For three weeks, i have been looking forward to my own private BDSM "training camp" with my Protector, D. I was supposed to leave today for three days of toys and play and experiencing every wild wish i ever had.

I also have been playing beat the clock with one of my show cats who was due to have kittens this week...and guess what?

She's holding onto these kits like they are velcro'd inside. Nothing to do but wait out mother nature, as i'm not one to meddle unless it's life threatening.

So my long awaited playtime has fallen by the wayside.. and i am mad, frustrated, resentful, disappointed and heartbroken.

He has been the perfect Gentleman and insisted that Momcat had a higher priority and we would try again.

Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn.

I can tell you right now, I'd be pretty freaking depressed about all this if I were you.

*HUGS*

Sorry to hear it.

Isn't that over $100?

Well along with the 4 pound bag of prescription food (19.39), the vet visit (36.00) itself, flea comb (6.51) and prenisone shot (19.75), waste disposal (2.95) and Advantage for three month, three cats, (107.90) it was $204.56! Gak! So yesssss. *grr*

Never let it be said I don't pay for my pussies!

The turtles are MUCH cheeper. For one thing I so far, haven't had to take them to the vet.

When all the worlds against me, and I'm feeling crushed and beat - I hold this cherished knowledge - fleas think I'm sweet.

Ok - the fleas. For you - take vitaim B12 - every day or it won't work. For them, 'advantage' from the doctors does work. I know cause the vet put it on our kittens and the enxt day all the fleas were gone.

For the carpet, spray eucalyptus oil on your carpet and couch and things like that. It won't kill them, but they dont' like the smell and will vacate your house. At one point we had four cats and 15 kittens (two litters). Nothing I could afford was working on the fleas - then I did that. Haven't had a problem since.

*Puts eucalyptus oil on her list*

Thanks for the helpful hint beautiful Graceanne!

i can see that a remedy like eucalyptus oil would make fleas go away ...
but ...

Do you spray the oil on carpets and furniture and stuff??
That doesn't cause damage to the stuff?

i'm hesitant to try this method because we have wall-to-wall light tan low pile shag carpets in every room except the two bathrooms and the kitchen. Gotta worry that an oil residue on a light colored rug or sofa etc .. will act as a magnet for dirt and cause stains etc.

Has anyone used this on light colored rugs??

There will be another day and another time. What did you expect to happen? I guess you could have sat there by the mother cat and preached support "come on, Momcat, momma's got an appointment and you really need tp push those babies out...and fast. Come on, sweetie, I know you can do it. Do it for your momma. Come on, sweetie, PLEASE!"

Maybe the Momcat knows something you don't.

But, I do understand your complaint, and I"m not making light of your situation. Things happen in their own time. Don't you just hate it when people tell you that?

Well, you can vacuum every day, with a strong beater bar type vacuum, and hope you break the flea's cycle. But it sounds like you have a lot of carpet, and that isn't a sure fire remedy. But, if you are thourough, it might help

just in case anybody doesn't know, fleas are very strong. I've noticed that, in my different trial and error methods. Wearing white socks in to a carpeted area will tell you if you have fleas there. But, if you find them, you want to get them, and not just track them into another area of the house where they can start another infestation.

They won't move very far from their origiional location on their own, but they will travel on you and on your pets to other locations. If you can keep the travel of the fleas limited, that helps, too.

But, like I said, they are strong. I have a very good vacuum. I noticed I could sit on my couch, and watch a flea jump up on my white sock. I would turn on the vacuum and put the plain hose right down on the flea.

Soometimes, it would suck him (or her) right up into the vacuum, but sometimes my sock would suck up into the hose, and I thought the flea was sucked up, too, but would be upset to find that flea still holding on to the sock. I could sometimes hold that vacuum right no the sock where the flea was and never would that flea be sucked up. I had to actually scrap him off the sock, braking his hold, so he could be sucked up into the vacuum.

Strong little buggers, they are. So, they mean it when they say vacuum your carpet with a good beater bar vacuum. That will help dislodge them from the carpet fibers and suck them up into the vacuum. But, I have shag carpet and I've noticed that even though I have a very good vacuum, it's difficult to get all of the fleas that way. So, a word to the wize...if you have indoor pets, shag carpet is not your friend.

