Please use this as a place to apply for entrance into the Hallowed Halls of Hell and to discuss the machinations of that infernal place.

To apply for entrance, please provide character information in the following format:
Name: Lucifer
Height: 10'
Weight: 580 lbs
Hair Color: None
Eye Color: Black
Skin Color: Deep Red
Tattoos/Markings: None
Piercings: None
Horns: Huge, black horns sweep out from the sides of his skull and arc foward and upward to sharp points.
Tail: None
Wings: None
Typical Dress: Lucifer often dresses in black leather armor with a great, dark cape sweeping out behind him.
Miscellaneous: This is just an example. Lucifer will be assuming many different shapes and visages during the course of the story. This description was based off of Tim Curry's portrayal in Legend. (I do like this look, though, so expect to see it now and then)

This information will be linked off the 'Hierarchy of Hell' in the intro post on the IC thread. This makes it simple for someone to look up aesthetic information so they're not spending hours pouring through hundreds of posts so they can write about how they were "entranced by the sinister oblivion of her ebony eyes".

Also include the Circle and Rank that you want to start out in. (i.e. First Circle - Prince or Fifth Circle - Duke or Third Circle - Sanitation Engineer - okay, maybe not the last one)

We'll give this a couple of weeks to see how many people want to join before we start the IC up.

Please, once the IC begins, do not write in non-player characters (NPCs) in any titled position. Those spots are reserved for authors. Feel free to include other NPCs in your storyline, as long as they make sense. I would not, for example, write about the million dragon army that you have at your disposal. A friend or servant or pet would be fine, however. Just remember, once you write them in, you have to take care of them and they cannot have a major impact on the story. NPCs are for color and depth, that's all.

Okay, that's about it for now, I think. For those of you checking this out for the first time, it may seem a little daunting. Trust me, once it gets going, it runs pretty smoothly from your side. I end up with most of the work ;)

Welcome to Hell!

Not playing Lucifer this round? Well, I'm going to be reprising my role as Henrich, the Hell-bound Wizard. Just need to dig up the old thread and do some cutting and pasting action to get some of the ol' stuff up for him...

If I can still get to it!

But either way, I'll get ahold of you and try to work out the details that I need before doing anything.

Hey. I'm new to Lit, but Hallowed looks to be a really wild ride. Once things get going here I'll definitely be putting in a submition. I'd love to cut my teeth on a game like this. Until then, it looks like I've got plenty of the first Hallowed to try reading through.

Yay! Annalyra's definately in for round II once it gets rolling! :)

Like Lotharian, I'll wait till you get the details going to post/repost her description and all that.

Heh. Hallowed is where I got my start on lit to. Last run had a lot of Lit's best so the only thing you'll have to worry about is yourself really ;)

Ummm...couple things.

We starting fresh, picking up after the events of the first, or what?

Yes, I will join once more, so long as there is still people here to play with.

Outstanding! I'm glad to see so many of you are game to give it another go. The last time we got gnarled up in storylines with absentee characters, and I just didn't have the time or inclination to pick up yet another non-player character. We'll do better this time.

This is a whole clean and new slate. For those of you joining from round one, you're welcome to use the same characters, but the history is wiped. We're all starting from ground zero. This will allow you to easily mold your character into the current storyline.

I've tweaked the rules just a little since the last time, namely in regards to starting position (no one starts above prince, so the crowns of the kingdoms are something you have to work for) and signet rings (which you'll recall came into play toward the end of the last round).

I've contemplated letting someone else take over the role of Lucifer. I'd really enjoy taking part in the competitive side of the game, which isn't one of Papa Satan's perks. However, I've got trust issues. If I knew that I could rely on someone to be fair, creative, attentive, inspiring, and a little scary, I'd give up the throne in a second. Running Hell can be a pain in the ass! (But a lot of fun as well.) Honestly, though, I don't know that anyone would really want the job.

Hmmm... perhaps Lucifer could be dethroned by a king or queen with the strength and cunning to usurp him...

Anyway, I'm excited to get it going again.

Welcome to Hell!

