A poll about the shutdown.

I think we need a "WAR ON CORONA!"

Me first. I think I'll win.

:p

I don't agree or resist. I do more of an eyeroll and wait for people to accept the inevitability of death and contagion.

And blowhard killer Trump can say anything he wants about it. I tuned him out long ago.

That said, I favor opening up as they can, but I can and will shelter with no problem as long as the food chain and the power grid hold up.

The bottom line is the we can't reopen without a high risk of backsliding until/unless there is massive testing and a coherent opening up program and Trump is directly preventing that from happening, so fuck him and whatever he wants.

Massive testing?

Some sort of zeitgeist mandatory thing?

Maybe we should start with other communicable diseases, first?

I can think of a few...

So, you've spent the last two months under a rock, I see. Sorry, I don't have time for stupid.

My answer may be biased by the fact that I’m in Michigan, where the governor has gone a little crazy.

The fact that our governor has closed all public parks, public and private campgrounds, but labeled golf courses an "essential business " pisses me off. And I'm a golfer.

shutdowns

The shutdown will end and infections will spike. Then another shutdown, another spike, repeat.

Humans are doomed.

Unless and until an effective vaccine is available in quantity.

Until then I worry about my American friends and relations. There is no consistent health response in the US and idiots who put all of them are at risk.

In my small town I have two friends, much younger and fitter than me, who have had the virus and survived after more than a week in hospital; and a friend's young daughter who was an ER nurse who has died.

Damn ferd, you came back twofold!

Laurel misses the VPN run arounds.

So sad about ror. :(

That's... A really obvious attempt to not piss off the wealthy male demographic.

I vote no more poles.

Retarded and the heading only leans to make the thread / pole starter feel relevant.

#ibeatcovidsoipostdumbshit

I think the poll choices are shit.
I said resist because it was the
closest option to "resent" as I
see how badly it has corrupted
petty officials with the sweet
nectar of pure unchecked power.

Finally someone has performed the test, albeit a sample population, that needs to be performed to put the Wuhan Flu into perspective.

More than you realize

It appears that the number of people that have had the Wuhan Flu with few and minor symptoms is FAR larger that anyone has suspected. This is the test that Vat, SpearChucker, myself, and others have been railing for for some time now. Dolf's relating of her experience with her family unit is a micro-sample of how this disease works.

Lock down or no lock down the Wuhan Flu is going to continue to spread and there are some that are going to succumb to the virus. This is going to continue until a vaccine is available. The best that can be done is to slow the spread of the virus by practicing well known and common sense hygiene. A continued lock down will not "save" anyone, nor is relaxing the measures going to "kill" anyone. The Wuhan Flu is going to run it's course and the lock downs only SLOW the spread of the disease, not stop it. Anyone that believes otherwise is a fool.

The "experts" tell us that it will be 12 - 18 months before a vaccine is available. (I personally believe that it will take less time than that but only time will tell.) The world cannot afford to be locked down for that amount of time. Untold millions will die as a result of the lock down rather than the disease. I would find no solace in knowing that at least the Wuhan Flu didn't kill them.

It appears that the initial period of isolation has achieved it's goal, that being to "spread" the curve so as to not overwhelm the health care system. Now it's time to understand and deal with, and yes, live with, the reality of the disease. It's not going away and we can't jump in bed, pull the covers over our head and hide from that fact.

Let us keep in mind, as I have been reminding people for two days now,
that this shutdown/isolation was sold to us as a temporary measure
that would allow hospitals to get up to speed, which here in the US, they
now are, and are even under duress for lack of business having shut-down
the so-called "elective" procedures. But now, we are told that it is necessary
(and seemingly permanent) because if we lift it WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE
which is a position/claim antithetical to the accumulating body of Scientific
evidence. The hospitals are now ready to save lives, let them fucking do it
instead of relying on the idiots who hold power thanks to the votes of the
unwashed and easily swayed by free stuff and shiny baubles, dumb masses...

(Say that [dumb masses] fast ten times... ;) ;) )

Bankrupt hospitals do not save lives and
they do not employ health care professionals.

Bankrupt politicians do us far more harm
when it comes to economics and our
ability to simply live and prosper.

I agree with both of you - finally some sane posts as opposed to the "let's be brave and defy social distancing cause freedom and Constitution".

The more time goes by, the more we become aware of the dangers of recession, starvation and riots.

But shouldn't they replenish masks and hand sanitisers first, before restarting economies?

sygn

Here in the US, we are.
Capitalism and our proclivity to charitable works
stepped into the void and went into rapid production.
Car makers tooled up for ventilators, distilleries switched some operations
to hand sanitizers and churches and celebrities got into the face-mask business...

Don't believe the press of those who think that government is the answer to everything that ails us...

The results are pretty much what I expected, so far.

I'm wondering about the difference in attitude between America and so much of the rest of the world. Could it be that a lot of other nations have had war on their soil in the not too distant past? In ww2, personal liberty was compromised for men being conscripted to the military, women being conscripted to military, land army, manufacturing, people obeying curfews and blackouts, ration books, etc.

America's had the draft a couple of times but, unless you were of Japanese heritage, there weren't the same restrictions on day to day life.

Maybe?