The dawn dishwashing solution method worked better on a shorter pile carpet I have in a back room, but I know the reason it didn't work so well on my shag was because of the thick, deep pile of the shag. Plain and simple...thick carpet is a better breading ground for fleas than the shorter pile carpets.

As I just explained in a PM to DVS the way we did it was we had a rainbow vacuum cleaner, and I'd put eucalpytus oil in the water. (Just a couple drops - maybe a tsp) then vacuum. I don't know if it killed them or if they left. I just know it worked. As I said we had four cats (two were mine, two were my roommates) and 15 kittens. Our house was CRAWLING with fleas. If you stood still they'd climb from the carpet onto you, and vacuuming didn't help that much, cause they were still all over the cats who were EVERYWHERE. The cats still had fleas, but they weren't all over everything else.

Ok, critter folk...the breeder is gonna let you in on her lil secret...

www.revivalanimal.com

and it also doubles as an excellent BDSM supply site :D

you can get all your supplies for MUCH less than your vet charges you.. i also give my own animal vaccines...cheaper that way too.. although some states don't allow you to give your pets their rabies vaccinations.

Frontline works great for fleas and one drop n each ear kills ear mites. Advantage works too but not on mites... dunno why it didn't for you DVS. Let me point out that advantage and frontline are the same formulation for dogs and cats, so i buy the largest dog size and parcel it out using a syringe without a needle..1 cc per 10 lbs body weight of animal. 1- 100 lb dog vial treats 10- 10 lb cats :D

The borax trick works like a charm, but my experience is that you DON'T vacuum it up right away.. use a new corn broom and brush the borax deep into the carpet, though the backing and into the padding below...it works to kill fleas by dessicating or dehydrating their bodies.. fleas are 70% water and don't have a solid exoskelaton. You will vacuum up all the borax over time, but you just put more down again...and work it into the carpet again...about every six months.

Now, while you are at the revival site, check out needles, hemostats, surgical scissors, wrapping tapes, disposable cauteries, leashes, collars, crates, cages, harnesses, whatever else your kinky mind desires :D

WOW, thanks for the great info. I don't have a flea problem "right now" but we all know that it can become a problem very quickly. God, that gives me goose bumps, just saying that.

As for the info on the large dog size purchase. That will help with my multiple cat situation. And as to the Advantage purchase, I don't know what the situation was, but it just didn't work. If I'm correct, there is an OTC version of it, just like with Frontline. I got the Advantage over the Internet, and I actually thought it was old or something. But, the lot number was not old, so I was confused. In the past I had always purchased the vet version of Advantage (when I had money) and within 24 hours, my problem was gone. So, I was very confused that it didn't work.

I have a friend in California that I told this to, and he agreed with me. Advantage didn't work for him, either. He mentioned the OTC version, too. I'm confident that any vet formulation would work, or it just wouldn't be something a vet would want to be associdated with.

I did get the Frontline Plus OTC package and it did work. It was about $65 for a six month supply for one cat. That wasn't too bad, but still more than I wanted to spend on a damn bug infestation.

I'm curious, if someone knows...is there suppose to be any difference in the OTC version PACKAGE? I couldn't see anywhere on there that it was less potent than the vet version and I thought it should have some sort of notation on it. I'm sure it was a lesser amount of the active chemical, but still think there should be something that mentioned it. Some people would think they are both the same, and in the case of the Advantage product, that could be bad for ver business.

It's strange, that when I had enough money to spend on things like this, fleas were never a problem. But, when you find yourself with less than enough money, the short cuts that are out there, just don't always work.

The foggers, are what I mostly mean. Those things are just plain usless, if you ask me. There was a time when that was all I needed when I wanted to spray for spiders and roaches at beginning of winter, when they all want to come in out of the cold.

I'm sorry, but maybe the bugs have developed an amunity to those things or something...I'm going on record for saying they just don't work. Lived in the same house, for the last 24 years, and foggers nor fumigators seem to do shit.

Thanks again, nusubgurl], for the info and web site.

