I’m curious what people define as “kinky”, and if you’re willing to share, what your gender identity, orientation, background are? No judgement, I just have some hypotheses. :) Don’t lie, this is Serious Academic Research lol

Kinky is in the eye of the beholder.
Agree but in the interest of conversation: what does it mean to be kinky? Outside of what your preconceived notions of sex are? Outside of “the norm”? Does the term even mean anything? I’m probably overthinking this lol

Interesting inquiry. I doubt a reliable, agreed-upon bright line can be discerned or established, but I think @Flowerbox has it as precise as possible.

That said, I offer two tests for determining "kinky" versus merely "edgy." Both rely upon women to read out the result, because women are sexual gatekeepers, whether by nature or nurture.

"Kinky" is where there is a pause between the hearing and the responding. "Edgy?" She comes right back at you, with curiosity or enthusiasm.

"Kinky" is where she simply blushes. "Edgy" is where she does that "one hand with four fingers bunched together, thumb sticking out at a right angle, briefly fanning herself for dramatic effects."

(And BTW, that fanning thing makes me want her even more.)

There's a ton of stuff which I've done which didn't/doesn't seem kinky to me but would really raise the eyebrows of other people I know.

As far as stuff I'm into which I actually recognize as kinky? Spanking and rope bondage.

I think "kinky" could be almost anything which "someone is into it and someone else isn't and that's OK".

I'm a married straight-passing* non-monogamous queer of Generation X age.

* I'm not closeted, it just doesn't come up and people don't have reasons to perceive me or my family as queer most of the time. But I don't hide it or censor myself.