Annalyra

Here's my application: I'd like to play the same character as last time, since I had such a good time with her! :)

Name: Annalyra (Princess of the First Circle)
Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 120 lbs
Hair Color: Black, shoulder length
Eye Color: Pale lavender
Skin Color: Pale
Tattoos/Markings: None (yet!)
Piercings: Lots! Ears, nose, tongue, nipples, navel, clitoris (inverted gold cross; this is her initial soulstone)
Horns: Two small red horns on brow
Tail: Three feet long, prehensile
Wings: Batlike and dainty
Typical Dress: Lucifer often dresses in black leather armor with a great, dark cape sweeping out behind him.
Miscellaneous: Annalyra prefers to dress in an outfit of black and red leather straps and silk veils with a red leather thong. She also wears a headdress of a collection of razor-edged blades that sweeps back gracefully. Annalyra's a very skilled telekinetic, and can manipulate many objects at once with great agility, although not without much force.

Name: Krond
Skin Color: Dark red
Height: around 7' with standard hunched posture, 8'5" fully straightened
Weight: 550 lbs +
Hair Color: Stiff black mane running down spine
Eye Color: Yellow and slitted, lit by an inner light
Horns: Coming out from the sides and sweeping forward, one broken off a few inches from the base. Currently gilded.
Tail: Slim, with a spaded tip
Wings: Large and bat-like
Miscellaneous: Extremely powerfully muscled, particularly in the arms. Has an extra joint in the legs, with clawed toes. Claws and sharp nails are black. Face has thick brows, vaguely bestial, with predatory teeth (large canines & the like)

Generally dressed in a loincloth and belt. Has a pouch on the belt. A magical whip is also looped around the belt. Also has a large iron 'pitchfork' (fairly tridentlike with three prongs.

Krond possesses few magical powers. One is his ability to "read souls". Having spent eons among the damned meting out punishment, he is able to read their sins like an open book. Also rumored to be capable of assuming his old angelic form. This form is slender and graceful. It is 5'5" and 139 lbs. It has a beatiful face and silver hair. The eyes, as windows to the soul, remain the same. It possesses silver feathered wings. His former name is Ambereleth.

Here's a longer, more detailed write up.

Krond is one of those who fell in the rebellion. A very minor member of the host, he went into hell with no rank. He was assigned to the pits, to mete out punishment to the newly arriving damned souls of humanity, and has done so since, striking out with the lash and "pitchfork" (a trident). He has wandered as they toiled; his great strides in a random pattern, striking out with his lash at random, and with no set rythm; such that none see it coming, and all are expectant- and dread.

His millenia of striking with the lash have molded his very body, made him powerful, the constant to and fro of muscles forming him almost into a bicep that walks like a man. He is tall, over seven feet with his stooped, looming posture (And would be even taller if he straightened himself), and quite broad shouldered, his poweful body corded with great knotted muscle, particularly in the arm. He treads around on splay feet, with extra jointed legs. Both fingers and toe end in black clawlike nails. He posesses a thin tail with a spaded tip. His body is wrapped in a dark red hide. A thick bull-neck connects his head. His head is bestial, with a small nose, and a mouth containing a predator's teeth. Two horns sweep out from the sides, and forward. Two eyes gleam a feral yellow. He has no hair save a bristly black mane that runs down his head and along his neck and spine, between two powerful wings.

He wears little more than a loin cloth, with a thick belt. His whip is looped in the belt when not in use, and he also carries the trident-like pitchfork that denotes his station of tormentor of souls, and serves as a weapon if needed to defend himself.

He keeps his old garb from his angelic days, including shining armor, even though it no longer comes even close to fitting him. One rumor says that he can assume his old, angelic form, and so keeps them handy.

He is a talented bully with eons of practice. He excels a punishment, intimidation, and terror. Not as cunning as the aristocrats of demonic society, he's still somewhat bright, and could prove to be a quick learner. He has an odd sense of humor, and the sadistic nature required for his job. Not terribly talented in magical areas, and rusty in a straight fight, he relies on an overwhelming offense.

His old days in the pits have ended recently. A count from the next circle over mounted a raid to capture damned souls for slaves. Krond waded into the raiders, a seeming engine of destruction among them, and decisively ended the attempt by pinning the count to the ground like an insect with his pitchfork. His actions have cought the attention of his superiors, and he's been given a message to report to his liege for knighting.

Name: Henrich

Height: 5'6"

Weight: 146 lbs

Hair Color: Blonde

Eye Color: Blue

Tattoos/Markings: A small, circular scar over his left breast.

Horns: None

Tail: None

Wings: None

Typical Dress: He is drabbed in the furs he wore when he died, looking like a Germanic Tribesman of the past. While most would think a man dress like this would be some sort of barbarian, which has been a very useful illusion. Also, he has a series of pouches along his waist.

Miscellanous: He's a human in Hell that isn't burning with the others.

