Jaguar - Another Iconic Brand Consigned to the Dustheap of Woke Fuckups

You’re wrong about title, but that’s okay… you tend to type as if you know more than you actually know.

Maybe your sgt noshirt’s cousin?

cooling is rarely a problem in british columbia or england, depends where you live.

In BC, radiators are optional - permanent climatic water cooling is available......you need really good wipers tho

What a gorgeous collection of photos - and I love that British racing green!

I looked up Bristol cars and unfortunately I cannot use them for my story - it's set in 1938/39 Shanghai, and Bristol wasn't founded until 1945, so I shall settle on Rolls Royce, Chinese tend to go for a little ostentation, understatement is not their thing so a Bentley or Daimler wouldn't really fit unless they were really old money Chinese, and that didn't exist in Shanghai in the 30's. It was all the Nouveaux Riche

The ad is CLEAR that it doesn't come with a title.

The vehicle does not have a title ...

Without legal title, you will NOT get insurance. Getting insurance with a salvage title is getting difficult to do, but without any title, you're on your own.

Deusenberg. They were popular with movie stars and the neuvo riche. Company went under in 1938 so 1935 would be within the viable time period.

BTW, dual cowls were designed to keep the passengers out of the weather as much as possible, given the shortfalls of window/door sealing at the time. It would be fitting to have that in your story. Rolls came with them too.

Can't a person get a custom made radiator that'll (mostly) fit?

It's what I'd do but vertical flow doesn't cool as well as cross flow so you're going to need a bit of room for the side tanks. Cross flow radiators are wider but not as tall so you could add height to compensate for any heat exchange loss from it being narrower than a modern one.

You can set it back and duct to it but if the engine is in the way, you can't do that. Your only other options are to live with inadequate cooling or do a little cosmetic surgery on the engine bay panels.

This just in: you’re still wrong.

Lol

I'm looking for one that would be chauffeur-driven with a lot of room in the back seat, and preferably hard-top - it's the image as much as anything. Cheng Daqi is a very successful businessman, so it would be the sort of display that would impress the British, who were probably the most powerful group financially in Shanghai - the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp was based there, so a Rolls fits, and it's well known enough that it would display wealth without being too flamboyant.

I was really thinking something like this - where you can see that partition inside separating the driver up front from the passengers in the rear. It's got a love;y back passenger seat with two fold down jump seats as well.

Now this one looks like the sort of car Big-Eared Du, the ruler of the criminal underworld of Shanghai, would drive around in (Big-Eared Du was the dude that bankrolled Chiang Kai-shek, who was affiliated with the Green Gang, Big-Eared Du's Triad).

Rolls, Packard and Duesenberg all had huge closed cars with big engines and hefty fuel thirst. The 12-banger Packard got about 6 MPG.

If your character wants to impress the Brits, then I think you're right in giving them the Rolls of their choice.

I'm figuring that there/their/they're is going to be some front-end surgery in the engine compartment anyway. To me, that is no sacrilege.

Going to have to intake from the bottom as well as through the grill too.

The Rolls would be stuffy and not at all what an up and coming newly moneyed man would want to be driven around in. First impressions are fleeting yet lasting.

I can say that I wanna read this story!

Yep. I was also wondering about a second cooling core somewhere else. I haven't had my nose under the hood/bonnet of one of those things in a whole bunch of years.

I'm curious about reading it, too. I think she does nice work.

Purrs. Working to finish it off and publish it as an ebook duo with "Never Ending Love" in early 2025. I'll let you know - I am soooooo bad at hitting deadlines. There's a third one as well. "Eating Ice Cream" but that's a bit further out.

The whole Rolls Royce thing is because Cheng Daqi seduces Chao-Xing in the back seat of his Rolls Royce on a stormy winters night - I needed a big back seat and a separate passenger's compartment and those Rolls limo's fit the required need.

Anyhow, hardly Politics Board stuff, but I do get wrapped up in my writing. Forgive me.

Forgiveness is not required, Young Lady. More like . . . admiration.

I need to become more enmeshed in mine . . . .

I think "over the top" was putting the air scoop on the front, but there was no room under the airfoil...

From laughter.....we are literally entertained by watching lefties self destruct.
The MAGA forums continue to demonstrate a need to feel validated in everything they believe and victimhood in everything they don't get that validation.

Winning an election hasn't changed that tempermanent

I'm in the middle (well at the 2/3rd's point) in the 2nd full novel of an urban fantasy trilogy. I need to set myself down and decide if I'm going to publish them one at a time or as a trio.

I'm hoping the woke infestation in the publishing industry is fading as fast as "Le Resistance" has done on the political arena.

Chloe

On this board you write concisely and precisely, it must be exciting to have a third gift to be entertaining. How many bows have a third string? Not many. But your attention to details deserves recognition. Good Luck.

Great name for a nom de plume.

Tzang means an open sheet of paper.

Reminds me of Kysa Braswell, who was a guy named zane.

Anyway, yeah, rolls royces in 1937 shanghai is fantasy, will work. HK more likely tho. :)
