Besides Literotica, what are the best websites and why? Post short reason and link please.

1. Don't post your own site.

2. Post a site you enjoy going to and spend a lot of time on.

3. Preference for sites that are text heavy vs. game heavy or pic heavy. (so I guess I mean for lots of good information)

4. Should be one that you have visited and basicly could get endless use out of.

Examples:

Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

Metareligion:
...to promote a multidisciplinary view of the religious, spiritual and esoteric phenomena. has a science homepage and a religion homepage- cool.

Sacred Texts:

I'm a hopeless egghead. "Arts & Letters Daily" posts all sort of reviews and critiques of art, literature, politics, history, biography. Almost always gives me something to think about. When I'm not on Lit, I'm usually here.

http://aldaily.com/

RefDesk started out being a reference clearing house for all sorts of information: dictionaries, calculators, translators, gazetteers, grammars, maps, just about anything you might want to know. Now it's so complicated and interesting that I have to be careful not to get sucked into it. You want to find out how to get a stain out of a carpet or read the Sydney Morning Harold, you can do it here.

Use the Search RefDesk box on the upper left to find what you're looking for, otherwise you might never come out.

If you're interested in crime & punishment, bizarre & funny court cases, and celebrity legal woes, the Smoking Gun is a great place to visit:

http://www.thesmokinggun.com

If you have some morbid interests or curiosities and aren't easily grossed out, this one's fun:

http://www.rotten.com

If you have a voyeuristic tendency (not of the sexual nature, but peering into people's innermost thoughts), I highly recommend this site. You can anonymously confess, yourself, or spend hours upon hours reading the secret confessions of others:

The online dictionary and thesaurus I use constantly is http://www.m-w.com. It hasn't failed me so far. I also use wikipedia a lot.

Google Scholar is great for searches of medical literature and Lexis-Nexis is great for newspaper searches, but to get most info you need to belong to a university or pay money.

Oh and for publishing sci-fi, fantasy or horror, the single best place to look for places to submit is Spicy Green Iguana: http://www.spicygreeniguana.com

In addition to some of the above, here are several sites which I visit fairly frequently for informative purposes:

Encyclopædia Mythica
A fantastic site for brief synopses of myths and legends from all over the world, it covers Europe, Africa, the Near East, the Far East, and the New World and contains a wealth of basic information on so many different myths and legends. They update it on occasion and I often will read the new entries as soon as they include them.

Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance
An absolutely amazing site on the topic of religion, it contains some general information about numerous religious groups, as well as various topics of specific concern that cross over the different religious barriers. It's general a bit liberal, shall we say, but for basic information it is quite excellent.

Regnal Chronologies
A very expansive list of rulers of just about every imaginable nation in the history of the world. It's not indepth and it doesn't go into the lives of said kings and queens, but it is nevertheless a wealth of information (and fairly easy to navigate, I find) on the chronologies of leadership. Want to know who the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg was from 1684-1698? Johann Gottfried II von Gutenberg.

My god, that's twisted.

I can't post any of my favorite sites becuase they contain adult content.

The Canon Digital Photography Forum - Website forum for digital Canon users. Got a problem with post-processing? Want to ask what lens to get next? Want to post your images for others to see? This forum is really nice. It has a laid back atmosphere compared to Fred Miranda's more strict.

Fuck me, I skipped all the information sites and jumped right to this one.

My favorite so far:

"I actually think it is important what type of vehicle I drive. But it is not important to me what anyone else drives."

(hijacking my own thread)

Then I found this one, which I found quite sad:

You are the only one I will ever want, you are my soulmate. It kills me that you have been with 6 people before me. I wish you loved me half as much as I love you.

I can justify spending all my time on this site as character research. :nana:

Perhaps I should go and confess that thought!

Amazon - I can browse for hours through books and people's lists; and, I use my "Wish List" as a catalog of books that I want to read, movies that I want to see, etc.

Love it. Recommended.

CIA - The World Factbook is fun reading in case you need to catch up on what's happening in Botswana or to stay abreast of what the perfedious Liechtensteiners are up to these days.

Craig's List is one of the more insidious time-killers on the web.

And all good porn/erotica writers should have The Erotic Readers and Writers Association bookmarked, if not for the stories, then for the calls for submissions and contest announcements.

Rumple Foreskin

I live on http://www.bardicweb.com - its a writing site I've been banging on about since it opened (we've broke it twice so far).

It specialises in role-play and round table writing, (not just fantasy, but a range of genre's) and it rocks. Even lets you own your own board.

Fairly text heavy, but it has pretty graphics too :)
