Thank you to all our Veterans here, out there, & beyond

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)

Not long ago, I saw an elderly man at a restaurant with a middle aged woman and a little girl. I assume it was great-granddad with his granddaughter and her daughter. Anyway, he was wearing a bright red hat with gold letters that spelled out, "USMC." I walked over to him and said, "Excuse me, Sir, but my father served with the 2nd Marines in the Pacific. Were you there with him?"

He looked stunned, and frankly, looked a little scared of what I might say to him. "Yes, I was in the Pacific with the 2nd." I stood up, saluted, and said, "Thank you for helping preserve my way of life."

I thought he was going to cry as he smiled at me and quietly said, "You're welcome"

Thank a vet today for your freedom.

Thanks sticky. Good job. Unfortunately the WWII vets are fading away. My dad and uncle both served in the European theater and both have passed on. The Korean vets are aging. I served in the Air Force during the "cold war" and Vietnam and none of us are getting any younger. The guys who served in Gulf War 1 are getting older and now the kids who are still serving and sacrificing in Iraq and Afganistan. It seems to be a never ending progression of service and sacrifice. Be it right or wrong doesn't much matter, the servicemen and women who do what is required of them is what is important and we all owe them thanks.

Thank you, pm.
You stated the sentiment - so eloquently....i feel the same.

To all...
thank you from my heart.xo

i want to thanks all veterants.
i am french and i know the price that men from all nations gave in stupid wars.
My grand father was an american GI of ww2, and a grand grand father an english solider of ww1.
Thanks to all of thoses who gave their lives.
Today 11 november is the day of the first world war, may they all rest in peace and never be forgotten.

I'm thankful my dad served between wars- way too young for WWII and too old for Vietnam. Thank you to the veterans who weren't quite so lucky (by my point of view) and had to serve during much rougher times.

I miss the paper poppy sales these days. Our city was down to one WWI vet who spent all year making them for veterans to sell. He must ge gone now since it has been a few years since I've seen any vets outside of stores selling their poppies.

I salute all of you!

Those of you who put your lives on the line to ensure other toe the line.

Thank-you today & every day.

poppys are still big here - everyone has them for that two week period - most of the rememberance services take place this sunday - It is sad to see that the old boys who walk in line usualy just with a blazer and their medals are getting frailer and fewer -

the 20th century was a rough old time for the world - there are estmates and estimtes - but upwards of 150 million people are thought to have died through war or its effects in the 20th century - lets hope that the 21st brings better news - though I doubt it -

My real dad died in Vietnam, I barely remember him. I do remember the effect left on my grandparents and my mom. I am proud of him.

My Father was in WW2...In the China/Burma/India triangle...all over the pacific.

To all of the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy our freedom, I say THANK YOU