So, like, a thousand dollars worth of toys got stolen off of the job that K's working yesterday. Some his, some his moms. Whoever it was knew what they were doing, cause they got all the stuff that's actualy worth money. Oddly enough K's employee, Ken - none of his stuff got stolen. Things that make you go hm.

Plus I got a thing from the social security office concerning my hearing with them. So I called my lawyer to find out what was up. She already mailed one of those in to them. Evidently they lost it, so she's mailing them another one. Stupid freaken govt.

Hey.. thanks a lot. I've, we've, the children have... this large mutt. He's a humane society rescue so we aren't sure just what he is. He points at stuff, so maybe some springer spaniel. He likes to herd stuff, so maybe a bit border collie (based on coloring) and he loves to pull and is huge with super long fluffy fur so we speculate possibly some husky is in his heritage.

I've been looking for a place to find some good stuff. Dh wants to make him into a hunting dog for when he and dear son go off on pheasant hunting expeditions. Fun, huh? There's a lot of training to do... although the dog will do anything for MaryJane peanut butter toffees.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to teach a dog to not fear the sound of the gun?

I'd suggest your hubby take him with them when they sight in their rifles. That and a sturdy rope. Tie him to the bumper of your car so he can't get away. After a while he'll learn that it's just a loud noise and it won't hurt him.

I hate days like this. I feel irritated, fat, ugly, underappreciated, pointless, and empty.

Maybe I won't even go to church tomorrow - er today.
If God wants me there, he can get my ass up.
I set my alarm, that's as far as I'm willing to go.

I have arthritis in my knees, so I know how it feels, to some extent. Do you use cold or hot for them? I've read things that espouse both - cold takes down swelling, hot eases the tissue.

Thanks for the hugs, guys. I feel a little better now, though I didn't make it to church.

Grrr why do all the bills have to come in at once  We've just paid a big power bill and now the car registration is due, plus it needs work done on it (suspension, oil leak and tune up). Another couple of months the insurance is due. Disability and carer pensions don't go far enough :(

I just fell, AGAIN. I'm just gonna have to rack up more doctor bills and go see the stupid rheumetologist. I either need something to help with my arthritis, or I need a cane. I twisted my knee this time, and my toe is throbbing. I don't think it's broken, but it still hurts.

i have someone new ready to move into my asshole ex-roommate's room, but the original fuck won't show up to drag his stuff away. i haven't seen him in days, and he still owes me about $400, and i don't feel like doing his packing for him.

Post his stuff on freecycle. People will come and get the stuff themselves.

And congrats on the new roommate - good luck. *hugs*

Watch out. That might not be legal. I'd check with some housing authority or maybe a lawyer about what to do with his stuff. And, you might need to take him to small claims court to get your $400. Or, just decide that's a good price to pay for being rid of him.

Do NOT sell, or dispose of his stuff by any method. Doing so, may give him good grounds to sue you in small claims court for the value of the stuff.

Is the stuff worth much?
Is it worth at least $400 ??
Is the $400 owed in relation to rent, or other expenses which he incurred while living there with you??

If so, it may be worth holding on to ... to use as a trade & i wouldn't give him his shit, unless it's in exchange for the $400 he owes.

That way:

1. You stand a better chance of getting your $400 back ... plus getting him to get off his ass and move his shit OUT.

&

2. You have grounds for counterclaim of $400 if he decides to take you to small claims court to file for the return of, or $$$ compensation for his stuff.

i'd pack that shit of his into cardboard boxes (lawn/trash bags work well if you don't feel like having to run about in search of boxes), and put it aside for safe keeping.

And, i wouldn't just tell him to cough up the $400 and retrieve his shit, by word of mouth alone. Put it in writing. Deliver it by USPS ... and use the 'deliver by signed reciept' ... it may cost a buck or two .. but may prove to be very useful in making your case, if you do end up in court.

Hell, if you have his email address ... notify him by email TOO (make certain you have 'full headers' set up for your email)... and use the 'return receipt' option for mail when you do. Then, make a hard copy of the email that you sent.

Whenever you even THINK you may end up in court .... best action you can take is to "DOCUMENT. DOCUMENT. DOCUMENT.".