History: Henrich was once a simple apothecary in a small town in the Holy Roman Empire. He had picked up some white magics, though he kept it secret since all magics were seen as unholy (even those that helped and healed). He had a family that he loved dearly, a wife and three children. And generally, life was happy under the rule of the local prince.

But a sizeable chunk of the Empire sought to go on it's own, called Austria. The Austrians quickly banded and did a land grab, and unfortunately Henrich's home was on the freshly made Austria - Empire border. Battle quickly consumed the small town and the flame consumed them. Henrich struggled amongst the flame to save his family, but as he struggled against the rubble and flame of his home to get to them, he got no where.

All he recieved for his efforts was to hear their last cries of life.

Henrich left the town, a sundered man, and stumbled into the local woods. There is where he met his damnation in the form of a demon guised as a courtier. He offered Henrich revenge, and like a fool he took it. Gifted with the Dark Magics, Henrich returned to the town where the triumphant Austrians were looting the ruins of the town.

He stole from them life, and more importantly than that, their souls for his dark master. In the end, there was one Austrian whom escaped his fury and had his rifle in hand. Henrich prepared to end him like the others but the power escaped him. The dark courtesan laughed as death fell upon Henrich and took the wizard's soul as his own to harvest souls.

And so has death been for Henrich, as he prepares to unfold his plan to dispose of the Duke Arrios whom enslaved him, and then to find a way to escape Hell to rejoin his family.

Name: Arrios
Height: 7' (7'8" with horns)
Weight: 300 lbs
Skin Color: Red
Hair Color: Bald
Eye Color: None (Dancing flames can be seen in place of his iris's)
Tattoos/Markings: Arrios's body is covered from head to toe in Black demonic runes, tattoed on his red skin.
Horns: Curled, ram like horns that sweep back from his forehead and end in sharp, twisted points behind him
Tail: None *
Wings: None *
(* Arrios can manifest ectoplasmic wings made up of smoke and shadow when he requires them)
Miscellaneous: Like all demons of any considerable power, his body is morphic and can be altered at a whim, this description is how he chooses to look for the majority of the time.

His fingers and toes end in razor sharp talons, black and shiny, like obsidian. Likewise, his teeth are also black, and while appearing in shape similar to a human’s teeth, they are also razor sharp.

Unlike many demons, he has neither tail nor wings. However when he so chooses a set of black ectoplasmic wings materialize behind him made up of shadow and smoke. They appear to be real, but are as insubstantial as the smoke and shadow that form them and refuse to reflect back any light, giving them an almost two dimensional quality.

Physically Arrios does not cut the most muscular figure, appearing more on the lean side, however when in fits of rage or passion, muscles have been known to ripple beneath the surface of his skin, as if he were hiding his strength to all except when he is in the grip of one anger or lust.

His standard outfit is a black breastplate who’s construction he refuses to divulge. Rumor is that the breastplate is the same celestial breastplate he wore as an angel, but corrupted and blackened, like he. Besides the breastplate he usually wears little more than a loincloth, or kilt made from a cured, blackened leather that looks suspiciously like it may have come from humans and not animals. He also has been known to wear either leather bracers on his wrists matching the kilt or loincloth or black metallic ones that match his breastplate.

Cold and often calculating, his moods swing wildly from almost morose and introspective to manic and extrovertiative.

Is there a particular time on Earth that links to Hell? The demons seem very Mideval, but then demons always are traditionalists. Basically, I don't want to make a character (or use a character voice) that's too modern and ruin the mood.

I don't know about this time, but last time, the physical earth was in modern times. A couple people poked around up there, and one person had the ability to turn his hands into weapons, guns included. Plus Heinrich died in the mideival ages, and had been around for a while. Though much of Hell was very much darkages milieu.

Don't know about this time, however...

On another note, I'm thinking of starting Krond off as having been "on the job" for his new position for a little bit at the start, so I'm not retreading that particular bit of ground again.

Quite right. This isn't a period piece, yet it is populated by characters from all periods. One of the NPCs I threw in hailed from the Assyrian Empire. Others were from the Renaissance. Others predated Creation. It's your Hell to make...

The Gates of Hell have opened!

Before we begin, I'll need each of you to PM me with your statistics. This information is confidential. Make sure and read over the rules in the IC thread before you choose your stats!

I also need to know what title and what circle each of you want to begin with. For those that have already included that information, I'll be updating the Hierarchy list today.

Let the games begin

I just saw this! I hope I can still join back up?

