out as readily as they would their white peers.

One of the overlooked parts of the Rooney rule is it is to help identify and groom minority candidates.

White coaches aren't automaticalyl just equipped and qualified they needed help and lack coaches should get the same support.

That's more your problem than mine; there'll always be a MLK Jr. Day. And this month must suck for you since it's black history month. I'm surprised you aren't going to be drunk until the 28th.

Oh wait, you are. Sillyme.

I don't have a problem LT. Only with those that differintiate by race or demand special consideration.

But you are the king of differentiation by race. Muslims, blacks, native Americans... what non pure white Aryans have you not insulted or defamed as a race?

Culture and race. And religion, for that matter. Let us not forget the white supremacist site you dragged up to prove black people, as a race, were criminals.

Haven't you heard, Scotty is now an award winning creative director in advertising. Kinkos screwed up his work order, but he still managed to nab the top prize.

LMAO. The UCJR is white supemist? Better get that in context boy.

You, after all these years, don't have a clue as to where I'm coming from. Not a clue.

You've never answered any of the hard quesitons I've asked. You start threads linking to my posts without context and make accusations. ALL of the statistics I've posted are available and subject to verification. Rather than verify you've called me names for nothing more than pointing out facts.

You've yet to explain why blacks from thoughout the world come to this country and thrive. You've yet to explain why their average income is higher than the average income of the 'white' population. Obviously color isn't a barrier. If it isn't, what is LT?

Given the nature of your 'facts', only SETI has any idea where you're coming from.