Name: Morgran (Princess of the Sixth Circle)
Height: 5'10
Weight: 135 lbs
Hair Color: A very vibrant red, reaches down to the small of her back.
Eye Color: A grey, almost silver, color.
Tattoos/Markings: None yet.
Piercings: Navel, nipples, and tongue.
Horns: Long, curved, ram-like horns sprouting from her temples.
Tail: None.
Wings: None.
Miscellaneous: Morgran dresses to inspire fear. Her outfits are usually made of silk, brocade, and leather. Her arms are covered in leather straps and her dresses are extravagantly detailed. The trim and filigree are crafted from gold and silver. But she does protect herself, wearing armored gauntlets, a breastplate/corset, mask (soulstone in forehead of mask), and the shins of her boots are forged from the souls and the skeletons of demonic servitors into glistening obsidian and ivory armor. This armor proves to be a stark contrast from the richly crafted garb she wears. As for her abilities, Morgran is an extremely powerful sorceress. A practitioner of the goetic and hermetic arts as well as a great deal of knowledge in the art of devouring souls, which is the cause for her rather impressive lifespan.

You're most welcome to join us again, Morgran!

Okay, sovereigns... as you know, you are entirely in control of the appearance of your Circle. You can mold and create and re-create the environment there any time you want.

It will help the others writing about events in your circle if you write up a description of it and post it here in the OOC thread. This will be added to the Hierarchy list in the introduction post of the IC thread. This is a convenient place for everyone to go to find descriptions of characters and places.

You will also need to provide a name for your Circle. For example, Annalyra used Avernus and Morgran used The Supernal Hells in our last venture.

If there's anyone out there that you guys think would do well in this milieu, please invite them to join us!

I have stats from Krond and Annalyra.

I still need them from Henrich, Morgran, Jezebel, and Arrios.

Arrios and Henrich, where are you two fitting in the hierarchy?

Jezebel, what position and Circle did you want to take up?

Well, I have a plot idea considering how you've started us off, as I told you in my recent PM.

Alrighty, the Prince/Princess of the Second Circle just died in this recent battle thingy that has shaken up Hell and has started the new push for power. Well, Henrich's goal is to stunt Arrios and undo him. Arrios' goal is for power. So Henrich and Arrios are going to end up in a battle for the Second Circle.

I already have a strategy all planned out. *strokes his chin* This could prove interesting.

*eyes the board* Very interesting indeed....

The Sixth Circle of Hell - The Supernal Hells

( Yeah, basically I'm just keeping with the same circle and same Sovereign. :) )

The Supernal Hells are the realm of Morgran, the Witch 'Queen' of the Sixth Circle. It does not seem to be a hell, at least not at first. It is a large city, based largely on Roman or Greecian city states. The sky is ink black however, empty except for the large silvery bright sun overhead. The streets are devoid of life and all of this to a mortal creates the feeling of eternal loneliness. But this place is more a lure then anything else, for Morgran has allowed her minions to whisper to foolish Summoners that their realm is one of untapped magical knowledge. That the Witch Queen Morgran keeps an almost limitless number of magical texts.

But this is true, Morgran has collected millions upon millions of occult and sorcererous tomes which she keeps stored within these buildings. And while they are immaculate and clean, the whole place feels impersonal on many levels. It's inhabitants are hidden, most of which stay within the Watchtower of Souls, Morgran's abode. It stands in the middle of the Sixth Circle's realm, a tower made of obsidian and bone. The black stone holds crimson reflections of those who come to this realm for their punishment. Their screams echo throughout the city as their afterimages, racked in pain, appear along the expanse of the tower. At the very top of this tower sits a solitary throne, where the Witch Queen sits, surrounded by her enslaved sorcerers lured by honeyed whispers.

Such is the price of pride.

In writing your backstories, you have a lot of latitude. However, we all share this common bit of history:
Just over twenty years ago, Hell witnessed its greatest civil war. In the aftermath of that war, 'The Sundering', much of Hell's hierarchy is in disorder. Princes and Kings have been dethroned, their principalities reduced to ash and memory.

The old orders of Hell are no more. In the Sundering, Beelzebub, lord of Limbo and Lucifer's oldest ally from the Fall, had been crushed by Belial, the king of Tartarus. In the aftermath of that battle, Belial was in turn defeated by Astaroth, master of Gahenna; but not before Belial dealt him a mortal wound.

As Hell is slowly rebuilt and restructured, much opportunity exists for those strong and quick enough to seize it.

Just keep this in mind when you're detailing what has come before.

I've added this to the Intro Post as well.
